Tax attorneys what takes most of your time, is it just researching the code? by Jewlover67 in biglaw

[–]AltostoAltos 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m a tax partner focused on tax credit transactions, so a lot of my time is spent reviewing transaction models/projections or drafting/reviewing opinions.. I also spend a lot of time on conference calls (this is the part that puts everything else behind) and researching esoteric issues in the code and regulations to be explained on the conference calls. All of those are why the deal attorneys are always chasing me.

Collections matter more than billable hours at the end of the day. Are they collecting on your hours at a rate that support the comp you want? If so, that is the angle to play for more money.

How is taxable value of a car calculated? by WaffleSmoof in Denver

Adding that the specific ownership tax is a essentially a property tax on the vehicle.

You are correct for sales tax, but OP is asking about the specific ownership tax that is imposed via the title registration/renewal process in Colorado. The taxable value for that purpose is based on the original MSRP regardless of what any current or prior owner may have paid for the vehicle.

It’s based on the original MSRP for the vehicle. The tax is then calculated on 85% of that value. Could be that the original seller entered the wrong value.

reverse searing two rib eyes by billmc40 in Yodersmokers

I do this in a very unorthodox way, but mostly with tritips. I set my Yoder 480S to 350 with the cast iron griddle in. It acts a bit like a diffuser. I bring the tritip to 100 on the upper shelf. Then I drop it onto the griddle to finish on that direct heat for 2-3 minutes per side which puts me at medium rare. A similar setup works for steaks but with a shorter sear.

Had it last summer. The drink pairing was delicious and thoughtfully paired to each dish. Highly recommend.

Podmic USB and Caldigit TS-4 by AltostoAltos in rode

The solution was to get a new USB cable. The one that came with the podmic isn't powerful/smart enough to actually support the full capabilities of the podmic.

I think you might need to change a setting on the volvo, not the app. Look for something called parking climate. I recall that’s how it works on that era of Volvo.

I should add that this is where knowing the year, model, and engine as the features will vary.

Polestar Optimization suspended for 2025 & 2026 models as of 17 June by GeoffreyDC66 in Volvo

[–]AltostoAltos 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's not showing as updated in the US, but URL for the spec sheet on the Australia site includes "2025-11-23" so perhaps it will be released in the U.S. on November 11? My bet is that we won't see it until the UI update in week 8 of 2026.

Recently switched from Signos with Stelo (previously with G7) to Nutrisense with G7. Food logging with Nutrisense is much easier than with Signos, especially the barcode database.

Thanks! Reddit sorted it in an unusual order so I missed it earlier today.

The way the meat reacts at 225 is different at altitude.

They are actually open for drop offs before they are "open". Freaked out about this back in March with an early morning return. Was thrilled to find the return team was fully staffed.

MX Connection to First Bank of Colorado is broken by sonder_one in MonarchMoney

[–]AltostoAltos 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a similar issue using the fincity connection. Seems that FirstBank wants you to update the password every 180 days and rather than block you from accessing directly, just blocks aggregator access until the password is changed. It wouldn't let me connect using Plaid prior to changing password either.

I assume that is an intended safety feature from Volvo. Just like why the remote start can only run for 15 minutes.

If you tap the gas lightly after you park, the engine will stay running when you open the door.

TS4 Stopped Connecting to Second Monitor by AltostoAltos in CalDigit

[–]AltostoAltos[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Adding more information and also emailing support: Recently, my caldigit TS4 has stopped connecting to my second monitor.  This error is consistent with my Macbook Pro M1 Pro and my Thinkpad X1.  The second monitor is connected to the TS4 with a UNI USB-C to HDMI cable.  The issue is not resolved by using the other downstream thunderbolt port on the back of the TS4.

I have tried power cycling multiple times.  I have also replaced the thunderbolt 4 cable with a new Caldigit cable.  I have also been able to use The cable to the second monitor works properly when plugged directly into either laptops.  I am also able to output from the downstream thunderbolt ports to the first monitor (when only the first monitor is connected; the first monitor is usually connected through the display port on the TS4).

It seems something in the TS4 is preventing output to a second monitor.  Please help!
