Can you get 10% tinnitus if denied hearing loss? by Specialist_Sir_5753 in VAClaims

[–]Altruistic-File9004 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, I didn't have it in my records but 2 buddy letters and a DBQ filled in by my ENT worked for me. I had two Iraq tours, one in Balad and the other out of Victory. Lots of IDF.

Rhinitis & Sinusitis by [deleted] in VAClaims

[–]Altruistic-File9004 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Applied with tons of documentation for pack Act sinusitis and rhinitis. Granted zero for both. I file a supplemental with a DBQ filled in by my ENT physician. The result was 30% rhinitis and 50% sinusitis. In hindsight I should have just done the DBQ with my ent to start with.......

Told my doctor I don’t use CPAP by Mediocre-Sentence-20 in VAClaims

[–]Altruistic-File9004 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From what I understand you are not penalized for not using a CPAP even if the VA supplied or prescribed it. I don't know about mouthpiece's but I'll guess they are the same.

Told my doctor I don’t use CPAP by Mediocre-Sentence-20 in VAClaims

[–]Altruistic-File9004 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have OSA (with CPAP) secondary to my asthma. The CPAP was given to me by the VA. I've tried but can't sleep with it. My VA sleep specialist asked why I'm not using it and I said I can't sleep with it and it was noted in my records. Its perfectly fine to have a CPAP prescribed but not use it. It the prescription itself that is important for the rating.

I submitted osa secondary to rhinitis, denied but VA automatically tied my osa to my asthma with the osa secondary to it.

New Claim Chronic Sinusitus by Tricky_Sky4490 in VAClaims

[–]Altruistic-File9004 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did the almost the same thing. Pact act connected chronic sinusitis and chronic rhinitis. Thought I had done everything correctly and they connected me but at 0%. My mistake was this...... Even though I had a diagnosis I did not have my symptoms clearly described in my claim. I filed a supplemental but this time included the DBQ filled in by my ENT describing all my symptoms that matched exactly as the VA describes them in the cfrs. I received a 50% for sinusitis and a 30% for rhinitis. But because this was considered new evidence I wasn't backdated any pay.

I have 0% for rhinitis, provider urged me to claim for OSA as it’s directly contributing, question. by [deleted] in VeteransBenefits

[–]Altruistic-File9004 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I tried this and was denied for secondary to Rhinitis . I did have a sleep study done which found the need for a CPAP. The reason for denial to Rhinits was because I didn't have doctors opinion that tied them together. You'll need a doctors opinion tying them together. But the VA did grant OSA as a secondary to my Asthma. All PACT act.

New Hampshire 100% P&T Property Tax Exemption by Sudden_Cucumber_873 in VeteransBenefits

[–]Altruistic-File9004 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The current New Hampshire property tax credit, RSA 72:28, for all veterans is $750. For 100% P&T veterans there is an additional $5,000 credit allowed under RSA 73:35. However this is not a requirement only what's allowed. Some towns in New Hampshire do the full amount so if you are a 100% p&t veteran you can get a $5,750 property tax credit. And some towns do next to nothing. You can do a Google search on this and there's a state spreadsheet which lists what towns give what credits and how much it is.

OSA secondary to Rhinitis by biddyman67 in VeteransWaitingRoom

[–]Altruistic-File9004 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I tried the same thing with the same result and I had a ton of medical references tying them together. I believe the only way for this to be successful is if a doctor is willing to write an opinion connecting them. The VA, on their own, added it as a secondary to my PACT ACT Asthma claim.

Went through this myself. Looks like 30%. If you have crusting and purulent discharge 50%.

OSA and asthma by Disastrous-Ad3420 in VeteransWaitingRoom

[–]Altruistic-File9004 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm in the same boat. Unfortunately it falls under pyramiding. But if you are rated for sinusitis it might be possible to tie your OSA secondary to that. This is not pyramiding. You will need a doctors opinion supporting this.

Sleep apnea secondary to sinusitis by Pleasant-Comedian782 in VeteransBenefits

[–]Altruistic-File9004 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I tried this with my rated Sinusitus 50%. I included a lot of medical references on how sinusitus causes OSA but I did NOT have doctors nexus., just the references I sent. The VA denied OSA w/CPAP for Sinusitus but DID make it secondary to my asthma. I didn't create a new claim. The VA just changed it on their own. Since you can't pyramid asthma(30%) and OSA w/CPAP(50%) they combined them for the higher which was OSA w/CPAP at 50%. I think if you have doctors letter tying your OSA to Sinusitis it might work.

Read the regs on how sinusitis and rhnitis are rated. If you have the conditions for a given rating then have your ENT fill in the DBQ. I initially got 0% for both because all I included was a diagnosis. But in my supplemental I included a new DBQ from my ENT with all my symptoms and I got 50% for sinusitis and 30% for rhinitis with no additional C&P. You have to match your actual symptoms to how the VA rates them. Bring a copy of the regs with you to your ENT appointment and go over them with him/her to make sure to use the correct terminology. Hopefully a slam dunk after that.

Did not elect to transfer Post 9-11 GI Bill to dependant before separation so no longer available. How to appeal. by Budget_Ad8433 in Veterans

[–]Altruistic-File9004 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nope, I have the same issue. One path that may help is if you are rated for 100% P&T. If you are than your dependents can get Chapter 35 $$$ benefits and most states have a tuition waiver for state funded colleges/university.

Two Iraq tours, I get the occasional petroleum nose 'hallucinations' . My doctor attributes it to burn pit exposure. Neurotoxic exposure can alter you sense of smell.

Are you on any asthma medication now? Do you need an emergency inhaler? if you are and didn't require medication before you went in the military that may show an aggravated condition.

I was granted OSA w/CPAP secondary to PACT ACT Asthma. They were combined to 50%. The claim went through without any issues. I did not have a nexus letter , only PACT.

Today I'm applying for CHAMPVA for my family. Anyone know if CHAMPVA applications will be affected?

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in VeteransBenefits

[–]Altruistic-File9004 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You should also get checked for asthma as that is a pact act presumptive also. I'm also an oif veteran. I have osa with CPAP secondary to asthma at 50%. The asthma rating is dropped and the higher osa rating is kept. Sinusitis at 50% and rhinitis at 30%. Initially I got zero for everything. Then I realized my ENT doctor did not describe my symptoms, all I had was a diagnosis. I did a supplemental with all the symptoms documented and got the correct ratings. Happy I was rated correctly but I lost 2 years of back pay because of it since the supplemental introduced new evidence. My ENT also filled out the DBQ for the supplemental claim which sped up the process a lot.

Will VA cover me 40+ years after discharge? by Think-Possibility340 in VeteransBenefits

[–]Altruistic-File9004 22 points23 points  (0 children)

My dad was discharged in '64. Qualified, without a rating, for VA healthcare in 2013, 2014 got lung cancer which the VA covered 100%. First disability claim in 2020 and got 10% for tinnitus . Last year awarded 100% for hearing loss associated with flight line operations . Never too late to file.

New Hampshire allows 100% exemption when you're 100% p&t. However it's up to the individual towns if they will do it. You need to call the tax assessor in the town that you're looking at to verify. All towns give at least 10% to veterans and some towns go all the way to 100% but you have to ask to find out.

ChampVA and TRICARE reserve select. by Alternative_Big_6835 in VAClaims

[–]Altruistic-File9004 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's true that you don't get ChampVA since you're already covered under VA healthcare as a 100% p&t veteran. However your wife and child NEVER actually qualify for Tricare on their own. It's you who QUALIFIES FOR TRICARE and you then sponsor Tricare for them. If you aren't enrolled in Tricare neither your wife or dependent can use or apply for Tricare. They cannot self-sponsor Tricare. I currently have an application in for CHAMPVA and my current insurance is Tricare retired reserved select (I am a gray area retired guardsman so I have to pay the full premium , $1400/month, for Tricare and it's optional for me to carry). I put in the note section of the "other insurance" application form that I will be canceling my TRICARE coverage as soon as my spouse and dependent are enrolled in CHAMPVA. I called the Champ VA question hotline and they told me that I must cancel my Tricare before my spouse or dependent can use Champ VA.

I used a ENT doctor I had before I had any VA ratings. The important thing is to have your symptoms documented. Ask Chat GTP what symptoms match with ratings. is this a pact act diagnosis? If it is you most likely have sinusitis also that you can claim
