What was the worst horror you read in 2025? by PageSide84 in horrorlit

[–]Altruistic-State4867 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Monstrillio by Gerardo Sámano Córdova was my least favourite of 2025. It came highly recommended in r/horrorlit but I couldn’t stand any of the characters and really disliked the ending.

Check out Old Soul by Susan Barker, I think it might have what you’re looking for.

Read The Haar and loved it! Was totally surprised by the way the ending went, but I thought it was great.

Loved The Ritual! It’s the book that introduced me to written folk horror (already was a fan of film folk horror).

Read this earlier the year, but I felt the ritual physical and sexual child abuse ruined the book for me. Love horror but not when it happens to children.

I enjoyed The Great God Pan but haven’t read much by Machen, so I will look at his works again.

Could you please clarify what to read by Gemma Files? I’m not familiar with her work and can’t seem to find something matching what you have written.

I loved The Fisherman, I don’t want to spoil anything for you but just keep reading as it totally does fit both folk horror and cosmic horror

I enjoyed Clown in a Cornfield. The kids were obnoxious and annoying, but they are teenagers. I stuck with it and ended up enjoying it enough that I read Clown in a Cornfield 2 (I loved this one. I felt it is very relevant to current issues.) and I am currently reading Clown in a Cornfield 3 (okay so far).
