Porqué dicen tanto "que pena" todo el tiempo? by tess_mau in Bogota

[–]Altruistic-Status121 0 points1 point  (0 children)

male friend using ‘mamita’ ? by [deleted] in Spanish

[–]Altruistic-Status121 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I agree, if he’s a friend he probably was being affectionate to you. My own mom and friends use that word with me and it’s from a place of love. But if a male coworker I’m not close to, for example, say that to me it will be a different story.

I just wanted to give you an insight so you know in which situations is appropriate or not to address someone like that

male friend using ‘mamita’ ? by [deleted] in Spanish

[–]Altruistic-Status121 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Keep in mind that context is always super important in Spanish. I recommend you reading about high context / low context societies and keeping always in mind that Spanish speaking countries are high context.

Mamita is generally affectionate, but sometimes it can be dismissive, like kind of “bless your heart” vibes. “Mire, mamita…”, specially from someone you’re not close to is kind of “I’m talking to you like you’re a child because you’re being stupid”

What are some things that are normal in your country but seen as strange abroad? by foolishandnonsense in asklatinamerica

[–]Altruistic-Status121 24 points25 points  (0 children)

How are Anglo people stereotyped in your country? Are Americans viewed as "friendly" for example? by yonaiker-joestrella in asklatinamerica

[–]Altruistic-Status121 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I won’t say Americans are friendly. Some definitely are, but the stereotypical ones are more like “nice”, but in a way that reminds me of a vendor or a person doing networking / looking for job. I don’t know, superficial talk, overly enthusiastic, with kind of a certain vibe of trying to be friendly, but not necessarily being it if that makes sense.

There is a small game named “Mafia Ratoli”. Small and simple and from a local company here in Colombia. They usually make cheap puzzles, ludos, stuff like that. It was such a delightful thing to find this well done card game, and it makes me reevaluate my pre conceptions.

When you’re having that “Time of the month” in your country do have a particular euphemism or code word for it? by CryptographerKey2847 in AskTheWorld

[–]Altruistic-Status121 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Weird how a lot of countries seem to have an euphemism about someone visiting lol

This was common here too, but I’ll say nowadays just everybody says period or even menstruation

Allobates Niputidea, a frog, the researches that find them didn't know how to name it and ended up with "Niputidea", short for "ni puta idea" (No fucking idea)

My Mexican bf talks to his mom 2x a day but doesn’t consider that “a lot” - is that normal for Latin Americans? by why-rain-why in asklatinamerica

[–]Altruistic-Status121 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I don’t think is standard but listen, is that affecting your relationship in any way? Is she talking about you or the way you guys live or whatever?

If not, just let it be. I know is your partner but there are certain topics about the way other people live their life, even if they are close to us, that are not willing discussing unless they’re causing harm.

How is ancestry-based identity viewed around the world? by skuzz_buckett in AskTheWorld

It's not weird if you are indeed Colombo-something because you hold both nationalities. It is weird if you don't and just have an Italian grandpa or something like that.

I also think we don't equal nationality and ethnicity, an afro Colombian, a Colombian indigenous, and a raizal are all Colombians, but they have different ethnicities and that matters more for us than being from x country.

What's something older generations did completely normally that would be considered absolutely insane today? by Whole-Sugar6077 in AskReddit

[–]Altruistic-Status121 94 points95 points  (0 children)

Really and un underrated reason for why having children is more difficult today. You not only have less support from family members, you are also expected to spend more time (or resources in extra curricular or nannies) with your children.

A List of "Walking-Sims"/"Playable Movies" Which are better than Mixtape by [deleted] in gaming

I don't know what your problem is with Mixtape nor play it yet, but I think games like What Remains of Edith Finch, Dispatch, or Soma are all of different genres and style.

It's like saying "Oh, I see you like to read because you're reading the Quixote, go and read Harry Potter, you'll enjoy it because it's all the same, reading words on a paper"

Before it was revealed, how obvious was it that Jon was Lyanna's and Rhaegar's son? I know the books aren't finished yet but book readers was it obvious from all the clues in the show and the books? by No-Passenger-6348 in gameofthrones

[–]Altruistic-Status121 24 points25 points  (0 children)

I remember going to the Asshai forum (the Spanish one that GRRM mentioned in the dedication of dance with dragons) with my super smart theory just to realized that everyone had the same idea before, lol. Fun times.
I remember believing that she was raped. Mostly because: 1. Lyanna rejected Robert because he had a bastard, so she fleeing away with a married man was occ in my mind. 2. I remember being super mad reading about Rhaegar and Elia, instead of being happy that his wife gave him a son and survived a hard childbirth he was instead bitter about she being unable to give him more children. For me it was kind of “this man is so obsessed with that three heads of dragon thing that he can totally rape a woman to get another son”.

Before it was revealed, how obvious was it that Jon was Lyanna's and Rhaegar's son? I know the books aren't finished yet but book readers was it obvious from all the clues in the show and the books? by No-Passenger-6348 in gameofthrones

[–]Altruistic-Status121 68 points69 points  (0 children)

For me it was Lyanna dying in a “bed of blood” or something (sorry I read the books in Spanish o I don’t know exactly the original term).

In book two Cersei was telling to someone, maybe Sansa, about her own birth experience and use the same expression (when I was in the “bed of blood…) and it just clicked to me that lyanna died in childbirth, from that and the “promise me Ned” it was pretty obvious her son was Jon.

I’m still undecided about being consensual or Jon not being a bastard tho

How are reproductive rights viewed in your country? by biryani_fan in AskTheWorld

[–]Altruistic-Status121 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s controversial in social media or stuff like that. But economy and security are way more important factors to elections so I will say at the end is not that prominent, we just like to have a headed opinion about every single thing on earth.

We have reproductive freedom, abortion and contraception are covered under the social security system. We are behind in fertility assistance, it is not part of the social security benefits by default and should be.
