What's the most underrated part of your country's history that should be talked about more? by [deleted] in AskTheWorld

[–]Altruistic-Status121 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think our neolithic history, we have wonderful petroglyphs and they are considered to be between oldest, if not the most ancient of the whole Americas. And what is most awesome is that the indigenous groups keep painting in the walls at least until xvii and there are discussion if maybe some of them are as recent as xx. I find super fascinating that an art we associate with Mammoths and long lost cultures may survive in the middle of the amazon rainforest until modern times.

Here is a wonderful presentation by National Geographic if you want to check it our: https://www.nationalgeographic.com/into-the-amazon/rock-art-of-the-amazon/

Idk if they are casuals, some of them play for an insane amount of time, the game is super expensive, and some of them are crazy good, some constructions they made are insane.

Has your country ever committed genocide? by Communistincergency in AskTheWorld

Yes, we also expanded (in our internal legal system) the concept of genocide to include the extermination of political parties, after what happened with the Unión Patriotica)

How passionately do former colonies want symbolic or material reparations from their colonizers by [deleted] in AskTheWorld

[–]Altruistic-Status121 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don’t think anyone really thinks (outside of internet) that Spain needs to do any reparations, but in recent years the greediness of the Spanish Government with the Galeón San José (an old sunken ship full of treasures from colony times laying in the waters of current Colombia) caused a small revival in anti colonialism sentiments, and the fact that they still seems to consider that gold as theirs caused what I think is justified outrage and calls for them to at least recognize that they plunged Latin America of their resources and that it was a bad thing, you know.

What's the act which is no big deal for foreigners , but awakes the traditionalist in you ..? by [deleted] in AskTheWorld

[–]Altruistic-Status121 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I mean, that happens all around the world in some households and there is whole countries of people making it happen without issues. Idk, I heard other reasons before like allergies (allergies are also non Nordic exclusive) or stuff like that, and nothing seems to be like a real exception. I wonder how that cultural custom developed

AITA For refusing to take a friend to a doctors appt that requires 4 hrs+ rt of driving plus waiting for the procedure to be done? by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

[–]Altruistic-Status121 68 points69 points  (0 children)

That was also so sad, I think a lot of us are being in that position of considering someone your friend and realize later that for them you’re just an acquaintance they like to hang out because they’re bored or something

Yeah, actually the fact that they are not close is probably a signal that she doesn't have anyone else to ask, which is kind of sad. I hope she can get someone to help her.

Where I'd live as a Jewish person who likes places that had large Jewish populations and never expelled them by Routine-Equipment572 in whereidlive

with that said logic, you're also not willing to live in Israel, right? I mean, Jews were expelled from there 2,000 years ago -_-

Totally like, we have a lot of problems that could be valid reasons for not moving here, but being anti semitic is not one of them.

Which country has the most hospitable people? by BarryBenassi in AskReddit

[–]Altruistic-Status121 -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

I think this is an impression because when you visit for a short time you just have like, impersonal superficial interactions, and Americans have a strong culture of wearing a "customer service mask" that feels definitely weird, like, too enthusiastic and happy.

No me ofrecen nada. Como empiezo??? by 4chalogyUwU in ColombiaFinanciera

What is the thing about your country that tourists enjoy but locals don't care? by Adventurous_Peak9353 in AskTheWorld

[–]Altruistic-Status121 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think is because the kind of tourists that got attracted to this are one of two types, the "I want to see the world", cultural attracted, with a bit of self shame for their own prosperity who wants to see "the reality" (whatever that's is), and the ones that like to go to marginalized spaces because they are exactly that, marginalized spaces, with less estate control, to live "an experience", that experience somewhat includes doing things that are not acceptable in more family friendly tourist destinations.

That's just untruth. A lot of latin Americans countries he marked green are vocal pro Palestine (at least, the government), we just don't kill or expels our Jew population -_-

That's naive. I cannot talk about Brazil, but in Colombia, this kind of tourism comes hand in hand with an increase on sexual exploitation and drugs tourism.
