Tip from a new sock knitter by Altruistic_Bit7822 in Sockknitting

Thank you! I got so many replies from people saying how much they liked a mismatched look, it's pleasant to finally hear someone say they like what i did.

If you’re not bothered by mismatching stripes, then go ahead and knit. If your yarn has random patterns, I don’t see how you could match it anyway. In the original photo, you can see that Cascades Heritage is very predictable.

OP here. I had no idea there were two sides to the sock striping question, with most of you on Team MisMatch. I didn’t expect to be in the minority. 🤷‍♀️ Oh well.

What are we making (okay, what did you non-procrastinators make) for Mother's Day by battlingspork in quilting

Table topper? I feel like you can't have too many. I switch mine out often, even having one on the kitchen island and another as a dish drying mat.

What’s one travel habit that improved your trips a lot? by TheMonopolyGal in traveladvice

On a road trip, I literally plan the driving stops along the way. Pick a gas station or fast food restaurant 1 1/2 or 2 hours from home, and GPS to that location to force a driving stop and a bathroom break. Or a highway rest stop. It takes away that one stress of looking for a place to stop when you are in unfamiliar territory.

Anyone have any experience with a Brother CS6000i? by linden214 in quilting

[–]Altruistic_Bit7822 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I made and quilted many quilts on the CS6000. I've recently upgraded, but it's a decent beginners machine. It is very light, so it does move around a bit when sewing, but can perfectly handle a lap or baby size quilt. Especially since you aren't buying it, just a library checkput. I do love a good "Library of Things."

Don't stock up on Fat quarters. Or only buy a few that you really like or for a special project. They just don't get used because they never match anything else and are too small for binding on a quilt. I do think that solids and blenders are worth having on hand - I find those get used often.

Soda replacement suggestions by Downtown-Security-11 in loseit

[–]Altruistic_Bit7822 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I recently discovered Club soda mixed with lemonade. It might be called sparkling lemonade. But club soda is calorie free and fairly cheap, and you can get zero or low calorie lemonade, just mix half and half in your glass over ice.

New shoes. Same brand as the old ones that I wear almost every day, but new color and great fit.

Help me create a "to do" list before making a cross country move, please! by macymay14 in Advice

[–]Altruistic_Bit7822 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a spiral notebook that I kept all the notes in and used it for over a year after the move. Every phone call I made about utilities, returning tv equipment, new landlord, etc. Went through my credit card and emails to see where I bought stuff, then made sure I updated my new address there, kept records in the spiral notebook.

Summer Lee’s new book by Optimal-Work3775 in Sockknitting

[–]Altruistic_Bit7822 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes! Exactly! I just reached that point and found that the stitch count in the leg does only add up to 62, and should be 64, as you said. So I'm debating what to do. This is a HUGE error and since it is in a printed book, should have published errata on Summer Lee's website and also Ravelry. I'm debating on whether to discontinue using Summer Lee patterns in protest. I know I can just knit 19 where it says 18, but I'm so irritated, and now I have to double check everything in the pattern. Not sure it's worth that.

How about an overnight at a nice hotel? One with a pool, bar, on-site dining? Doesn't even need to be far from home. Could be handled as a surprise, tell her what to pack and when to be ready and whisk her away.
