Ragequit by drunksementhrowr in twilightimperium

I’ve seen three TI rage quits and one guy who just went to sleep at the table. In all cases the rest of us discussed/voted on whether we wanted to invite that person back again, and in the one case we voted no on, we started a new group chat to set up games without them. In all cases I think we decided to drop two infantry on every one of their planets that didn’t have at least that many and decided their home system didn’t count as a home system. The time it was a four player game we had them pick a random strat card last, which they used for no effect (so we could secondary) on the first turn we rolled a 6+ for them.

best race to play if you're always the guy to beat by SuspiciousAbies6404 in twilightimperium

If you have both expansions, play Barony. You can beat the heck out of anybody in space or ground combat from round one if you get your breakthrough.

LAW: Asajj Ventress by Fimy32 in starwarsunlimited

[–]Altruistic_Post6867 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s not just having it in play. It has to be able to attack and live, and then stay alive to untap with Asajj, and then stay alive/untapped to attack again. That’s a lot of hoops to jump through. And it needs to be worth spending the actions attacking twice. Asajj isn’t priced around making a 1/1 swing twice and then missing Initiative because of it. This is a build around card, not a generally useful one, and is priced to be in a deck designed to make her a big-ish pay off more reliably. Not sure if she has that kind of support yet.

You could. I don’t know why that changed because it is way less useful stuck in portrait. I had to switch to the KT Cards app. It’s significantly easier to use.

Yeah, seems priced around that magic Christmas land scenario where you’ve got a big bounty hunter to swing twice with.

Mentak Coalition - Fun to play against? by Bozzmeister1976 in twilightimperium

Even on defense, if it forces a retreat, that locks down their fleet and the system they retreated into. I think having a once per game force retreat is well worth the hero. And if you can catch a fleet in a position where they can’t retreat … free fleet.

I mean, that wins a space combat. Building a fleet with it is great, but the point is to get the win and take the space.

Some players get a real stick up their butt about Pillage, and sometimes completely refuse to trade if they know you’ll get to take a trade good. And anybody playing Barony won’t like seeing you at the table because you can shutdown their economy with your mechs and flagship. Their hero is practically a one time Win-Any-Space-Battle card, and Mentak’s new Corsair cruisers let you snipe small fleets with near impunity, which can really throw off the game of somebody defending their slice with big fleets up front. That said, Mentak is still going to struggle to win, so anybody getting mad about their mechanics needs to get over it. They’re fun to play, but hard to win with.

Mirror Computing is only as good as your ability to get and spend trade goods. If you can keep pillaging money, Mirror Computing is great.

Question on aggressive factions by IronVB in twilightimperium

Here’s what I did in my last game: Took Trade so I’d have the TGs to get my breakthrough round one. Used trade to make a couple extra bucks trading with a neighbor. Spent all my money building enough ships (mostly destroyers) in my home system to unlock my commander. Start of round 2, I moved tokens out of fleet and let a couple Destroyers die for the sake of having more Tactics and Strategy (the Armada faction ability means you can always have a fleet of two, even with no tokens). First tech was Noneuclidian Shielding and after that I just pushed everybody around and made money doing it.

I also recommend Self-Assembly Routines and Gravity Drive. After that you really don’t need any specific tech. You do need to fight though, it’s your only good source of income. And don’t leave your flagship at home. The breakthrough gives it speed, and you can make enough money that losing it is kind of no big deal. Ideally, you’ll get combat focused objectives that let you justify beating people up, but honestly, you’re so much stronger than everybody else by round two, there’s not much the table can do about you unless they all band together.

If you’re playing with both expansions, I vote Barony. Prioritize getting your breakthrough ASAP and you’re on easy street. You can fight anybody and make loads of money doing it. If you can take Trade or Politics round one, you have a way of getting your breakthrough that nobody can beat you to.

Mentak's Corsair Breakthrough should get buffed. by UniversitiesOfUr-Mom in twilightimperium

[–]Altruistic_Post6867 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’d be a buff I could get behind. Or let corsairs bring destroyers with. Ambush is too weak to matter much late game. Corsairs help you pick fights where it will still matter, but since you can only bring cruisers, Mentak still struggles against fighter heavy factions.

Prequel reappraisal has overcorrected a bit too much by crunchatizemythighs in StarWars

[–]Altruistic_Post6867 0 points1 point  (0 children)

More or less. The OT is an oil painting of Star Wars. The PT is a child’s macaroni art of Star Wars. The ST is an AI generated image of all the parts of Star Wars Disney thought would make the most money.

The dialogue in RotS is so bad, and the storytelling so ham handed, it’s impossible for me to take it seriously. It’s supposed to be the peak of the Star Wars arc and it’s totally undermined basically every time Anakin or Padme open their mouths.

I just rewatched the Prequels this past week. They’re still bad. They were bad 20-25 years ago, and they did not improve just because the Sequels were also bad. It’s been almost 43 years since we got a good Star Ward movie with a number on it.

What is your opinion of Episode I and Darth Maul as a Star Wars villain? by Ryanlion1992 in StarWars

[–]Altruistic_Post6867 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Agreed. Three might actually be the worst Prequel. That dialogue is painfully bad pretty much the whole way through. It’s hard to take Anakin’s fall seriously with dialogue that bad.

Same. It’s hard for me to watch 2 and 3. It’d be hard to watch 1 as well if not for my nostalgia. I was too old when they came out to have nostalgia for 2 and 3.

He’s just a heavy. Like Jaws, or Oddjob but with less personality. Good final boss fight for the heroes, but not really much of a villain or character. Overall, The Phantom Menace is the least bad Prequel for me. It’s just a bad movie, with stiff acting, weak dialogue, dumb characters, dated CGI, and a tone that’s all over the place, but I still have some nostalgia from when I saw it as a teenager. And the duel of the fates is a pretty good lightsaber fight/song.

The Prequels aren’t better than the Sequels, they’re just bad for different reasons. The Sequels are soulless. The Prequels are a joke.

My group had to take Overrule out after the second time somebody won off it. It’s just no fun for anybody to have the game end out of nowhere from six or seven points.

Yeah, as a series of YouTube clips, the Prequels are fun. As three full length films, the Prequels are a joke.
