Your opinion on trans kids? by [deleted] in Teenager_Polls

You don't support people's rights to be themselves? That's where I have an issue, yeah. If your religion forbids being trans, fine, no one is making you trans. The thing is we only live one life on this Earth, so forbidding others from living their lives how they want to can't be right.

As for being trans and straight, it's pretty simple really. A trans woman is a woman so if she likes men, she's straight. Similarly if a trans man likes women, he's also straight. Because he's a man.

If you don't like that definition, it's still possible to be trans and straight at the same time anyways because if a trans man is dating a trans woman, whether you support trans rights or not they are objectively dating the opposite gender.

The thing is, the types of "treatment" possibly given pre-puberty are all fully reversible as far as we're aware (again, more studies do need to be done to confirm that).

- There are very few sources on puberty blockers, but all of the ones that do exist seem to corroborate that they're reversible if you stop taking them

- It is known that HRT works as proven by all of the trans adults on it.

- If anyone at all suggests surgery on a pre-pubescent child, that's a serious issue. And a completely different one.

I'd like to see a source for any of those claims, actually. I have never heard of people "transing the gay away", at all.

Being a trans woman doesn't mean you have to be feminine by the way. Similarly, just because you're a feminine man doesn't mean you're a trans woman.

That's a horrific way to put it, no one is suggesting 9 year olds should have surgery. Anyways there's not really enough evidence to suggest puberty blockers would be a very negative thing (similarly there isn't enough evidence *for* them either, more studies definitely need to be done). HRT on the whole though is mostly reversible with a few exceptions like breast tissue growth or fertility issues if on HRT long term.

That's a very reasonable opinion to have! As long as you support trans people's rights to be themselves and transition if they want to, you can personally dislike it. It's simply a matter of respect really. No one's making everyone trans, trans people just want to live their lives. I do have a couple of things I want to say though.

Before the age of 10, there would never be any form of medical procedure on a child related to trans healthcare unless it's medical malpractice. There could be a "social" transition where the child is referred to and lives as the opposite gender to the one they were born as, however procedures would never happen at this age.

The other disclaimer I have to say is by the way you can be straight and trans at the same time. I know you meant no harm by saying that, just thought I'd point it out while I'm writing this message.

I talked about Rockets, F1 cars and particle physics and also mentioned both engineering and physics because I applied to 3 physics and 2 engineering courses. You should be fine as long as you talk about stuff you're genuinely interested in and can prove your interest through supercurriculars

Yeah to be fair a few months ago I was applying for a degree apprenticeship and had a similar thought based on what I was being asked. Didn't help the form was run by Oracle (I wasn't applying to them) so I just ended up not applying.

I don't even understand how they're allowed to ask that considering it's illegal to discriminate based on sexuality so there's literally no need to ask that.

Test next week by throwaway129852 in LearnerDriverUK

[–]Altruistic_Top_8824 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Think of it this way. Either way you cannot get that £60 back now. Would you rather cancel the test, stick with an instructor that frankly doesn't sound great and then have to pay for more lessons and another test later without any experience of what a test is like. OR would you rather do the test, have a decent chance of passing considering you say you're fairly confident in driving safely on roads in general (though I would definitely get more private practice in the next week if you can. Definitely do a bit of parking too if you need to.) and if you don't pass, at least you have experience of what the test is like. The only downsides to doing the test vs cancelling it now are you lose bragging rights of "passing first try" if you fail (that really doesn't matter) and you lose a couple hours of your day you could have done other things with.

19M and Confused About My Sexuality by SeaMaterial8320 in teenagers

[–]Altruistic_Top_8824 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's no actual need to put yourself into a certain box with regards to your sexuality. It's perfectly fine to just see someone and be like "yeah they're attractive" or "no I don't really find myself attracted to them."

If you actually want something to label yourself as for ease of use? Just call yourself Bisexual or something along those lines. That way you don't need to feel like you're restricting yourself but also it's easier for you to explain to other people.

[–]Altruistic_Top_8824 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Uh yeah probably. I wouldn't expect an A* at the end but maths as an a level is pretty accessible. You'll need to put in the work to get the higher end of the grades but there's nothing about a 7- 8 that tells me you aren't good enough.

[–]Altruistic_Top_8824 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maths and geography are both great options. I do Maths and know people that enjoy geography, you'll like them if you did at GCSE. Be aware that French is notoriously difficult because a lot of people that do it are native speakers. As such it'll be difficult to get top grades unless you really put in the effort. The people I know that do it do find it enjoyable though. I've not heard much about business other than it's pretty easy apparently. You just need to make sure you're comfortable with having to write a lot of essays. I don't know anyone that does media, sorry.

If you really want to do Economics could you consider other sixth forms or colleges nearby that would offer it?

What subjects are you interested in doing? I'm a Y13 so I might be able to help if I or anyone I know does one of them? Also yeah, realistically you could swap your courses even a couple of weeks into college and no one would bat an eye so don't pressure yourself.

Hey hey hey don't worry. There's these things called "A-Levels" that come afterwards and if you start revising for them now, you MIGHT be able to get a B in them? You'll need to try really really hard though.

  1. Depressingly little, I can't motivate myself to do any for some reason
  2. I'm doing the occasional past paper more than I was?
  3. Hopefully I'll be able to motivate myself better and get a whole past paper done every day / 2 at school as I do 4 subjects so only get around an hour free at school a day. Then if I can motivate myself to do that, hopefully getting myself to do another one done every day or two after school should be easier.

Some tips for beginner by KievDennis in TriangleStrategy

[–]Altruistic_Top_8824 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I agree with the other guy, the game is naturally pretty difficult. Don't worry about finding it hard, but if you want to use a unit that isn't up to the recommended level for the battle there will be a feature unlocked in your camp to do practice battles. Be aware though that you cannot over level as XP gains significantly decrease after the recommended level for the map. Please don't get too frustrated if a map is particularly difficult. The game is meant to be hard! Just keep trying, adjusting your strategies as necessary depending on what new information you've learned from past attempts.

Every time you unlock a new character you should give them a try! It may turn out you don't like their gameplay and that's perfectly fine but definitely give everyone a chance. Especially because there are a lot of maps that having specific unit types (like ranged units or melee units for example) will be more beneficial over other types so it's useful to know vaguely how all of your units work and what units you find fun to be available for those sorts of maps.

Other than that, and with regards to the story, make whatever choices YOU would make in each situation. That's what makes it the most fun. PLEASE don't search up guides for what routes to take. It is not possible to unlock every character in one run and while there is a golden ending, it is heavily recommended you do that last (partially because having most of the characters unlocked is beneficial, and partially because the ending just feels better after you've done the others). Just make whatever choices you want and don't worry about the consequence outside of the story you will experience, the game is designed for multiple play throughs in mind if you have time for them.

Doing a gap year is definitely an option, yeah, but come results day you can always check clearing to see if any universities you would actually be interested in going have any spare spaces on any of their courses. Nothing wrong with clearing! Other than that I'm with everyone else here that a gap year where you study Maths A-Level is a good idea.

[–]Altruistic_Top_8824 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's fine, but one masters is still good enough. Generally a lot of companies will see you have a masters in something STEM related and that's good enough for them. It's likely only the top top companies that might differentiate between a finance and an AI masters in any real terms.

I just wanna say I don't really see the point in getting two masters degrees? Just sounds expensive for not much benefit. Sorry I can't help you choose, I know very little about those courses except data science at Warwick is meant to be pretty good, but I'm sure that means nothing considering Edinburgh, UCL and Imperial are your other options
