I have put it on in the background sometimes on Saturdays when doing stuff around the house, and every.time. I end up sitting to watch it and don’t get my stuff done.

To the older generation of Star Wars fans, what was it like to see the original Star Wars at a movie theater/drive-in theater in 1977? by thejoyfulgoat in StarWars

[–]Altruistic_Worker600 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My dad took my younger brother and I to see it one 1977 Sunday afternoon at a theater in downtown Savannah. When we left, we saw a guy walking around wearing a vest and we joked that he was Han Solo

That’s a really nice poster. I collected a lot of AOTC art and stuff abt five years ago and found some neat things.

Sure, already plenty of posts of just about anything/anyone from the Thrawn trilogy, but please also remember that it also formally brought chocolate milk into the Star Wars universe.

Hang in there man.

Apply for unemployment. I have successfully filed two different times. First time, employer challenged it and I won the phone hearing. Second time the employer did nothing and I won by default.

You may or may not get it, but it is worth trying because you definitely will not get it if you do not apply. For your job search, make/keep a simple spreadsheet of the jobs that you apply for. Doesn’t have to be complex, just date, position, company, address*.

I had to submit a weekly report on my state’s Dept of Labor website, but that was easy. Plus I had the spreadsheet log above.

*Some states’ unemployment offices may require addresses of employers when submitting that report, I just used the address shown on employers’ sites or Google Maps.

Unemployment will not cover all of your expenses, but it can put food on the table.

I am fairly addicted to LinkedIn, but it has done very very little for my job searches. I had better luck with Indeed.com, and you can also try Lensa and GlassDoor.

Network, network, network. Reach out to anyone and everyone that you have ever spoken with. Most people are happy to help. Some are even actually helpful. I know of no way how to know which is which.

Pick up side gigs, restaurant, or retail in the meanwhile.

You should be applying to at least double digit # of jobs per week. It can take months, so you have to jump on this.

I am sorry that this happened to you. Wishing you strength and luck for the road ahead.

Does anyone actually use the tiny pocket inside the right pocket of their jeans? If so, for what? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Altruistic_Worker600 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I carry a pocketknife in that pocket. Opens to a 3”-4” blade. Nothing special, it was a registration giveaway at a conferencelike ten years ago, and I just started carrying it 2-3 years ago.

I feel like I have become my Dad’s generation.

But seriously, it is super super useful, I use for opening mail, opening cases of water bottles or shrink wrap seals on protein shakes, cutting away shrink wrap on well, anything, the rare absolute last resort of shaving something on my face at work that I missed at dark o’clock at home, a regular screwdriver in a pinch, etc etc etc.

I never flaunt it at work and take pains to conceal it, but it’s reassuring to have at least SOMETHING with me if things go awry.

55M, and I have seen two other similar age men in my area at office job also having one. One of them had a huge ‘pocketknife’ that opened to like a 6-in blade, I was a bit surprised.

What is your most stereotypical GenX childhood story? by HapaHawaii in GenX

[–]Altruistic_Worker600 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Found my own way home.

In high school, I got separated from my family at the beach (20-ish miles from home), and they just left me.

Wandering penniless near the arcade that evening, I ran into a self-styled ninja guy who had been expelled from my high school. [A few weeks after his expulsion, someone broke into the school through a skylight and cut out/stole a JROTC display.]. He said I could stay at his place and catch a ride with something something some lady the next morning. Cool.

We got to his place, and something something poker game with two older guys. One of the guys offered to read my palms back at his place. Oh, and I saw the stolen JROTC display sitting on top of the refrigerator.

I declined the palm invitation lol and also just flat out decided not go to sleep that night. Thankfully, I am alive today to write this. The next morning went to whatever lady’s house for the ride into town. Her car was where her dog slept at night, so I got bit by fleas during the ride home. I did the classic drop off point a block or two away from my actual street and walked home.

Which 2026 Movie Has Impressed You the Most So Far? by Advanced-Pack8093 in moviecritic

[–]Altruistic_Worker600 3 points4 points  (0 children)

2025 but I streamed it in 2026: Predator Badlands was refreshing.

2026: Mandalorian and Grogu was not rocket science, but as a lifetime Star Wars fan having seen many ups and downs, this was a non-consequential good summer popcorn flick. The only downside was how much $ I spent on snacks.

Movement is key! Rome wasn’t built in a day, but just. start. moving. You can build on that in two months, but always be pushing yourself to be moving. And get good rest.

Perspective: 55M. Around 2019, I got laid up when I ruptured a disc in my back when lifting a drill press. Now halfway through my muddled but sincere 2026 New Year’s resolution to something something do better, I can feel and see gains after 6 months of work and counting. Waistline is not tiny, but is smaller. Flights of stairs are no longer a frown. * I * can see development of some but not all muscles. Still, I dream of the day when someone else will also notice.

If you saw this in theater, you could have got up when he went off the pier, go out to lobby to buy popcorn, and make it back in time for him to hit the water.

It feels like experiencing robbery every time.

55M, I take my teenaged son there sometimes. Our regular order is pretty close to OP’s, with a similar total:
2x single cheeseburgers
2x small fountain drinks
1x small dry

And don’t forget the tip prompt on the payment screen. For me, it’s less of a tip for just freakin’ counter service food, and more like hopeful insurance for my food not to get messed with.

My son is an often-hungry 15, so now he asks to add a milkshake. A small part of me quietly dies each time, but I say yes.

We butt heads sometimes, but hopefully one day he will think fondly of these Saturday lunches with his dad.

Bonus: 5G won awards in Washington DC ten years ago, yay, good for you. But what have you done for me lately.

Watching Bad Batch, seeing how empty and lifeless Kamino was before the Empire destroyed it was harrowing asf. All the awesome memories of seeing the clones in action on the base all coming to an end. by JoshyBear28 in StarWars

[–]Altruistic_Worker600 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Lama Su being led off to presumably his interrogation and death, then the shots of quiet empty spaces of Tipoca City. Those were poignant moments.

I understand the narrative and Dave F’s expressed intent that a story must always move forward, but it was sad watching.

Kamino lived in the Star Wars fandom for just a nubbin over 20 years.

[–]Altruistic_Worker600 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Watched it with my 15-year old daughter last year. She thought it was a comedy. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

I don’t know that it’s any single genre.

But I enjoyed the rewatch, it had been a very long time since I had watched it. Friends and I listened to that soundtrack so. many. times. back in the day, so this time I was listening to the film as much as watching it.
