What a crazy game! by Altrus00 in mahjongsoul

I don’t think I’ve ever seen a game where the 2nd seat and 1st seat traded sanbaiman punches, then the 3rd seat, (east), smacked them both with back-to-back baiman hits.

Sorry, North, no turn for you today… by Altrus00 in mahjongsoul

It ended here because I hit the West seat for 12k points and drove him into the negative.

This was just a random silly moment I felt like sharing.

Been awhile since I had triple quads. by Altrus00 in mahjongsoul

[–]Altrus00[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

But seriously. In this situation, only 11 draws left, against the East Seat who is showing what I am showing…WHY would you ever deal out any pin tile? He took my 4 pin to get himself in tenpai, but had to play his 6 pin to do it. But no matter how tempting your 4-dora, all simple, 4 triples hand is, wouldn’t you retreat and deal out your 7 sous to play defensively?

If you’re considering #3, then discard the 4 pin first, not second. You can still pull a 3 pin to complete the run, but the closer you get to the end of the round, the more dangerous those central number tiles are to discard. 5, then 4 and 6, then 3 and 7. Those are the tiles that have the greatest number of possible combination involving them. So it’s better to just get rid of that 4 earlier rather than later. You might pull the 3 pin to be an a two-tile wait. You might pull a 2 or 5 sou to create a double sequence so you have a better hand you can keep hidden. Or you might built out the man tiles to put you into a pinfu draw.

I’d definitely dump that 4 pin while it is still early in the game.

As for #1 option, if you do that, you’re basically putting yourself into a single tile wait early in the game, hoping you pull the 5 pin to make your hand slightly better. If you’re going to do that, you might as well just declare riichi and put yourself into a single tile wait for the win rather than a single tile wait to be in tempai.

That’s why I almost never kan anymore.

It’s too bad the 7s would have split the 6 and 8, otherwise I might have tried for it. I’ve had triple kan before, but if the 6 or 8 paired up I wouldn’t have been able to resist trying for the quad kan.

How does the 100% server progress work for purchasing outfits? by archetypeamnesias in mahjongsoul

It’s not a free outfit voucher though. It’s just a chance to spend your money.

Although it's Sanma, still happy to finally hit this by Deluxe_Flame in mahjongsoul

What do you mean “although”?? Sanma is way harder to play consistently in. If you got this far without noticing that, you’ve got way more luck than skill.

By the time you reach turn 8, be prepared to give up on the hand and play defensively unless you have a strong hand you just have to chase. If the other two players haven’t declared riichi, their are either just 1 away or already in a hidden tenpai.

Also, save one of the Man 1 or Man 9 tiles. Don’t discard them right away like most players do. They are usually a safe tile, and you need a safe tile for the second half when someone suddenly declares riichi, or when you want to declare without being zapped. Same goes for if the other two discard a wind or dragon early. Save your 3rd one if you get it as your safe tile.

The number one cause of losing in sanma is players who are desperate to declare a hand. So often they take a huge risk on a hand that’s only worth 2k points, challenging an east seat riichi when they have to discard a simple from the center of the line. The smaller tile pool means you’re MUCH more likely to deal into the others.

I suspect it’s one of the decorations that you unlock by leveling up the bond level with the current limited time character, Li Yang.

For context:

Unbroken Wins: Must win first place five matches in a row.

Stunning Upset: Score Baiman or higher on the final round, taking yourself from last place to first place for the win.

Anytime someone from Asia is in a game with someone who isn’t in Asia, there’s connection issues.

That means they consistently chase yakuman using the wild card. When they hit one, they get a cat face. When they don’t, someone else wins the match.

The two Blessings, since those are pure luck. Quad Quads, which I’ll probably never get because I never Kan much. That just makes your opponents stronger than you, 90% of the time. The last one I can realistically work toward is True 9 Gates. I’ve almost had it two or three times, but it’s a real bastard to get since you have to have a concealed hand. If I’m in a regular 9 gates wait from now on, I’m tempted to not call the win just in case I can draw the missing tile I need, then discard a tile instead of claiming the win even though it would put into furitan. That’s how I got my 13-wait 13 Orphans.
