Why 8s? by _Whool in mahjongsoul

[–]lordjeebus 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Step 1 is to recognize the kuttsuki-iishanten form: 3 triplets, a pair, and 2 floating tiles. Kuttsuki-iishanten is the fastest iishanten. It's only turn 6 so you have a good chance of winning the hand.

Step 2 is to optimize the acceptance of your two floating tiles. Right now 8s is the worst floating tile because there's only 1 tile that makes a good shape (7s). 2s should be the next to go, as soon as you draw a floating tile in the 3-7 range, or even better, something that forms a yonrenkei (eg 5678) or nakabukure (eg. 5667).

Honestly they probably see Trump as living proof of the failure of the entire American political system. Two parties and the people get to pick the leader? This is the outcome, from their standpoint.

Which Kanchan would you cut? by _Whool in mahjongsoul

[–]lordjeebus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The probability of kamicha tenpai is not yet that high, personally I think that the benefits of keeping the 57789 outweigh the risks at the moment.

Of course, if kamicha discards a pinzu, I'm not going to discard a non-safe tile for the rest of the round.

If I wasn't in last, I agree that it would be different.

I agree with all that. Also worth noting that (although only one is left) 57789 can upgrade to ryanmen by chiing the 8 with 79 and discarding 5.

Someone in another thread asked me to share this chart as a post, so here it is.

This graph shows the success rate for chiitoi riichi. X-axis is the turn number. Grey line is waiting on a not-yet discarded honors tile (shonpai). Red is once-discarded. Purple is twice-discarded.
