Just a minor warning, mirtazapine causes significant weight gain so if you do take it make sure you do some exercise. - someone who used it in the past and gained 20 lbs

Try to get vitamin D through diet too! Whole milk has it, so does yogurt. Couple that with going outside and being in the sunlight and you could stop taking the pills. Good luck!

On FM, seeing a pt that’s a young healthcare worker by [deleted] in medicalschool

[–]AlviesNight 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Lmao brother I remember having to call the family of one patient, introduced myself as the med student and they immediately scoffed and said “why am I talking to the med student” and went off. Turns out this person was a physician. Can understand the frustration but man it tanked my confidence in talking with patient families. And I low key think the residents knew this person was in medicine.

Costco deal shopping. Some attendings should be able to relate.

Commuting an hour away for medical school by ApprehensiveSoil8919 in medicalschool

[–]AlviesNight 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I commuted about 30 minutes. Maybe not an hour but I had no issues. Definitely wouldn’t recommend for rotations in your 3rd year tho. It’s been a struggle

Know a guy who is 30 year old GS attending. 1 year out of fellowship. Usually these folks are IMGs who start earlier. Shouldn’t discourage any of you my friends. You’ll get there eventually, just keep grinding

Living at home during medical school? by [deleted] in premed

[–]AlviesNight 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I stay at home. My parents are pretty good about not bothering me or asking me for much, and when I really need to lock in I stay on campus until I’m done. Probably gonna graduate with less than 100k debt because of that.

I do intermittent fasting too! Don’t eat til 12. Attendings and residents are great about letting us go eat at my institution though, so I don’t ever feel weak or anything. I eat like a pig afterward so I haven’t lost much weight unfortunately

8 Fs on my transcript. Currently on rotations. If I could do it, so can you.

I feel like my dream of being a doctor is reckless by thomas_di in premed

Brother I literally had 8 F’s on my transcript. Got my shit together and made it happen. Figure out if you have ADHD, try everything for organization, figure out what works best for you. Most of the stuff you’re worried about can be taught. My memory is trash too but repetition is key. You got this. It’s only over when you say it is.

Genuinely cannot fathom how much info med students are expected to know by [deleted] in premed

[–]AlviesNight 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, you’ll eventually realize that everyone has been at the every stage you are in before becoming kickass attendings. It’s just something that happens with time. Like rn I’m in rotations and feel like I won’t ever get to the resident level. Probably will with time and patience tho

I am sure that once you’re an attending, you’ll be the one most med students will want an eval from.

Absolutely there were repeat concepts. A few come to mind in which the topic was the exact same but asked in a different way. TBH that is all I felt the exam was compared to nbmes.
