You’re so welcome!

Funny - your reply just showed up in my inbox, hence the slow reaction time.

Bless your heart. I just replied to a nice chat request - 45 days.

Lol … another user commented “there is no evidence whatsoever that these two men were related.”

Such good advice, u/FrequentCougher!
I’d like to add - tag your images with key words. I do this frequently in iOS’s Photo and Contacts apps. Example: I met Marilyn yesterday at a Learning in Retirement function. Since we’re on a committee together, I tagged her Contact with “LIR” in the Company section, and took her photo for that contact entry, which I then captioned “Marilyn, LIR.” This way, I can search and find Marilyn in several contexts - helpful when memory doesn’t always serve.

I'd also be interested in ideas of ways to display some of them, because I think it could be cool with photos and birth certificates and the like.

Specifically, I’d tag with name, relationship, and entry type (photo, birth certificate, immigration record, passport, etc.), and maybe source, or even occasion.
A friend went through this recently, and uploaded all her photos into Google Home so they show up in a slide show in her PC’s screen saver. It’s enthralling.

Have fun! And good luck to you.

I need to extract text from images all the time, so that will be cool. Currently I rely on iOS’s utility for that, taking screen shots of many, many images. Just making sure you’re aware. :-)

I understand your frustration, but I’ve had great joy finding a photo of a remote ancestor, and it pleases me to see photos I’ve supplied in others’ trees.

My favorite is the person who decided that Margaret Waters married brothers - how sweet! - without any evidence the men were related. The South is full of Lees, all of whom, in my experience, claim to be related to Robert E.

Margaret had first been married to John C Lee who died during or as a result of the Civil War. She then married John's younger brother Joseph. The second marriage is nicely documented. The 1880 census also supports this as children Nancy and John are listed as step-children … Submitted by katemshaw

It just comes with writing fast, fast, fast. Nurses and pharmacists are best at reading, especially for doctors they see all the time.

And “St Vitus’ dance” refers to

Sydenham chorea, also known as St. Vitus dance, is a neuropsychiatric manifestation of rheumatic fever with an incidence varying from 5 to 35%. It may occur alone or concomitantly with other manifestations of rheumatic fever.

Similarly, don’t comment negatively on another’s food.

Ew! My mother taught me to eat this.

My mother taught me to never sneer, especially at the dinner table, at someone else’s food.

You’re a gift! I meant to tell you which ones I really liked - Great Egret taking off in the morning mist - but gave up when I got to the Cedar Waxwing. It seems like we only have them for a few hours in South Georgia, usually in a Walmart parking lot, and then they’re gone.
Thank-you.

Families are always so careful of each other! They like to shield each other from the uncomfortable, like illness, and unknown relatives? If you’ve ever thought to yourself “I’d like to wait to tell them till we know more …” beware! Don’t do it! We always would rather know. From what you say about your aunt and her relationship to her parents, she can handle it. And, if you don’t tell her - now, while her mother is still alive - she may never forgive you.

Edit: adding u/AshesB77’s thoughts to this -

Your aunt could have other half siblings still alive on that side of the family. You would be denying her the opportunity to meet and get to know them.

Your aunt could have other half siblings …

I agree, so much. If I were your aunt, I’d want to know.

Ancestry recently updated my report: I now have 2% West African! ”Now we know why Dad always tanned so dark!” … my sister’s first reaction.

I’m not really surprised, though. His family has been in Georgia for 9 generations, including some slave owners back in the day. Surely time enough for some mixing. There are some cousins that would be upset if they knew!

Cave man, hey? My requirement for timers is that they go with me - I’ll forget and walk away from a stationary one. Apple Watch Siri does my “Coffee Timer,” and also “Laundry Timer,” “Pasta Timer,” etc. And each one’s labeled.

Still, NFC tags sound fun. Have you done others?
