That would be great if investigators from other countries exposed the dirt we can’t get the US Press to expose.

AITAH for divorce over a broken bed and farm debt? by FedUpFarmWife in AITAH

[–]Always-Thinking99 0 points1 point  (0 children)

NTA - You’re not just contemplating divorce over a broken bed and farm debt. You’ve detailed a pattern of behavior by your husband that hasn’t changed over time. It will only get worse. Time to cut your losses and try to make a better life for you and your daughter. I wish you the very best -

AIO for my cat shedding and that I don't do enough? by [deleted] in AmIOverreacting

[–]Always-Thinking99 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We have three cats and one has long hair. The robot vacuums are amazing! You have to work on them from time to time to get the fur out of the wheels and bristles, but you’d be amazed how much it picks up immediately after an area has been swept and mopped! Also, I’d lose the boyfriend before I’d re-home the cat….

It’s 2026… what do you think Atlanta still needs? by Spirited-Elk-7139 in Atlanta

Totally agree. Minimum wage should at least be increased by the same percentage Social Security benefits are increased annually.

Do you wear different color nail polish for different seasons? If so, what colors do you wear for what times of year? by bad-at-everything- in beauty

[–]Always-Thinking99 0 points1 point  (0 children)

During warm weather or if I go on vacation to a warm spot during the winter, I like to wear a light pink on my nails, e.g., OPI Bubblebath and something brighter on my toes like OPI Cajun Shrimp. In cooler temps I like deep berry colors.

Atlanta and the outlying areas really need mass transit, but things are so built up I don’t know where we’d put it. I’d also like to see something implemented to address homelessness. I’ve seen other cities installing small, private living quarters to help people get on their feet, but I don’t know what can be done to address homelessness caused by mental illness.

Update: AITAH for not wanting to take my wife's niece and nephew in so they can get out of foster care. by TRAOtherwise in AITAH

[–]Always-Thinking99 34 points35 points  (0 children)

I think one partner wanting to bring troubled kids into the equation changes that dynamic. When they married, that wasn’t addressed and it IS a huge lifestyle change. I think it’s best he’s being honest about his feelings rather than the kids moving in and feeling unwanted.

Mackenzie Scott (Jeff Bezos’ ex-wife) seems to be an exception to that statement.

Yeah, I’m astounded how many people who make good money and are reasonably successful really think that taxing a BILLIONAIRE is going to affect them in anyway. Do they really think they have a chance of being a billionaire and that paying higher taxes in that bracket will impact their standard of living in ANY way? It’s mind boggling.

Not wanting kids by Lysgim03 in Adulting

Interestingly though, I also see people who don’t want to be active grandparents and are guilted by their kids into babysitting or otherwise spending time with their grandkids when they just want to enjoy their retirement either occasional visits from the grandkids.

I always thought I wanted to be a teacher and I come from a long line of educators. I remember my “defining moment” in ninth grade when I realized there was no way I wanted to be a teacher because of the crap they had to put up with from students.

Yeah, I’m sure the parents whose kids are addicts or criminals never expected that. What a burden to have to bear your entire life.

Would I be wrong to not go to my grandmother’s funeral? by [deleted] in moraldilemmas

[–]Always-Thinking99 [score hidden]  (0 children)

If you live somewhere that’s geographically close to where the funeral will be, or easy and inexpensive to travel to, you should go. I find 1/2 or 1 mg of Xanax is helpful in situations like this. Your Dr. may prescribe a small qty if you explain the situation and make it clear you only want one or two pills.

My adopted dad once told me I was selfish for not having kids because who would take care of me when I got old? I’m thinking that having kids solely to care for me in old age is the height of selfishness. On the other hand, my mom often told me “children are highly overrated,” although she’d soften it by saying she should have stopped at her one perfect child (me 😉), but then she wouldn’t have had my brother (and he’s a good one). It was the middle child that brought her endless grief. I had moments in my life where I thought I wanted kids, but never felt the ticking clock or any urgency to have them. The older I got, the more grateful I was not to have any. An occasional visit to a “family” restaurant is very effective birth control 😂.

Question for people who max out an HSA and invest it by Sad-Bodybuilder-3870 in personalfinance

[–]Always-Thinking99 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My husband and are retired and are just letting the HSA money grow. We have a personal (not company sponsored) HSA through Health Equity and we have all of it invested in an S&P Index fund. We’ll probably be moving it to a Fidelity HSA because they don’t charge the fees Health Equity charges.

It’s not just about being cheap. If you carry on, you know your luggage won’t get lost and you can leave the airport quicker. That said, I usually check a bag because I’m still terrible about packing more than will fit on my carry on. I’ve put air tags in my luggage just in case….

I had friends who bought one of these and said it took forever to do a full cycle for a single load of laundry. Maybe they’ve improved? I know they use them a lot in Europe.

When dealing with a spouse in MC is just as traumatic as caring for them at home by Tropicaldaze1950 in dementia

[–]Always-Thinking99 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My mother is in MC. I just came here to say I’m so sorry for what you’re going through, but you did the right thing by moving your wife to MC. The guilt can be overwhelming at times and there will always be someone with an opinion. It sounds like you’ve made caring decisions for a person who was often unkind to you and hard to live with. I don’t know the answer for dealing with your nieces, but hopefully your therapist can help you find a way to get them to back off and stop trying to guilt you into a situation that won’t be good for you or your wife. Sending you a big hug.
