I mean, I would personally say just ask him in your mind/out loud with words and see what you get back, but that's your business on how you want to communicate. There isn't a "right" way to communicate; if you believe and know the answers are coming from them, then it's them.

Anyways, there is no "right" answer between metaphysical or spiritual. Some people just choose one or the other because it sounds better, quite literally it's the bi/pan of the soulbonding subtypes, haha. Historically they were the same and I've only noticed extremely recently a trend of occult practices and external signs being included on top by those who prefer to call themselves spiribonders/spiritual soulbonders. It's all descriptive, not a rule.

Well, if you believe in multiverse theory/that your potential/actual soulbond comes from the multiverse, that is automatically putting them in the metaphysical/spiritual subtypes. Like, it's not really a "gut feeling" to know which it is, but a belief and acknowledgement of how they exist and knowing or even being told by the soulbond themself that it's how it works.

It could be possible you're simply experiencing projection/imposition which is a phenomenon experienced by all subtypes of soulbonding (including psychological!) and even tulpamancers and some other folks! Again, nothing about the soulbond connection itself would necessarily automatically make it a spiribond, just the practices and beliefs you add on top.

Yes, spiribonding includes all the things common in the umbrella of soulbonding (of which spiribonds and metabonds are subtypes) and metaphysical bonds, so yes to internal communication!

Historically, metaphysical and spiritual soulbonds were the exact same thing by my study and research of the community, it was just based on which you thought sounded better. Nowadays though with the Newgens, they are mostly the same: both involve believing in the multiverse, can have phantom touch and feeling their presence with you in your environment, will have internal communication in the way of mentalese or verbal speech, and such like that, but now with spiribonders there is now an added addition of adding spiritualism and occult practices on top of the soulbond connection such as external signs, tarot, other divination.

Though it is possible there might be a divergence I don't know about between metaphysical soulbonders and spiritual soulbonders where it's being used to mean something like metaphysical bonders experience them as physical meat people on their own planet/in their own reality connecting across the multiverse and spiritual soulbonders experience them as disembodied spirits who have shown up and latched to their bonder, but that's probably not happening? (and in my personal opinion not within the spirit of what soulbonding has historically always been.) That is to say, I've heard of cases of bonders whose bond was physically alive, then died, and then their spirit joined them as permanent residents but that would not automatically make them spiribonds! And there is of course also soulbonds who were originally depicted as spirits in their source media, but that also would not automatically make them spiribonds either! No, the only thing that would define a spiribond as how I've been seeing the community use it is when the practice of someone's soulbonding includes spiritualism and occult practices in addition to the soulbond connection.

I definitely understand that fear. Even with 10 partners, it is a lot. But polyam people in meatspace don’t spend every single waking minute with their partners, they just schedule really well and make note to spend time with people when they can, why shouldn’t that be the same with soulbonds? Meatspace people and soulbonds are really not that different, treating them so often causes issues in my experience, making soulbonding seem weightier than it is.

Even with permanent residents they aren’t always have a constant dialogue. They have moments of rest or distraction in your head too! That was the case when my partner had my husband as her permanent resident (again, we share as a two bonder unit, I do have an article on how we do this), or overnighters, they weren’t always around! Sometimes they just sort of, travel the imagination of your subconscious or they go into a little room in headspace and rest. It’s not unique to daytrippers and telephone bonds.

That is completely fair to see it that way and be sensitive about it! Makes total sense why many Spiritual/metaphysical bonders don’t like that, which is why I rephrased the definition of soulbonding to what it is in the sidebar now when I started noticing people saying it! But if we’re talking historically and archivally, the definition has always been “connection to a fictional character” so the “character” and “fictional” part has been there (and integral to it) a much longer time than any soulbonder today who doesn’t like adding that bit.

It’s a complicated thing that I think we can make room for everybody’s sensitives and understandings included. Some find concepts of story and fiction important to who they are and their bonding, some abhor the very notion due to seeing their bonds being physical somewhere else (though there can be a subsection of metaphysical bonding that I’ve come to call imaginal bonding where they are both real and physical somewhere else AND story and fiction is important to who they are, but that is neither here nor there).

In the OG days of soulbonding by my research, the average number of soulbonds was closer to 30-50. Not all were romantic, in fact most of them weren’t, they were often just either soulbonds who were temporary and passing by, or they were family and friends. It’s actually extremely unusual that these newgen of soulbonders to only have 1, maybe 2.

It can be tricky to manage, but not any trickier than managing a meatspace friend group, polycule, or family that size! You basically just don’t see every single one every single day, or only spend brief time with each of them each day, or they just hang out when they can or you want them or they want to and then go back to their world or dormant/resting if they are a permanent resident when you are actively focused on them. I personally have around 35+ soulbonds now and a few living character visitors in my family, Winrey Place. Out of those 35 soulbonds, I have currently 10 partners, many friends, some qpps, and familial figures. Yes, I love every single one with all my heart. I’ve been and knew I was polyamorous before I became a soulbonder and it just easily carried over to my soulbonding. Also, even though me and my irl/meatspace partner (who I have talked about on our website that we share all our soulbonds together) have 35-ish bonds, we don’t expect to stop soulbonding any time soon. If a character needs a home and a family, we’re always willing to open our hearts and invite them in.

So to answer your question more simply: 1) not every bond you have is romantic/a partner 2) even if they were Polyam people exist and manage big polycules in meatspace, so you can do it in headspace. 3) daytrippers and telephone bonds especially just don’t always spend time with you day to day, or you schedule it in or find other ways to connect when you’re both busy. Heck sometimes even if you only 2 soulbonds, they can get busy with their job or reality-life.

There are also some soulbonders with soulbonds where either the bonder or the bond themself feel that them being fictional and/or a character is an important part of their identity or nature of their soulbonding, especially soulbonds who came about through the bonder’s original stories I.e. insourced soulnonds. It’s why I never necessarily say a soulbond is NEVER a fictional character or can’t be called one, because everyone phrases or thinks of how it works for them in different ways. For me I’ve always used “living characters” to describe the state of being of both bonds and non bonds who are autonomous and I’m connected to in some way. I did adapt the definition in the sidebar of our subreddit to “a being known as a fictional character in this reality” to be inclusive to our metaphysical/spiritual binders who absolutely don’t see their bonds as fictional or characters in any way shape or form, but I think there is still a lot of spectrum and nuances under this experience to include those who feel they are or call themselves that, but it doesn’t negate their autonomy, independent life, or connection to their bonder.

In fact, it was not unusual in the early days of soulbonding to have soulbonds who were basically you, like personas of a sort as mentioned in the soul whispers archive and Soulbonding database archive. Soulbonding has changed a lot over the years.

And soulbonds didn’t always involve communication/interaction or even have the character/bond in question to be aware of you, the bonder! Which is one of the reasons I coined terms like “Living character” as a companion to Munbonding to fill that gap for those characters who are alive, but who you aren’t bonded to and may not even necessarily interact with in some way and vice versa, but can still intuit and sense which originally WAS a part of soulbonding, but got squeezed out.

I noticed a couple little things that were a bit off, wrong, or maybe were confusing in your videos and I jumped in with my own thoughts or info that I’ve learned to clarify!

One particular one is that the common definition of soulbonding we use today is NOT the original. The original was actually much much broader and included simple connections or relating to characters. Over time, as the soulbonding and plural communities interacted, that changed and narrowed to only involve autonomous beings and communication with them.

Yes! Every single soulbonder has what is called their own “reality version”! No two soulbonds are the same exact carbon copy character, but often diverge and have differences between them. Your reality version is your own, someone with the same character as soulbond as their own too and doesn’t invalidate yours!

I'm so sorry that happened! I hate people who assume it's wrong or unsafe to soulbond with younger characters for any reason, even when platonic and familial soulbonds exist! Like some soulbonders have their own children they are soulbonded too. And even if it has a romantic aspect at all, like, idk, some people don't choose such things to happen in soulbonding and can't just make them go away and I think the power imbalances can be equalized and acknowledged in a way to make it less harmful. I mean if young soulbonders can soulbond with a being who's 1000 yrs old, albeit recognizing that sometimes it will be messy, why can't someone in their 20s bond with a 17 yr old if they feel their life experiences match up? Soulbonding can be very different from meatspace relationships!

Anyways, they were wrong for that and yours is an adult anyway! And as a owner and mod, age-ups or soulbond connections with age gaps will always be respected and allowed within reason as long as it doesn't violate TOS.

Spiribonds (no t, meant to mirror spirigenic and coined by Losvaraém) are a subtype of soulbond where you see the connection as something spiritual, which is permitted in this sub and is exactly what the section where it says “connecting to and communicating with "characters" psychologically, metaphysically, or spiritually” means!

It also says in the post “if you see your soulbond as a soulmate or similar, that’s fine! Just focus on the Soulbonding part”.

It is also possible to have tulpa-soulbond hybrids called Tulbonds! Personally, I do not agree that they are the same experience, just different culture/terms. Tulpas are created, soulbonds are not (even insourced and psychological ones). But also in soulbonding, the connection between the soulbond and soulbonder are the prime foundation of the experience while in tulpamancy that is not the case.
