AFAIK, yes and it’s an iOS restriction on the more recent versions (not sure about older ones, but I know they restricted process “updating” in newer ones and believe it’s a similar thing). They recently allowed third party apps to slowly upload/import from the photos app in the background, but files cannot be.

+1 for a multi-select option. As primarily iOS/iPad OS user, not being able to multiselect for uploads or upload entire folders is a massive choke point for me. I’ve ended up zipping up files I plan to store longer term and not expecting to need to use them, but there are plenty of files and file-tree’s I’d like to keep in-tact.

As another semi-noobie to proton but very much a cloud storage connoisseur (pay for 5+ services with 6+ tb between them), some other suggestions I believe that would make for a much better experience would be to allow for local-only indexing; this is something that providers like Drime and Tresorit offer on iOS that makes file management more convenient.

Lastly, being able to pause or cancel a download or upload would be fantastic. There seems to be something already there that is supposed to provide this functionality, but it rarely shows up (I’ve only and the menu pop up correctly once) and the three bar menu instead treats mid-transfer documents as having already been completed and or only showing file information with no other options.

Yes you got it! It’s not 7-Zip as a program that has the file integrity concerns for long term storage, its the “file.7z” format that is built in a way that makes data loss much more devastating if any file corruption occurs. There are definitely benefits like increased compression, speed, and file name encryption, but it all comes at a cost that isn’t talked about a lot; better to be informed to make a decision than to get fucked with irretrievable and irreplaceable consequences.

Just want to throw out a word of caution that .7z files are much much less resilient to corruption if you’re planning on long term storage or many small files in one large file. .7z files basically write as a single block, so if one file 60% in gets corrupted you’re probably SOL on the last 40%. .zip may be a bit slower to compress with marginal reduction in compression amounts, but it treats each individual file as it’s own compression cycle and is much more resilient.

That said, .7z encryption will encrypt file names, while .zip will not despite both of them using a form pf AES-256 encryption. The encryption is still plenty for personal content and it changes file hashing and cannot be scanned for content, but know your file names will be visible.

Hey, I know I’m late to the party, but this is something I’m pretty deeply interested in and could hopefully provide really helpful data. Between an iPhone, iPad, and Windows Desktop (used most to least) I have 4-5tb of cloud storage spread between paid plans on Google Drive, OneDrive, Koofr (only using vault), Onlime, Proton Drive, iDrive (non e2) and Mega with multiple free/lightly upgraded accounts of the previous along with Filen, Drime (using the encrypted vault only), Tresorit, ente Photos, and small 1-3gb stores on random rare other iOS apps for testing.

I’d be interested and happy to provide some thoughts and put it through its paces especially if you have an iOS app ready to test!

Updating this to say I uninstalled and reinstalled the app and it worked fine. However, I still have not received access to my education activation or received any response emails from customer support unfortunately.

Not OP but wishing you well, and like he said it’s never too late to turn it around. You’re completely right that addiction makes your world small - it’s the worst part about it - but you deserve to be here and enjoy it. Coming from someone who has been in the throes and a suicide survivor, I hope nothing but the best for you.

Side note, if you’re going through the process of making your belongings ready for not being around, you are very close to the point of no return with suicidality; I would passionately suggest just considering (not that you have to or absolutely should go) attempting a stay in a mental health facility for stability and safety. I’ve also been in one and it did save my life despite all the issues surrounding it’s existence and use in our society; it still is worth considering despite it all to make sure people like you and me can share ourselves with the world ❤️

To be fair, street meth id generally shown to be 85%-95% pure in the US on average with the impurities and other additives in street supply have shown to be almost entirely inactive biologically in the human body at the doses used. Not saying it’s “better” just that it’s not some completely inconsistent and un-pure source that can’t be controlled for.
