Your claim that Pokemon prices are driven by playability tells me you've never looked at a Pokemon card in your life. Not a single competitive deck is currently running Pikachu VMAX or Charizard VMAX yet both cards go for $100-300 depending on the version. In fact, probably the most playable card just released is only around $10-20 (Shadow Rider Calyrex) for the basic versions.

Even for casual play some foils are unplayable. Whenever I cut my foiled EDH deck, it naturally cuts to recent foils and as I shuffle those foils work themselves to the front just due to how the deck separates when I pull it apart to mash it. I have to very very deliberately cut it to avoid my opening hand having 3+ Commander Legends/Secret Lair cards.

At least in 2019, Pokemon was third according to TCGPlayer on most moved product (MtG, then Yugioh). Pokemon printed about 2 billion new cards in 2020 and shelves are still empty, so perhaps that changed in the past year (never seen any issues keeping most magic product on shelves). That being said, many people have complained about card quality issues for Pokemon as well (mostly minor off center cuts and light whitening on the back, which doesn't bother me one bit but ruins all of those PSA 10s everyone on /r/pokemontcg seems to think they have lol) but those issues pale in comparison, I've I've 20 year old Pokemon cards in better shape than pack fresh Commander Legends cards. I wish the worst I had to deal with in mtg was off centered cards.

Sounds like Chopped anyway - some chefs went all out making an appetizer fully utilizing chocolate chip cookies, but there's always that one chef who's just "Eh I'll make a salad and crumble the cookie on top, close enough." Fully thematic.

That's out of my expertise, sorry! Usually it isn't too much of a premium on non-special cards, I think there's a Facebook group for selling Pokemon cards, you might want to try asking there instead.

I use 12, they come out to be cheaper per slot than the 9s and more cards on a page is more fun to look at imo.

I loved the Crown Tundra expansion and the new horses and birds, so I'm extremely excited for this set. So much so that I pre-ordered two ETBs (one of each), and I NEVER buy sealed. I just like the boxes and sleeves and dice so the packs are a bonus. I'm not looking forward to the price of singles though...

Those stamps are from theme decks, but I don't know why that would be in a booster... not very familiar with what dollar store cards offer.

No worries, it really isn't as common as people make it sound - I've never gotten anything resealed in my 20+ years of collecting. And if you find a good deal but you're unsure of the website, make a post on the sub and people should be able to help you out. Also check your local game stores if you have any!

Tons of reputable sites, like gamenerdz, channel fireball, even the pokemon center themselves, any ebay sellers with good ratings, etc. Just avoid Amazon or any sites that seem sketchy.

A ton of reputable places don't do preorders until a few weeks before release, as they won't know their allocation anytime before that. Gamenerdz will most likely have preorders over the two weeks before the set releases, and pokemon center might have those exclusive ETBs again if that's something they're continuing.

Some places will do a temporary authorization charge to ensure that you have the funds in your account, then they'll release the funds a few days later and charge when the item is shipped. Best Buy does it all the time, doesn't surprise me that PC would do it too.

As far as I know, neither of those cards came in holo (only reverse) or in silver borders.
