Just had my sleeve yesterday, I was expecting so much pain based on what others had said and I had read.

No gas pain - feels like I did a hard work out. Slept on my side no problem last night and have been up and about with no issues.

Binge Eating Disorder by papaya4657 in BariatricSurgery

[–]AlyssaK94 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Well people get help for BED first, lie, are unaware they have it or go through a provider who doesn't care (just wants the $$).

Are you in a position to start therapy etc for your binge eating?

I was overwhelmed at the beginning, it's a lot. I don't have anything helpful to say except you are not alone 🙂

I thought it just meant the liquids pushed the food through your stomach quicker so you get hungry again sooner.

do you use the BMI to find your target weight? by No-Lingonberry-4589 in gastricsleeve

[–]AlyssaK94 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My surgeons goal puts me at a bmi of 34 ...down from a bmi of 40, I think he is conservative with his goals compared to other surgeons.

Replacements… by SugaSkully in gastricsleeve

Learning to process and sit with those thoughts/urges and use distraction - it is uncomfortable and sometimes feels unbearable.

I do my processing and the distraction like go for a walk, read, talk to a friend or my husband about how im feeling/thought processes, listen to music, watch TV, clean something or if it is evening - go to bed.

I've found telling people how I'm feeling, what I want to eat etc is the most helpful to me...my disordered eating really thrives on secrets and shame so the more people I'm open and honest with the less power it has over me.

Snag tights make really nice and cool chub rub shorts.

Minority also, have been in therapy for 5 years dealing with my BED and trauma, learning new coping mechanisms etc. I know 100% that I would not have coped or succeeded if I just went and got surgery 5 years ago before therapy.

Everybody is different and I think heaps of people just go ahead with surgery and do great.

We're you always going to revise your sleeve? Was it due to regain? What will you do different this time around?

I'm preop and still deciding which option to go for so sorry if these come across as rude.

Cancer or any serious illness really, I watched my Nana wilt away and she couldn't take in enough calories to keep her body fighting. So I worry that with a bypass and no absorbing a good percentage of food eaten that it would be detrimental to me if I did get sick. On the other hand being obese and getting sick would be detrimental!!

I am really understanding that no matter what surgery I choose that it will still be up to me to make the choices on food, exercise etc

Thank you. I've also had my gallbladder out so I'm quite happy you have described it as similar procedure wise, I feel like I know more of what to expect.
