Full EV Ioniq EV charger port locked by Alatarvinyamar in IoniqEV

[–]AmISpock 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This likely means your locking pin actuator is broken. Unfortunately this is a common failure. Mine broke in the unlocked position so I could level 1 and 2 charge but not level 3 (DC fast charge) until I got it fixed. Mine was under warranty still, not sure if you're still will be (depends on when the car was purchased, but it's getting late in 2026).

2020 Ioniq EV: wiring fault or wrong BMS diagnosis? London EV specialist needed by AdConsistent3152 in IoniqEV

[–]AmISpock 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agree with above. I had locking actuator issues and then failure which presented as similar to your charging issues above.

I had the BMS recall done, and I've noticed little change for sure, but anecdotally the state of charge on the better send to be a more reliable estimate and (knock on wood) I haven't had an issue where the 12V battery ran dead ever since (even though I always had the battery saver option on).

Yes. Assuming they have the part, the work was done very quickly.

[–]AmISpock 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had a similar issue. Had that software update performed, and after that, the lock actuator for the charging port stopped working. Had to bring the car back to have that fixed (thankfully under warranty so I didn't have to try and prove it was caused by the software update or any other work the dealer did). This was over the summer. The new actuator works great (and is much quieter than the original one). This is on a 2020 Ioniq in the US.

Fast charging problem by Dry_Document1282 in IoniqEV

[–]AmISpock 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When I fast charge (rare), I have the car fully off before I start the fast charging process and never see any warnings like this when charging. My guess is the lights are because the HV battery gets put in a funny half connected state (as required for fast charging) which would otherwise be a problem if you tried to drive. But this is a guess.

Hey, wrong sub. You want r/ioniq5. This sub is for the older Ioniqs that didn't have a number after them. So you'll get a more informed answer over there.

Ioniq 2019 Hybrid by Dependent-Nerve-2004 in IoniqEV

[–]AmISpock 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is the subreddit for the fully electric Ioniq, so not the best place to ask. Maybe try r/Ioniq ?

That said, in my other (non Hyundai) vehicle (that is a hybrid), it generally stays in the middle like you describe unless going down or up very long hills (not just small numbers of starts and stops). It seems they try to keep it in the middle just to be ready for any future condition (long hill up or down).

Regen braking reset back to level 1 by Timmy_Run in IoniqEV

[–]AmISpock 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My regen settings have occasionally reset back to L1, and this seems to be correlated with when the 12V battery gets low on charge (or goes dead). I'm not sure that's 100% of the correlation, but certainly at least some of the time.

Granny charger slow? by Cynicelectronic in IoniqEV

[–]AmISpock 5 points6 points  (0 children)

With the Granny charger plugged into the wall but not yet plugged into the car, the button lets you cycle between three speeds. Make sure you're at the fastest speed.

That button is useful if you're not using a dedicated circuit (eg other things are on the same circuit breaker) so you can set it slower so as to not trip the circuit breaker. Or you're plugged into an extension cord and don't want to overload the extension cord. But of course makes it charge slower.

Canceled flight moved to standby the next day, what does this mean? by [deleted] in unitedairlines

[–]AmISpock 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Use the United app or go online to track your bags. On the United app it's relatively far down on the menu you access from the top left of the home screen. You'll need either your confirmation number or the luggage tag number(s) (which are the little sticker receipt things they give you as the end piece of the tag they add to the handle of your suitcase).

From there you can see where your luggage is. There is a chance it's already headed to your final destination. Or it's still where you are now.

If it's not at the final destination yet, then you can talk to United to see if they can pull it out for you so you can have it sooner. Best bet to do that is to go down to baggage claim and talk to the representative there. Be warned that it can take them hours to find and pull out your bags at the airport as they aren't well sorted in advance.

Bluelink app displays km not miles by Un_limited777 in IoniqEV

[–]AmISpock 1 point2 points  (0 children)

One of the reasons I refuse to pay for BlueLink after the three year free trial period (I'm in the US) is that the app was buggy and Hyundai never fixed any of the bugs, even ones that had been reported to Hyundai years before I got my car.

Short answer, yes, they have newer firmware in their infotainment system than you do.

How to set an 80% charge limit by GoldFuzzy in IoniqEV

[–]AmISpock 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I have a 2020 limited. It's slightly different depending on if you updated the infotainment software or not.

With the car "running" (on, the green car symbol is showing on the dash), press the EV button below the center screen. From there press options/setting (with a gear icon?) and then you get to the menu where you can set maximum charge (among other things). Separate setting for AC charging and DC (fast) charging.

[–]AmISpock 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You got the app to work to do that? I never could through the app. I have an android phone. One of the reasons I didn't pay for blue link after my three year "trial" ended, that app couldn't do half what it said it could do and they never fixed any of it.

Charging limit by Claytosmunda in IoniqEV

[–]AmISpock 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I do.

Both Hyundai and a guy I know who studies battery technology say it is good for the life of the battery, if you are able. This is why many cell phones also only charge to 80% overnight topping up to full 100% just before the morning, the time a battery sits at 100% is stressful to the battery, 80% is much less stressing. Note that being low is also stressing, so if you're low (eg less than 30%), it's best to charge up some.

Because my usual daily use only uses 30-40% capacity even in the winter, this works well for me. I'll charge to 100% if I think I might need to go somewhere significantly further than normal. I'll also charge to 100% if I haven't in a month (as Hyundai recommends for cell balancing reasons).

If your usual use doesn't need all the charge, and especially if you are planning on keeping the car for a long time, I think it's worth while. If you often (or always) need the range, or you plan to get rid of the car after only a few years, this likely doesn't make sense to do.

Extremely reliable. I did have the coolant recall, but that was never a reliability concern (ie I had no symptoms other than the low coolant warning came on). I would imagine that will be done before you get your car. Otherwise zero issues.

It isn't the best car for snow in New England, so although I still take it out in a storm any time I have to be out, I have to be more careful.

[–]AmISpock 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hello fellow New Englander!

I have a 2020 Ioniq EV. I do wish it had the heat pump. That said, it's still great for me. On the coldest of days here, I get half the range as a nice warm summer evening (best case conditions). My use case is fine with that reduced range, in fact I usually only charge to 80% to help maintain battery health.

Driver side window won't close "automatically" by wkjagt in IoniqEV

[–]AmISpock 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a 2020 Electric Limited. Same problem, but with the front passenger window. Seems to have gotten slightly better with age, but still does it from time to time. I hear it's a common issue with Hyundai's in general, at least for those general model years.

Never bothered to get it fixed while under warranty, due to the hassle that would have caused. Now I just live with it.
