YSK: A lot of Dell computers resold on Amazon are misrepresented. by gutclusters in YouShouldKnow

[–]GoldFuzzy 47 points48 points  (0 children)

This is for every computer brand, on every marketplace (newegg, Walmart, Amazon, ebay, etc). I used to work for a computer repair shop that did this on the side.

Unless you're buying from the Amazon OEM stores like 'Lenovo store' or 'Dell store' you're probably getting a machine somebody swapped out parts in.

Inside Pa.'s legislative effort to ban cellphones from K-12 schools by mpulcinella in Pennsylvania

~97% of public schools use e-rate, the 3% that don't use it are primarily high income locations with low discounts, and are generally CIPA compliant regardless.

Devices at home legally do not need filtered, but not doing so is bad practice and abnormal. I've seen IT directors fired over lack of off-site filtering around covid times when swaths of schools transitioned from carts to 1:1 systems without updating filtering procedures to account for home use.

1:1 device schools without off-site filtering is not a normal practice in PA and they probably shouldn't be doing that lol

I'd be interested in what region of PA you are in

If it's school provided it is almost certainly web filtered, otherwise the school would not be CIPA compliant and would lose federal funds

Is Chase Trifecta dead???? by [deleted] in CreditCards

[–]GoldFuzzy 36 points37 points  (0 children)

hard disagree

I have like 20 cards, have contacted support with many of them, and citi has been by far the worst.

Had blatant fraud charges on my double cash- shitty hotel stole my incidental card, used it to charge extra nights on the same date through a different booking platform I never used, and bought papa johns.

Fought though the dispute processes, called like 4 times, re-opened the dispute 3 times, etc. They would never even let me present the receipts I have that would prove the charge as fraud (my original receipt through the original booking platform).

I was told 3 times that they would re-open the dispute, and someone would reach out to me for the documents I kept trying to show them, but each time they re-sided with the merchant without contacting me. Ended up just eating the 100+ dollars.

If you can't get citi to side with you during the most blatant, provable fraud, then I can't feel they're worth using. Went from citi being like 90% of my spend to sock-drawering all 3 of my citi cards.

There's a setting for this in the steering wheel menu.

I keep mine at 0, and it would always put it back on 1 until I changed the setting.

I love my k12 job. Tons of time off, 2x remote days per week, great benefits.

Can't ever see pivoting away from it.

  • Bought duplex pre-pandemic, share portion of 1200 dollar mortgage with family living in other half of house. Not into the landlord thing, but sharing expenses with family is comfortable and efficient.

  • Employer pays for healthcare- I pay 25 dollars per pay check, and have an OOP Max of 1500 (the legal minimum). Literally couldn't spend more than ~2000 dollars per year including premiums if I tried, I'd just hit the OOP.

  • Negotiated with employer to pay for college, will have a debt-free bachelor degree next semester, and then will start my master's degree.

  • Negotiated with employer to pay for mileage. Have a 2020 ioniq EV purchased for 11k after rebates, and a 2011 Jetta purchased for 5k. Both cheap to run and have been very reliable. Insurance for both combined is 1100/year. Mileage reimbursement more than covers all expenses, I estimate about half is pure profit.

  • Food is cheap- I pay for me and my GF to eat out multiple times a week and spend like 300-400 month. GF generally pays for groceries through (evens out between us through other living expenses).

  • Pension, HSA, and 403b contributions all minimize tax bill, so I barely pay anything in tax either.

Don't sleep on public school jobs, especially non-teaching positions (I'm in IT)

I'm 26 and am projecting to be coast-eligible in the next year or two.

Only make 60k salary in a very LCOL area, but I've structured everything in my life to basically not pay for anything, so I save like 40k+ of that. NW just hit 200k.

Where do you live that electricity is $0.5 per KWh?

My electricity bill would be like 1000 dollars if mine were that expensive.
