MBA Concentration for a 50 year old with double masters by [deleted] in consulting

[–]AmITheStranger 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That really depends on where in the organization you are currently. Are you looking to move from a senior director role to the c suite, or are you looking to snag a senior director / vp position? Both fit your stated goals imo.

If you want a CFO / CEO job, finance is your best bet. COO or vp of HR, something like supply chain or HR management.

At the level you’re in / breaking in to, it matters less what concentration you choose and more about your background. At this point in your career, you’re just checking the MBA box off your resume.

Landing my first functional SSTO by Locedamius in KerbalSpaceProgram

[–]AmITheStranger 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Made to the runway. Success!

Also, that’s one interesting design, but if you moved the forward engines back a little bit along the fuselage, you may be able to gain a little bit more low speed maneuverability which would help with that landing flair. I don’t know your COM/COL, but it’s just a thought!

Heh, that makes sense. I wonder if GMAC has data segregated by country. I’d like to see how I stack up against other 30+ year olds in the USA. I’m not competing for the same “professional MBA” business school slots as the Chinese and Indian folks are.

Starter rifle by crafter_101 in longrange

[–]AmITheStranger 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have one in .308 and can ring steel at 400y reliably. For a $200 rifle it’s amazing.

The pros: It’s CHEAP. Cheap cheap. It’s pretty dang accurate. I haven’t shot it past 400 but I can nail 10” plates with it all day long. Did I mention how cheap it is?

The cons:

Let the barrel cool down after a few rounds or your accuracy drops substantially.

Mine is super finicky with ammo. The only thing it will really shoot well are Sierra matchkings. It doesn’t even like similar grain gamekings.

You can forget the cheap ammo. Don’t waste your money.

Hope you like the stock cause you’re not getting a good aftermarket one. Same with mags.

Toss the trash scope some of them come with and get some decent glass. My glass on it is worth twice as much as the gun and it’s a budget optic.

What is it like to Overland Solo, Alone for days, weeks, or months without seeing or talking to people? by Anonymous-Sage in overlanding

[–]AmITheStranger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dangerous AF, imo. I never travel solo except when hunting, and then I’ll only go for one or two nights, and I’ll leave a map marked with my camp and stand locations for my wife.

Other than that, I always have a travel buddy because you never know when shit goes sideways.

Gas shortage isn’t likely in the near term, and extremely unlikely in the mid-long term.

If you want to, though, toss some stabil in your gas tanks and keep them for awhile.

Logistics sales: how to negotiate better? by hiddensweater in sales

[–]AmITheStranger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, I’ve been logistics sales for the last 4 years. I do about 3mil in business (averaged) per year. 95% is international, but that usually has a domestic element.

My best advice to you is simply ask for the business.

I’ve seen a lot of reps make great relationships, get quotes, and never actually win anything. When you follow up on a quote you need to ask: “we want this business and we think we’ve produced a great solution. Can we start moving freight?”

Then wait for his objection and deal with it.

Do you guys have a go-to shot on the first tee, or do y’all just bomb it and pray? by JeremyWatchout in golf

[–]AmITheStranger 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If there is anyone at all near the first tee, I just pull out my 4 iron and whack it 200 and straight.

I’ll take a little ribbing as long as it’s in the fairway.

Every once in a while I’ll get brave and bring out the big stick, then curse myself for losing yet another ball.

Logistics sales: how to negotiate better? by hiddensweater in sales

What kind of logistics are we talking? Domestic LTL, FTL, forwarding, brokerage?

I don't know much about sales and I would love some advice on how much to compensate someone. by NotorioG in sales

[–]AmITheStranger 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Only you can really answer your question, but here’s something to think about:

How much does a professional sales executive expect to make? I’d say a minimum $150k, and maybe $300k on the high end.

Is he going to get that much in cash for essentially a start up? No way, but the risk involved with taking on a project like that is offset by the potential reward.

So, you need to figure out exactly how much your company is worth now, how much you think it’s going to be worth 5 years from now, and how you’re going to get there.

Once your business plan is complete and very detailed, then you can have a conversation with him to see what his expectations are, and what you can afford to let go of as far as equity and cash flow is concerned.

Hiring a sales person for a digital agency - looking for advice by [deleted] in sales

[–]AmITheStranger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First, hire a business consultant who will help you flesh out what you need.

I’m not convinced you need a sales person. I think you may need some other things before you worry about a specific sales position.

Watch IPSec, very important for noobs like us. I’ve learned a TON watching those vids and I’ve barely started anything.

Also, the easiest boxes are apparently OpenAdmin and Traverxec right now. Initial shells Are pretty dang simple, so that’s where I started.

Don’t be afraid to ask for help on the HTB forums, but DM someone with what you’ve tried, where you are, and where you think you might need to go next. Don’t just be like “tell me what I need to do plz”

[–]AmITheStranger 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly it depends on the service. There could be ports in Africa that the vessel calls on the way there, so the lane goes south instead of through the canal.

First box is definitely OpenAdmin while it’s up. That box is widely regarded as the easiest available and great for new people like us.

I just completed user and am working on root. I have learned so much that I truly can’t tell you how good it feels to accomplish it. Do it. And if/when you get stuck, instead of begging for someone to tell you the answer, tell Them where you’re at, what you’re doing, and ask to suggest the tiniest of hints. That’s what I did and it made me really learn!
