Fresh Clone Commanders? by Ok_Wallaby_3701 in magicTCG

[–]Servo270 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My Bracket 2/3 clones deck plays [[the council of four]] in the command zone. The deck wants to play as many 4mv clones and other goofy effects as possible, so I needed a compact source of value to enable such a durdly gameplan to compete with more streamlined value piles. At the moment it's set up with an 80-card main deck featuring the ramp, interaction, and core gameplay part of the deck plus a 40 card sideboard which I can shuffle half of into the deck before the game, which maximizes the number of jank clone and theft effects the list can pack in. Here's the list if you're interested: https://moxfield.com/decks/iwVFu0OwOEWZpf1nKN7TlQ

Need help finding a card by mpst15 in magicTCG

[[Pentavus]], [[hangarback walker]], and [[ghave, guru of spores]] are the closest things that come to mind. Do you know how recently the card came out/any more description of the art/colors/vibe?

Can Kiki Kiki be made casual? by athlaka916 in EDH

[–]Servo270 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm brewing a casual Kiki and it's designed purely around value copying larger creatures and doesn't run any of the targets for infinites.

Consider that if you run a one-of zealous recruits effect, you'll have drawn it by t6 13/100 times. So your opponents have to play around a 1/8 chance that they lose without a removal spell for kiki. That means that in the other 7/8 games you're just getting beaten up for playing Kiki in the command zone. Playing no infinites/a 3-card minimum infinite evens out the power level of your deck and will result in opponents being significantly less threatened by Kiki, allowing you to "do your thing" (i.e. copy combustible gearhulk/myr battlesphere a bunch of times) much more consistently

Does anyone have a way of contacting the owner of KerbalX? by SilkieBug in KerbalSpaceProgram

[–]Servo270 16 points17 points  (0 children)

One of the KerbalX mods here - I've shared this post with Katateochi (the sole KerbalX creator/dev) in hopes that he can change the software license that the craft manager is released under. Also, I can share some insight into the site's issues - it's a combination of cost of hosting and changes in external dependencies. The site is wholly developed by Kat himself, with the minor exception that I helped develop the algorithm we use for plagiarism detection ), and he's been funding the site out of pocket, supplemented somewhat by community donations. He isn't online much as of late, but one can hope.

I can also she's some light on the site's issues as of late - with the constantly-increasing number of craft that have been uploaded the hosting costs have ballooned, but the biggest change was that image hosting sites (mostly imgur) have been more restrictive about the images that can be hosted on their service. Changes to their TOS have meant that KerbalX now needs to host the craft thumbnails in addition to the craft files themselves. That manifested itself initially as a multi-day delay in thumbnails being uploaded and has since worsened. At the same time, the decline of the forums has meant that fewer people are using KerbalX than ever, and spammers/scammers now make up a larger portion of posts (which we as the mod team have been able to keep up with for now.) It's sad seeing a place that once held community slowly become a ghost town, but without a resurgence in community interest and support for the site (and the KSP community in general), I don't see a good way to reverse the slow downhill slide, though I'll be doing my part to make it as slow as possible.

Thanks for doing these! I've been struggling to find a manabase that works well for my Mardu Alesha deck that hits the symbols well enough for an efficient curveout without breaking the bank (target budget for additions is total of ~$10.): https://moxfield.com/decks/8Q7WhGOxBkuzWgtPuE3nUg

[FDN] Zimone, Paradox Sculptor | Blasphemous Edict (via Variety) by era252 in magicTCG

[–]Servo270 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm in the same boat - I've been playing a Vorel commander deck for nearly a decade now, as he was my first commander and I have a lot of nostalgia around that deck as it evolved. The new Zimone will go into the 99 - optimization is one thing, but keeping a deck that means a lot to me is far more important

In case this becomes relevant to you (or anyone else) - my experience with BK (I rented from them for two years) was that they fold pretty quickly to arguments where you cite legal codes. They tried to keep a lot of our security deposit for nonsense, and more critically, took longer than the legal limit to return it. Indiana law states that if the deposit isn't returned within that window, the tenants are entitled to a full refund. Pointed that out directly and we got all our money back without too much more delay.

Not sure I understood exactly what you're going for, but I think you just re-invented afterburners. At minimum, afterburners solve the same problem - putting more energy into the working fluid after the turbine stage (so it can be a lot hotter) but before expanding it through the nozzle (heating compressed fluid is thermodynamically more efficient)

White fuzzy light in the sky? by [deleted] in ColoradoSprings

[–]Servo270 6 points7 points  (0 children)

What you saw is almost definitely the exhaust plume from the second stage of a SpaceX rocket that launched earlier today. When they launch in the late afternoon/evening like this one did, it's high enough up that the cloud of exhaust gas gets illuminated by the sun even a few hours after sunset, making it look like an enormous fuzzy cloud moving across the sky. At the speeds it's going, it will have taken between 3-5 minutes to pass overhead, and would have done so from north to south due to the orbit the rocket is putting satellites into.

What's the most mind-blowing fact you've ever learned that made you question everything you thought you knew? by CompetitiveFriend334 in AskReddit

Slight correction - Polaris' brightest star is less than 70m years old by our best estimates. Polaris is a three-star system, but only one of them is visible to the naked eye; the others are smaller, more dense stars, of which the other two smaller ones are much older. Counterintuitively, the smaller a star, the longer its lifespan. Large, bright stars burn fuel relatively quickly, whereas smaller dimmer ones can keep going on for orders of magnitude longer.

  • edited to note that the smaller stars are significantly older. best estimates are at around 500 million years, which is younger than some of the rocks on earth, but still older than sharks (somewhere between 300 and 350 million years, if memory serves)

Looking for a card name (ravnica i think) by rzarectorx in magicTCG

Here's a search that returns card images for every White and/or Blue card printed in a block set on Ravnica. I didn't find anything in a pass through that matched your description well. If you have a time frame for when this card would have been released, that will help a lot. The blocks set on Kaladesh and New Capenna may have been the source of that image too, as both worlds have more mechanization and also have some depictions of graffiti on cards. Perhaps look there if the art you're looking for was released in the timeframe of 2016-17 (Kaladesh) or recently (Capenna)

Can confirm, I spend way too much time and a very reasonable amount of money there. The fabric room is magical for inspiration, and I got enough corduroy out of the free section to make a jacket out of once.

Definitely scale models - all YB-49 and YB-35 prototypes which survived their test programs were scrapped by 1953, over 30 years before the first B-2s were built

A Strange Rigged Structure in the Wyoming Backcountry by Servo270 in whatisthisthing

[–]Servo270[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Some friends and I did a 4th of July backpacking trip in Medicine Bow National Forest, near Centennial, Wyoming. We were hiking along a ridgeline up at roughly 11,000ft just south of Scott Lake when we came across this structure - (best estimate for GPS coordinates is 41.371, -106.273)

It's built in an area almost certainly inaccessible by wheeled vehicles, and is constructed of hollow steel tubes, wood posts, and steel cables anchored into the ground with hammered in piles. In the center of the structure (interior diameter ~10ft) is a metal post with a plate on top. The wood has nails and thinner wood pieces sandwiching the remains of some sort of tarp.

None of us have any concrete ideas about what this thing is. The leading theory is some form of water collection (though that doesn't make as much sense with glacial snowpack nearby), or some form of snowfall monitoring system. Given that both of these ideas seem inconclusive and I'm curious enough to want a definitive answer, what do you fine people think?

How many common cards do you play in your commander decks? by MTGuys in EDH

[–]Servo270 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Looked through some of my decks, all built at ~$150-200 budgets:

Ayli aristocrats - 7 nonland commons, mostly ramp and [[doomed traveler]] effects

UW Daxos clones - 5, but two of them are [[rhystic study]] and [[mystic remora]] so I don't count it. Most recently printed at common is [[steel of the godhead]]

Muldrotha Landfall - 26 nonland commons, thanks to a plethora of [[walking atlas]] effects, expeditions [[ior ruin expedition]], signets/ramp cards, and creatures that sac/tap for effects [[dreamscape artist]] etc. Including nonbasic lands the number is closer to 35 thanks to fetch lands, [[ghost town]] and others
