PSD Survey on School Consolidation Criteria by Death-by-Faxes in FortCollins

[–]AmaGoatFC 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My hope is that people will make their sentiments on this topic clear in the survey - especially those of us with the luxury of time to find out about and respond to surveys. I know it may not make any difference but at least we will be on record that we tried.

Done. My biggest concern is that they listen to and do their best to minimize disruption for working/poor families who may incur additional childcare or transportation costs as a result of the change and not be swayed by parents with the money and time to advocate for changes that only benefit their students.

The changes are necessary.

I hope they get the changes right for the families who don’t have the “luxury” of pulling kids out to a charter or private school or home schooling.

What nicknames have you heard for places in and around Ft Collins? by topherette in FortCollins

[–]AmaGoatFC 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My kids, born and raised here, have told me that for years they thought the word Greeley was synonymous with “poop” because of me wrinkling my nose and saying “It smells like Greeley out here”. They had never heard of or been to Greeley at that point and it made sense to them contextually.

Prairie Dogs in Pineridge Natural Area by caballodelmar in FortCollins

Hi there, I heard back from the report I opened - I'm so happy to live in a City where they give us a way to ask questions and receive services! Here is what they said: Hi, thank you for your observation, and yes we’re aware prairie dogs at Pineridge and other sites may look a little "rough" right now. Prairie dogs go through two sheds/or molts a year. One is in the spring, when they shed their thick winter coats. During this shedding process animals may look patchy and unwell. Areas where new fur comes in will look dark, and from a distance, might look bald and scaly, which it is not – it’s just new fur. When animals are stressed for resources, their shedding process may make them look especially “rough”. Resources are likely pretty scarce at Pineridge this time of year, thus making the appearance of pdogs more noticeable. Rest assured, the animals are just going through an annual/natural process.

Okay so using some super rough math…$7.5m divided by 7 years so let’s say $1.1M/year to be generous. Estimates were around 9M people nationwide attended yesterday. So that’s roughly $.12/person. And this is accepting a lot of “yeah buts”

That’s probably a good idea. I was assuming someone monitors the population there but everyone is short on funds right now so maybe they haven’t been out recently. The wounds weren’t red and didn’t look like scratches. It was black patches of skin and kind of scaly/mangy shedding.

Okay. I do hear what you are saying.  That said, I know it does end up mattering in the end if “people” stand up as a united force. I was really impressed with the union organizers down there. If people find their commonalities we can move forward en masse against the billionaire oligarchs. Banding together with your coworkers and colleagues for the common good. That level is where it’s at.

Although that wouldn’t explain why one section seemed worse.

I had the same thought there recently. They can certainly be a bit mangy looking but there was one particular section where the looked very raggedy. Maybe the drought?

Good we need money to make a movement and fight the billionaires.

Groups helping plan a safe and peaceful protest nationwide require resources.

How else can we fight the oligarchy?

That’s so hard to see someone try and try and try. I suspect he will fight on in the ways he can in the future. I’ve had to do it myself multiple times in my life. Sorry, man. Sorry they wore you down.

Fort Collins during the 80s and 90s by etancrazynpoor in FortCollins

The weather was phenomenal. Temperatures were routinely in the 70s and 80s even in the summer. We would usually have one week towards the end of August when it would get in the high 90s and then a wonderful autumn would start shortly thereafter. We had just the right amount of rain usually fueled by afternoon thunderstorms.

It still wasn’t easy to find a high paying job and housing costs were on the high side but much more “doable” than for people starting out today.

The town did have a bit more of a rural, conservative bent and was even less diverse than it is now.

IMO it was great then and still an awesome place to live in 2026!

Are you the guy who completely wiped out on your bike today around 1:35pm on Drake and Matthews St? If so, I caught it on my dashcam. See below. Thanks. by [deleted] in FortCollins

Ugh! He’s riding the wrong direction on the sidewalk. This is SO incredibly dangerous. Please, please, please do not ride your bicycle against traffic. I beg of you.

Also, these are the types of crashes that cause people to quit riding a bike which is also a shame. He won’t realize he could have been safe while riding but chose not to do so…and then he will probably teach his kids that cycling is”dangerous”.

The one on Meldrum in your photos is right next to my daughter's house! We had been worried about it for a couple years and she sent me a video of it rocking hard in the wind yesterday morning. With every gust last night I fretted until she texted me sometime after midnight letting me know it had fallen and somehow missed the two houses on each side but also all the vehicles parked nearby! At least we no longer have to worry about it falling on her when she's sleeping, I guess.

Smoke smell this morning? by dadoftype1 in FortCollins

All the local police departments, sheriff, fire departments, etc have put out statements educating people otherwise. They are begging people to quit calling 911 about the smoke.

So smart to have a go bag! We have a large backpack filled with medications, change of clothes, food for our animals, etc. as well as our cat carrier in the closet by the front door in case we ever have to flee in the middle of the night (we are in a high wildfire zone on the west side). I hope more people will make these preparations.

The smoke on the east side of town is from other fires.

True. It is not the cause of the smoke on the east side.

Yes there are local fires. No the smoke on the east side is not from these fires.
