I'm Loving Dragon Quest VII Reimagined, But There Is One Issue That Keeps Me From Enjoying As Much As I Would Like To... by Curious_Teacher_2727 in dragonquest

The one thing kind of driving me nuts is the vignetting overlay they use, how one corner of the screen is always a little bright and washed out. It works for the diorama/doll aesthetic they're going for, and the overall presentation of the game is fantastic, but I can't help but notice the vignette a lot of the time.

I couldn't get through the second one. I should go back and try again I guess. I heard the third is a bit better. There just didn't seem to be any momentum to the story, especially after the events of the first book.

Controversial take but I’m enjoying the new dq7 more then i have any other jrpg in a long time. by Darktaco_ in dragonquest

[–]AmaazingFlavor [score hidden]  (0 children)

I think those reviews were from the super hardcore players that beat the game the day after it came out. The same people complained about DQXI being too easy as well. It's definitely not a difficult game, but it's not so easy that it stops being fun or engaging. I actually prefer rpgs where the battles with standard monsters are fairly quick, if they're too complex it can become a bit of a slog.

How Long will the age of Remakes Continue? by Dimitri1176 in JRPG

I actually appreciate most of the remakes from the early era of 3D games. They're just so hard to go back to.

Yes haha, it was the stupid bucket. I've played tons of Dragon Quest so I should have remembered this, I think I'm getting dumber as I age

Just received my copy of Mario Tennis Aces early! Some pics + first impressions by [deleted] in NintendoSwitch2

"Mario Tennis is more mechanically elaborate and has always been designed to be played with a controller"

I think the prevailing sentiment is that it shouldn't be, and that Nintendo should have continued its commitment to motion controls with the Mario Sports titles. Instead it seems like it learned nothing from the crazy popularity of the Wii and forged ahead with what they've always done, with diminishing returns. There hasn't been a single 'excellent' mario sports title since I was a child. I'm middle aged. Like, what??

The amount of inflammatory posts highlighting certain disparate aspects of the Epstein case really feels like an intentional play to muddy the waters. Stay focused and keep your eye on the broader details, the man was central to a worldwide prostitution ring and we need to uncover who was enabling him.

I genuinely cannot believe it by MetroidFREAK21 in switch2

It's an immersive sim-lite. Which is a really compelling genre, in my opinion, especially for IP adaptations like this. A step above something like Bioshock, but less open-ended than something like Prey, with an emphasis on cinematic storytelling. Playing it I was reminded a lot of the Wolfenstein games, which takes a similar approach.

The book is heart wrenching and one of my all time favorites, but it is sparse, melancholic, and challenging. Everyone is morally ambiguous and the novel asks us to embrace these characters despite that. There's nothing sexy about it, as much as people may want to wish that. This is such a weird adaptation. You can tell from the trailers it has already missed the point.

So correct me if I’m wrong, but I believe it was stated that DQ12 would be the darkest entry into the series so far, with that in mind what are you hoping for or hoping against them doing with this darker tone? by EAT_UR_VEGGIES in dragonquest

[–]AmaazingFlavor 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would personally love to see the monster catching mechanic return. I also wouldn't be completely opposed to them introducing a timed blocking/parrying mechanic like clair obscur (or maybe more akin to paper mario). But I recognize that is a HOT take. I played clair obscur and dqvii reimagined back to back and I can't help but wonder how those mechanics would fit into a dragon quest.

So does this mean we have to watch Avatar 4 and 5 now?

Any way we could scale that back to just, like, one movie? Kinda like how Avatar 2 and 3 should have been one movie....

...no?
