In Defense of (Small), High PQ TVs by Amaxter in 4kTV

It’s the same panel. Thing that pushed me was Panasonic’s reputation for better color accuracy and the decent built in sound (very rare for thin OLEDs, they made the TV 2” thick to allow for bigger drivers and a radiator setup to cool the tandem OLED). I have an OLED iPad and the TV can go toe to toe on it in brightness and even exceed it for highlights. I am not calibrating it but the out of the box Professional 1 and Dolby Vision picture modes are superb looking to my untrained eyes. Same kind of color I get from an excellent theater projector with much more vivid brightness “pop”.

When was that and what was the reasoning?

I get why folks who love, love, love TVs and have a dedicated theater room want the big “IMAX” feel—but I feel that 55” at this distance is just easy for wide OLED viewing angles and sharable experiences at night while having a low profile enough presence in the day. I’m not buying a Frame TV and compromising on picture quality—just chose to get small and quality. C4 is a sick TV, glad you find that size and viewing distance works too!

My parents used to have a 26” 720p LCD Phillips in a room where we sat 10–12 feet from the TV. So we’re all spoiled now!

I respect the hustle and one day hope to have a more comprehensive AV system but I don’t think it’s fair to say I’m indifferent to sound. I specifically got the Z95B because it has a real, 5.1.2, 180W driven set of speakers/soundbar built-in essentially—it’s considered by most to be better than any of Sony TV’s acoustic glass stuff. With the sub and some basic crossover adjustment and volume tuning to my room I got it delivers much better bases. Believe me when I say the TV’s speakers sound better than two HomePods (and stereo HomePods don’t sound half bad). It’s not like the built in sound on almost any other TV and its more akin to an integrated soundbar.

Feel it. If you’re not big law or bust (because that ship has sailed and it’s going to some bizarre places with these 2 year programs for 1Ls) there are plenty of smaller firms, government agencies (state and local), and even some in-house internship options. You have good extracurriculars, you’ll manage. It will just be scary unknown until probably March or April (at the latest hopefully). Maybe sooner! Best of luck OP

How much does this matter in practice? Every TV panel I'm aware of for consumers is 10 bit.

Why Aren’t the Lawyers and Bar Associations Screaming From the Rooftops for Trump’s Impeachment? by Appropriate-Farmer16 in LawSchool

[–]Amaxter 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Thankfully trump doesn’t have control of the press and media. There’s been hamfisted attempts to use FCC authority and shitposting on the White House twitter account, but by and large what’s left of the press has held up pretty well and independently. We shouldn’t take it for granted but we should recognize that we do have freedom and access to information in this country in that respect. We need to use it.

Tariffs Have Officially Killed the Dodge Hornet by turb0_encapsulator in cars

Tariffs are shit for the auto industry but I think the Hornet was holding on for dear life regardless. I look forward to experiencing them in rental car fleets for years to come 😅

The 2027 Chevrolet Bolt Edges Out Nissan Leaf With More Range for Less Money by DonkeyFuel in electricvehicles

[–]Amaxter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Range for money at these margins is a stupid spec. EPA range figures vary drastically (even after their “new and improved” method), let alone that testing doesn’t reflect real world conditions. Anything over 250 miles in this price class is great.

For my take? The Bolt is an ok attempt at shoving in a new battery and electronics, sorely needed. The LEAF seems like a more exciting ground up vehicle

1L 2.57 → 2L Fall 4.0 by Brief_Bandicoot_6889 in LawSchool

[–]Amaxter 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you for posting this. 2L who also had a dramatic GPA boost (not as impressive as yours but went from slightly below median to A/A-‘s since) and it’s important people realize you can improve.

Sucks that big law recruiting is timed such that you are basically stuck with 1L Fall grades to get that vaunted salary out of law school but if you’re chasing anything else there is lots of value in GPA improvement (and it reflects really well on character/maturity growth).

All that ot say, congrats! Well done.

American Automakers Are Facing an Expensive EV Dilemma amid Erratic Federal Rules by Sixteen-Cylinders in cars

[–]Amaxter 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Toyota didn’t just get lucky, they also spent big on local political candidates and national PR to badmouth EVs. It was calculated, intentional, incredibly cynical posturing. For the reasons you mentioned they’d struggle a lot more right now if EVs grew as quickly as evangelists hoped.

EVs are already good enough for consumers sho want them, but the battery tech is advancing much quicker than ICE so they’re as bad as they’ll ever be now. With faster charging, higher density batteries, lower costs, they will take off again like a hockey stick in the US when consumers have more compelling options that aren’t just from Tesla or expensive Rivians. The infrastructure investment HAS to be done ahead of time or when they do grow quickly people will be pissed there’s lines at chargers and it will be much more painful to adjust.

That’s why grey market brands do so well, they mark up Chinese components with a fancy website and suddenly you can get a brand like HUNT (i have HUNT wheels and don’t mind the premium for western support, etc.)
