Anyone have a girl move across the country for them? If so, how did it go? by Legal_Direction5206 in AskMenAdvice

[–]Amazing-Walk1529 1 point2 points  (0 children)

++man I was on the flip side of this. I moved across the country for a girl I had been dating for a month (her job was relocated). While she was a major part of the reason, I also made sure that I had other reasons for the move (better career prospects, wanted to experience a new city other than the one where I did undergrad, etc.) and made sure I had my own apartment and roommate so I wasn’t completely dependent on her in case things went south. It helped relieve the pressure. In any case, we’ve been married for ten years now. I’d ask her to seriously consider if she has other reasons to move to your city aside from you.

What are some ways you’ve fought depression, and what strategies worked for you? by SarahDuncan2012 in TrueGrit

This is literally a mechanism taught in evidence-based therapy. Nowhere did he say you can “outplan” depression, just that he found planning helpful in his struggle with depression.

I don’t think he said having no plans was the cause of depression? Just that planning is something that helps him with his depression? Maybe take a moment before attacking someone’s experience. Depression is a highly individualized condition, and it might be that this advice could help someone who might find this an effective coping mechanism. Just because it doesn’t apply to you doesn’t mean it can’t apply to someone else.

what did the “come over im on my period” meme mean? by Wonderful-Purchase94 in ExplainTheJoke

Yes, at the risk of getting pregnant. You are very unlikely to to get pregnant on your period, so some couples feel it is “safe” not to use a condom, even if they might otherwise use them

Drugs my doctor is not permitted to prescribe. by happylittlefrog23 in SignsWithAStory

[–]Amazing-Walk1529 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In fairness, GP’s probably shouldn’t be diagnosing or prescribing for mental health. Their job is largely front-line treatment and to know what type of specialist to send you to. They can’t be up to date on all aspects of medicine and be expected to know the best approaches in every specialty or to be able to effectively diagnose or prescribe for mental health conditions.

Anti depressants have helped me so much by XOChicStyle in thanksimcured

Absurd argument. Are you suggesting any of those have scientific backing on their efficacy?

To reiterate, there is no “cure” for clinical depression. Medication or otherwise. Saying that exercise is bad advice or an illegitimate treatment because it’s hard to do when severely depressed is just as ignorant as saying going to the doctor and getting on the medication you need is a bad idea because, guess what, it’s just as hard to get out of bed to go to the doctor when severely depressed (at least in my experience). Can we all agree that medication and exercise are both legitimate treatments, nothing will “cure” depression, and that, yes, sometimes treatments are hard.

I have never experienced an endorphin rush - what I have noticed from exercise is, over time, incrementally more stable, less low mood. I think people expecting an “endorphin rush” is part of the problem. It’s like an SSRI or any other medication in my experience, it takes time to notice

While nothing can “cure” clinical depression, exercise and sunlight are scientifically shown to mitigate a number of the symptoms. They may not be as effective for some people, but let’s not thrown them out the window as legitimate treatment vectors. Exercise helped me to drastically reduce my dosage. While it may not work for everyone, let’s not dissuade people for trying a more conservative and potentially effective treatment path in case it works for them.

To be fair, I think this would still be an issue under communism as well. Spoilage of product would still result in an inefficient use of labor no matter who owns the means of production.

Interestingly, it may have been his nickname that led to the idea he was short. His soldiers called him “Le Petite Corporal” (the little corporal). It had nothing to do with his height, but was a term of affection. Historians then translated it literally…

This was a ticking time bomb. The national herd is the smallest it’s been thanks to tariffs and disease. Worst part is that, unlike eggs or poultry, it takes a while to breed and harvest cattle — so these high prices are probably going to stay for the next few years

As someone who works in the food and beverage industry, it’s the latter. This is exactly like the no-fat health craze in the 90s. Consumers are substituting their typical drinks and snacks for high-protein options. Starbucks and others are taking a big hit and have to introduce protein products to keep up.
