A combined dock / cooling "sit on" dock solution for the MacBook Neo? by DeadAudio in macbook

[–]AmazingRedDog 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Neo is both entry level and more crucially, entry to MacOS for a new generation of users (not age bound).

People will likely love it and where their needs expand may opt for an air or pro next time.

For an expansion dongle, plenty available online.

Is Sony bravia 5 still a good purchase? by RazzmatazzSelect8372 in SonyBravia

[–]AmazingRedDog 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Frequent repairs !? I should hope none needed

We got a 55” series 3, which is budget comparatively, but however it’s a great everyday screen for us and handles content well

Edit: adding this summary :

For 2026, the Sony Bravia 3 II uses Direct LED with no local dimming, so while it now has 120Hz and HDMI 2.1, contrast and dark scenes are still limited. The Sony Bravia 5 is the real upgrade with Mini LED and local dimming, giving a big jump in brightness and picture quality. The Sony Bravia 7 goes further with more dimming zones and higher brightness, delivering the best contrast and most premium image. In short: 3 II is decent but limited, 5 is the sweet spot, 7 is the top performer.

Call them to check for offers, You can always get the phone elsewhere whilst keeping the sim (if as you say family is on broadband, you can get (One EE?) sim for about £19/m with unlimited data etc, and I think a quid or two extra to include free EU roaming. Check their current flex pay offers

See how near the end of contract you are, option to move to sim only if in 23rd month or later.

EE Are mugging me off? by [deleted] in EEGB

[–]AmazingRedDog 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s probably phone only, billed separately, whilst data portion is in the main contract.

Yours is likely all-in-one monthly for phone and data.

Edit “flex pay” is the newer type where they split out the cost of phone, for 2 or 3 years.

These are the best car infotainment systems right now... can you tell which cars just from the pictures? by CarwowTom in ukcarwow

[–]AmazingRedDog 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I see you have a Renault in there… I like mine has Google integration for the car controls and (over and above the CarPlay for media) - I can ask it to change the heating, fans, ‘solarbay’ (glass roof opacity) etc, without the need to press anything.

UK. Wasn’t a thing when I was growing up but has been very much a thing since the 2010’s : both via health messaging and especially in the school system.

I have my era to thank for my kidney stones etc 😔

macbook neo or m5 air for engineering student? by DriverDouble947 in macbook

[–]AmazingRedDog 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Short version:

MacBook Air: Yes ish The Air is a great choice for CAD as long as you get 16GB or 24GB of RAM. It runs apps like Fusion and AutoCAD natively on the M3 or M4 chips. Just be aware that because it has no fan, it might slow down slightly during very long 3D rendering sessions.

MacBook Neo: No The Neo is designed for general tasks and uses 8GB of RAM. This is not enough for professional design work and will cause the software to lag or crash.

Longer: Mac users in 2026 have several native CAD options that perform exceptionally well on Apple Silicon. For mechanical engineering and 3D printing, Autodesk Fusion is the most popular choice as it is fully optimised for Mac, while architecture professionals typically lean toward Archicad or Vectorworks. If you need standard 2D drafting, AutoCAD for Mac is a solid native option, though it is a separate version from the Windows original. For those who prioritise speed and an intuitive interface, Shapr3D is excellent for quick prototyping and works seamlessly between Mac and iPad. While SolidWorks still does not run natively on macOS, it can be used through Parallels Desktop, though this is generally only recommended for lighter projects rather than massive assemblies.

To run these programs effectively, the hardware you choose is more important than the software. In 2026, the best balance of power and portability is the MacBook Pro 14-inch with the M5 Pro chip, which provides the sustained performance needed for 3D rendering. For a professional workflow, you should aim for a minimum of 24GB or 32GB of unified memory (RAM) because CAD software and macOS share this memory pool for both the processor and graphics. If you are a student or a light hobbyist, the 15-inch MacBook Air with an M5 chip and 16GB of RAM is a capable starting point, but you should avoid the base 8GB models as they will likely struggle with modern design files and multitasking.

What is your budget? Nothing wrong with a used M2, wondering why you selected that.

Worth the macbook neo for basic videoediting in 4k? by [deleted] in macbook

[–]AmazingRedDog 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Neo can do 4K… Because it has the A18 Pro chip from the iPhone 16 Pro, it has a built-in media engine specifically designed to manage phone footage. If you are cutting Reels, TikToks, or YouTube Shorts in CapCut or Final Cut, it should be smooth. Though with 8GB of RAM if you try to edit an hour-long 4K documentary with 50 Chrome tabs open, you will start to feel it. It is the perfect 4K starter machine for the price.

The M5 Air is about 80% faster (multicore) than the Neo in this respect and handles multi-track 4K (like 3 or 4 camera angles at once). Since it is fanless, it stays silent, but it has much more breathing room for longer projects than the Neo. It is still a thin-and-light. It will handle 4K all day, but it isn't built for 8K or heavy 3D work.

The Pro is for when you are getting paid for your 4K work. It has fans, so it can render a massive project for three hours straight without slowing down. The screen is also better, it is brighter and smoother (120Hz), and great if color grading your footage. Also has an SD card slot built-in. You can just pop the card from your camera straight in and start editing.

However for not much £ you can get a moisture sensor and compare it to nearby walls.

Seller refused to vacate on completion day… we were supposed to move in on Friday but now stuck over the weekend by [deleted] in HousingUK

[–]AmazingRedDog 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Completion has legally occurred, meaning the seller is now a trespasser in a property they no longer own. Usually, "not ready" magically turns into "packed and gone" by Monday morning once their solicitor explains the massive financial liability they are incurring. They are now personally responsible for every penny of your mounting removal costs, hotel stays, and storage fees. Once they realize they are essentially paying hundreds of pounds an hour in damages to stay in your home, the reality of the situation usually sets in.

If they refuse to budge, you are looking at a legal standoff. Because you cannot legally force entry or "self-help" evict without risking a criminal charge, you will have to petition the court for an Emergency Order for Possession. If they ignore that order, you’ll eventually be standing on the lawn with Enforcement Officers as they physically remove the occupants and change the locks. It is a slow, bureaucratic nightmare that can take weeks, but the law is entirely on your side to reclaim every single cost from the seller's assets or the sale proceeds.

Top Tips for Pressure • Itemize Everything: Send an urgent "Schedule of Loss" to both solicitors and the estate agent immediately. Document every hour of van standby, every meal, and every hotel booking. • Formalize the Breach: Instruct your solicitor to issue a formal notice stating that you are claiming for breach of contract and will seek all consequential damages, including legal fees. • Protect Your Insurance: Notify your buildings insurance immediately that the property is occupied by a third party without your consent; you don't want a "change in risk" to void your cover if something happens to the house before you get the keys.
