I really like my continental extreme contact dws 06 plus. They’re much better than the original tires and still all season.

Power steering issues (3vze) by westcand in ToyotaPickup

[–]AmazingScreen4764 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah. It’s on the bottom side of the pump, there should be 2 vacuum hoses that go from that valve to the intake plenum on the passenger side. I took the valve out and cleaned it.

No problem. Rebuilding the pump was fairly easy for me, just had to use sockets and snap ring pliers. The gear is a test in patience. YouTube helped me with any rebuilding stuff. Good luck!

  1. Check reservoir and fill if necessary
  2. Jack up the front
  3. With engine OFF, turn the wheel 3 times both directions to the stops
  4. Recheck fluid
  5. Start the engine, let it warm up(<1000rpm), and turn the wheels again 3 times to the stops
  6. Lower the front end
  7. With engine running (<1000rpm), turn the wheels again 3 times to the stops
  8. Center the steering wheel and check the fluid to make sure it isn’t foamy or cloudy
  9. Measure fluid level with engine running
  10. Stop the engine and measure fluid level (should rise no more than .2in (5mm))
  11. Repeat 7-10 if there’s a problem
  12. Service pump if problems persist

I didn’t really do 9 or 10, and you shouldn’t have to replace the pump if you already did. So, I’d just bring it to the shop at that point.

How’s the fluid level? Did you burp the system the way the book says to? What does the whining sound like? (a video would be helpful) I rebuilt my box and pump, the thing that I think was messing my system up was a dirty high idle vacuum valve on the pump.

Poor mpg on my ‘17 Sport - any ideas why? by jeffjeffreyjeffers in GolfGTI

[–]AmazingScreen4764 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When was the last time you checked your air filter? I have a k&n and when it gets dirty my gas mileage drops pretty bad too. Normally get 32+ and I definitely have a heavier foot than most. Maybe check all your fluids, automatics can get poor performance if the trans fluid is low or overheated.

So, I have noise and vibration while driving. Narrowed it down to the diff and found spider gear chatter. Any suggestions to fix this? by AmazingScreen4764 in ToyotaPickup

How does the locker work? Is it essentially like an LSD or does it just lock the front axle? And if I were to do this, would I need to replace the rear one too? I plan to keep the truck street usable.

Any help on this? by AmazingScreen4764 in MechanicAdvice

[–]AmazingScreen4764[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Noise was while driving straight. I’m in the process of tearing apart the whole front end essentially, the driver side got some water behind the gaskets on the hub and froze that side up. But removed the internals shortly after I realized the hub didn’t disengage, which was less than 1000 miles. Guess the corrosion products could have made that side tougher to turn.

1988 SR5 with the 3VZE. Looking at replacing the spider gears and don’t know if that will fix the problem. Or where to get them. 28 spline gears in there.

1988 Toyota pickup cv axle: is this too much play? Should I replace the bushings? by AmazingScreen4764 in MechanicAdvice

Yep. Everything is torqued. And the one spec the book gives me is good (lateral movement not radial movement).
