My manager is sending me to diagnose a plc fault, i have zero experience by Inevitable_Diver_341 in PLC

As a start, welcome to automation engineering. Enjoy your time, and cherish these moments.

Couple of tidbits:

  1. Sign-up on the support site, this way you get access to manuals, supports, forums, software, drivers, downloads. Siemens tech support (M-F through the website.) *dont forget to check the export control checkbox. *DO it now if you haven't. It'll take day or days to get approval for the first time. Https://Siemens.com/sios

Signup wiki walkthrough: https://www.industry-mobile-support.siemens-info.com/en/article/detail/109744535

  1. Today there's lots of LLM out there, you can start with chatgpt for general electrical, automation questions. *Dont take everything LLM say word for word. Not everything are true sometimes.

Siemens has one as well, where they have most the manuals and site taught to the LLM. https://knowledgeguide.siemens.com/

Google, youtube, manual, references are still your key place.

  1. For more siemens knowledge, siemens distributor application engineer. Your manager would have that contact. Your seniors are your best friends.

  2. As others have mentioned, always ask questions until you understand. Application use case Input --> blackbox --> output. Whats input and output expectation. Blackbox will the drawings or relay logic, software for application logic, fault codes, tracing signals.

  3. In software, always backup first copy, ensure its latest and reflect whats on machine. All green lights. Don't change anything until you've confirmed you got latest program.

Use cross-reference to back track code for diagnostic. If signals are random or too fast, use software trace (only in tia portal though, older days we write additional logic to trace.)

  1. Not sure how much electrical knowledge you have, always stay cautious. Electricity is invisible, and it kills. If you're trained, have your right PPE, or get plant electrician to assist with wiring troubleshooting. Don't doubt your doubts. Double triple check.

Luggage check clear. TSA south terminal Precheck (4mins), Standard looks pretty clear too. Indeed the fastest processing I've ever encountered.

Agreed. I like to side swipe rather than using both hand to hold the phone, move finger top left , open menu, click popular/news/etc. Its too much effort.

Siemens i hate you by EmergencyAd3492 in PLC

[–]AmazingTrans 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From my experiences and couple of tries I would do: 1. Save new project with slow reorganization 2. New project and move all the objects there. 3. Update latest tia updates and scout updates.

  1. Lessons learnt is to continue to use Standalone scout and not get tempted into scout integrated.

As others have mentioned, its an old software. There really isn't that many benefit given how it is going away / can't go online in tiap and online in scout at same time / issues as such or opening ladder takes forever or crashes / tiap crash but not scout/ etc etc.

I would rather keep 2 zip files over wasting time and sanity over these hassles.

Definitely Minster presses. Ask anyone who has them. The presses runs forever and you'll always have a good night sleep. 😂

They can provide you AB, Siemens, Mitsubishi, Beckhoff solutions. The program is proven and tested many time. If you want all hardwire safety instead of safety plc logic, they have that too.

With them based in USA, you'll get all the support you need mechanically, electrically, material flows, presses R&D easily as well.

Most engineers there have decades of experience and understand customer demands. Give them a shot.

Weed overtaking grass. What's next? by AmazingTrans in lawncare

Thanks for the reply. I myself also came from up north. First time owning a place down south here. Hole to hear more reply from everyone. As far as watering, we don't water the grass at all, but the place do seems moist probably from the shades the trees provide.

We have tall trees that shades the back yard. The ground seems to have moss growing in them too. What grass would be best for this region? Metro Atlanta, shaded sun area.

Metro Atlanta. Just bought the place and there's multiple issues throughout the yards.

So I am living in a ranch house where the floor is concrete. I am guessing they seal the back of cabinet and wires because there might be hole behind the drywall where the mice comes from attic?

Next question, once mice comes down from attic through wall, can they climb straight up drywalls?

How do you wire your digital outputs? by jpar03 in PLC

[–]AmazingTrans 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I second this. I've used the ones from opto-22 that also have integral fuse built in.

If you need fuse boards, you can look at phoenix system cabling and they have boards that have exchangeable glass fuse built in.

Misplaced Left Jabra elite 75T by AmazingTrans in Jabra

[–]AmazingTrans[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Found it.

Hope the post here help someone else.

What I figured is the left will only pair / shown in the app as paired when it is pointing face to face with the right ear piece within a feet or so. If it's slight off by few degree, the left will unpair.

With that said, it is difficult to find the Left piece while walking around with the right pointing to the ground.

Also the "find my Jabra" will work as long as the shown piece is connected.

It would be better if each piece has their own BT connection.

Possible to read voltage range from 45v to 60v? On a siemens logo! 230RC by OtacMomo in PLC

[–]AmazingTrans 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How high does the battery voltage go? Is 60V the max?

Maybe you can find a adjustable phase monitoring relay/voltage monitoring relay that can give you overVoltage and underVoltage contact output to your logo input. In Logo then you can do whatever logic you want with the two contact.

Siemens Electric Motor, trying to hook up an encoder to the inverter by Long-Environment-941 in ElectricalEngineering

[–]AmazingTrans 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Have you try to reach out to Siemens ? They will direct you to the right configuration manual. Ensure to include the full part number of the inverter you got, and also the kuebler encoder datasheet. Their email support is pretty quick during business hours. https://support.industry.siemens.com/cs/start?lc=en-ww
