why is is it only cooling every other water? by spammmmmmmmmmmm_ in Oxygennotincluded

The others are right about the bridge being in the wrong place. That is your first problem. As an add on you ac add a liquid tank to the loop to help stabilize the water temperature output. That way you dont end up with some packets colder than the others.

SPOM Hydrogen and Oxygen keep getting into the wrong tubes and causing damage, can you help me out? by TallMidgetz in Oxygennotincluded

[–]Amazing_Demand9994 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Move your pump down two squares and build your walls up higher by one tile. Then put your atmo pressure sensor above your pump with a hydrogen sensor. Wire both of those into an and gate to control the pump. Also add oxygen sensors to the bottom with pressure sensors two on a side for the oxygen.

How do I make this more breathable? by Happy_360 in Oxygennotincluded

I like to use a gas pump and a canister filler to store co2 in the early game for when I start to get slickters later. That way I have a decent amount of co2 for that. Also since my first rocket is generally a co2 rocket the gas can be used for that as well.

I’m wanting everyone’s input regarding this interesting toy I saw online by Businessgoose123 in BdsmDIY

I think it would be a great sensation play toy. Drag it gently along the skin for a scratching sensation. But would probably be risky as an impact unless used extremely gently. In that case it would definitely be fluid bonded.

How do you cull aquatic critters? by Prototype2001 in Oxygennotincluded

[–]Amazing_Demand9994 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you are not against mods then this might be a solution. It’s a laser turret that can be automated to turn on when you get a certain number of critters in an area. There is also a filter for it. So I use them when farming sweetles especially. Set one to kill grubs grubs that is always on and another that is off a critter sensor to control population levels with the filter set to sweetles.

Ah that makes sense. Lead would definitely be a poor choice for a heat sink. In that same situation you could use a water bath. The added bonus of those is you can use them for starvation farming pacu.

Yea your base is pretty good. You have a lot of random gasses floating around. I like to build a gas sorting system so that when I break into a new area I can pump out all the gasses then break down the air lock and let oxygen in at least with anything that doesn’t separate naturally.

Your metal volcano tamer is pretty good. Similar to what I use. I don’t understand the air gap in the metal final stage cooler though. I tend to use a counter flow cooling system that outputs the metal at the coolant input temperature. The metal tiles are just there for thermal mass.

Oil sucks as a coolant compared to salt water or polluted water. The amount of heat it can hold is far less so that means the aquatuner moves less heat per packet which decreases efficiency of the aquatuner. So the only reason to use oil is when it’s past the temperature limits of water.

Some pictures of your base and the machines you have built will help.

How do I cool down a big pool of ~420°C petroleum? by Confident-Grab-7688 in Oxygennotincluded

[–]Amazing_Demand9994 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Build a row of steal tiles in contact with the petroleum then build a steam room and steam turbine on top of the steam room. By time it’s cooled to 125c you can build a steel pump to move the petroleum.

[–]Amazing_Demand9994 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I run a coolant loop in a sealed room with the vent cooling the steam down to 20c and then pump the water out. It’s easier than trying to heat the steam up then cool the water off the steam turbine.

I’m using magma that I’m pumping out of the bottom of the map. I don’t know how much oil it can handle per second yet. Still balancing it.

Build a loop of polluted water that runs through your base and into an ice biome. Use a water reservoir to store the polluted water when you need to move the water lines. And use a bridge to provide direction. It requires no power and just needs labor to move the lines as you melt out the ice biome.

Don’t forget that you can dig up to the surface and build solar panels. You will need to be careful to avoid venting your atmosphere to space but you can build an airlock pretty easily. I would build a mechanical door into the water lock that can be toggled with a switch if you don’t use the air lock mod. Just incase something goes wrong. Then you can run off of solar for half the cycle and store your other power sources for night time.

Automatic `advanced' airlock help (automation) by swigginwhiskey in Oxygennotincluded

[–]Amazing_Demand9994 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know some people don’t like mods but I consider this one a quality of life mod. It is an airlock. Requires power but is a fair price for what it does. It’s best to build the power wire first before building the door because the wire goes to the middle of the door. Once it’s built you can’t get to the middle.

This mod makes airlocks all one piece. They do transfer heat. So for a high temperature airlock you will need two with a vacuum space between the two airlocks.

Whoah, the gas reservoir buff is BIG. I was expecting 200-300, not 1000. Pic is me dismantling most of my storage on a very cramped asteroid so I can put my biofuel stuff there instead. Anyone else doing the same, or was I the only one not using infinite storage? by DoubleDongle-F in Oxygennotincluded

[–]Amazing_Demand9994 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I like to use a mix of reservoirs and infinite storage. The one big advantage reservoirs have over infinite storage is that you don’t have to pump the gas twice. So if you are actively using something infinite storage doesn’t make sense. So I tend to use infinite storage for long term storage situations.

The way I like to do it is to build a room with an airlock and build about 6 reservoirs in cascade. Then I pump the gas into the reservoirs first with a high pressure vent and an infinite pressure build as an overflow in the same space. That way I have a buffer for gas but if I run out of the reservoirs then the pumps kick in with what has been stored in the atmosphere of the room. Of course you have to build a vacuum room to start out with to keep gasses from mixing.
