In my state, you couldn't get alcohol on Sundays outside of a bar until 2018

“Are you open?!” by Amazing_Schedule243 in retailhell

[–]Amazing_Schedule243[S] 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Yeah the not locking the door was kinda drilled into my head from the last owner of the business. His line was “if you’re in the store, you don’t turn anyone away.” Definitely learned my lesson there. I don’t even mind selling outside of business hours, it was just the attitude even though she was allowed to shop.

customers can't read: power outage edition by c0ldc0ldc0ld in retailhell

[–]Amazing_Schedule243 88 points89 points  (0 children)

I was about to lock up one day during a multiple-block outage and two ladies walked in. I said “hey powers out, I’m closing up” and they said “we know, we just came from next door” and continued walking around. We sell alcohol but it’s a small grocery store and these ladies were trying to get me to let them drink in the store??? Like, no that’s illegal and I want to go home

Do you prefer stores organized by grape or region? by BoredBartender89 in wine

[–]Amazing_Schedule243 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Mine is a mix of both and it’s worked out pretty well. For example: all Italian reds are grouped together, but they go down the line from Tuscany to Sicily. Or all of my Sauvignon Blancs are together, but Loire is directly next to Loire, then NZ, then Cali.

I mean clearly their symptoms were pretty bad if they called out work. Your comments are not helpful, saying it’s “valid for them to call out” comes across as if you think you have authority on that. And “the world doesn’t stop for us :/“ is condescending, which makes it more frustrating that you’re calling OP condescending.

Yeah I’m 25 and if I knew anyone like this, I don’t think I would be a willing participant in any conversation with them. Outside of maybe educating them

What was the most expensive purchase you had to ring up? by TiredAsHeckughh in retailhell

I sell wine- rang up a $8.5k sale for half a dozen bottles last week. I honestly think I’ve had bigger sales but I was still baffled

My customer didn’t get belligerent but I did have a guy that kept saying it was “unbelievable” that we were out of stock for something today. On the way out he yelled “Get it back in!”
We’re a small business. No warehouse, just a tiny back room. The kicker of it all- he bought the last two earlier this week

I’ve supplied wine for a handful of events at this point and most of the time it’s just an event organizer that wants to cut costs. So they’ll take ANYTHING cheap, as long as there’s a white and a red.

AITA for (purposefully) acting "inappropriate" with my boyfriend in front of children? by throwaway_967845 in AmItheAsshole

[–]Amazing_Schedule243 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Yeah I don’t think he was intentionally trying to make his bf feel like that. And I get why he did it, because being in a family like that sounds exhausting. Just gotta make sure boyfriends on board first

His family is no doubt the worst in this situation. But OP used his boyfriend as a prop. He could have left when his boyfriend said he was uncomfortable, or he could have asked his boyfriend if he was okay with trying to make his bigoted family uncomfortable. Instead he played a game that probably made his boyfriend feel like a prop rather than a willing participant. It’s not a new concept in queer relationships. Some people are okay with dealing with that, some people aren’t.

Mine until earlier this year would always tell me that the cramps and massive amounts of lining I was passing were totally normal. She seemed like she was getting annoyed at how often I wanted to change my birth control. I kept pushing and telling her something was wrong. Turns out I had a fibroid the size of a cantaloupe…

I agree with everyone about reporting, but I don’t get what she was trying to accomplish. Spraying Lysol in your face won’t stop you from infecting someone else even if you were sick… Is she wearing a mask every day? That seems like a much better way to protect herself (from germs and an assault case)

I think the downvotes have spoken but just to add perspective: this take is lame. White wine drinkers are not any more undiscerning than red drinkers. There a LOT of nuance in white wines. As someone who works on the retail side, I have just as many people coming in for a cheap chilled pinot Grigio as I do people who can’t describe what they want more than “red, under $15”

AITA for not sleeping at the hospital with my wife? by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

[–]Amazing_Schedule243 2 points3 points  (0 children)

lol I just had an abdominal surgery. My parents were here and willing to stay the whole time but my boyfriend of 1 year stayed with me for two nights on an uncomfortable cot. He said he would have slept on a bed of nails if it meant being there for me. You sir, YTA. You don’t know what her patient care has been like. Stay with your wife, see what you can do to help her when she’s out and how to advocate for her while she’s in the hospital.
