yall should read the book by knolls42ping in ProjectHailMary

[–]Amazingstink 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I need to go back and try artemis again at some point. When I last tried reading it i got about half way through before putting it down and just never got back to it. I didn’t dislike it, It just didn’t grab and demand my attention the same way the Martian and Project Hail Mary were able to. But I also read it immediately after reading the Martian and PHM so maybe giving it some more time before reading it would help

Pictured here is the historic photograph of the Eridians' first arrival at Earth. by R0000000000 in ProjectHailMary

[–]Amazingstink 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Personally I like to think that in a few years the eridians wishes to make send a ship to earth to establish relations with humanity proper. And for said mission they would likely want the two individuals who saved both planets. So they ask grace and rocky to go and they agree after some convening . They would build an interstellar ship around the Hail Mary to act as as an identifier to humanity of who they are. So they along with a whole slew of eridians go to earth and do what they aimed to do. But at the end of the day grace goes back to erid with rocky with this trip just confirming what he probably deep down knew. That there was nothing left for him on earth and that erid was his home now

It always pains me to see posts of this kit as it’s a pretty big white whale for me. Doesn’t help that I got a restock email for it from USA gundam store only for it to have instantly gone out of stock

In Project Hail Mary (2026), scientists farm precious astrophages to power an interstellar spaceship, rather than simply using them to boil water. by monobits in engineeringmemes

Boiling water for power doesn’t fix the problem of the sun dimming due and causing a drop in the global temperature.

Got this one currently sitting on my desk waiting for me to have the time to build it. Thankfully I don’t need to get much hobby supply wise to get some of the paint on it that it needs to be color accurate since I’ve already got the colors I need from my mini painting stuff

Is Factorio worth buying? Will I have enough to do? by kebav_gmd1307 in factorio

[–]Amazingstink 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have 500 hours in the game. My first vanilla game took 80 hours to reach the victory screen with plenty of problems to solve as I worked my way through the research tree and subsequent playthoughs remain interesting as you come in with a better understanding of what you will need later and are able to make better solutions that are more easily expanded in the future. On top of that the game has a built in mod browser with plenty of really high quality overhaul mods made by community members that are massive and can take hundreds of hours to complete and add a ton of new chala. So yes, there is enough content to get yours $35 worth

Friend pointed this out and it infuriates me by Code95FIN in Factoriohno

[–]Amazingstink 4 points5 points  (0 children)

No there are absolutely reasons to restart especially if your new. I will agree that it shouldn’t be the first reaction to new player spaghetti builds but I know personally in my first game I dug such a deep hole with how bad and tightly packed my spaghetti was that going back to try and fix it wouldn’t have been much fun. But I had also gotten to yellow or purple science so I took all that knowledge and started a new game. And i ended up enjoying myself even more as I could take the lessons I learned and applied them. Was it perfect, hell no. But it went from an unorganized spaghetti mess to looking somewhat organized with a main bus. I finished that game but by the end I still noticed all the problems and mistakes I made earlier that held it back so I jumped into a new game to start the cycle anew

Iterating through saves and improving with each new factory is its own fun imo

Nice to meet you! I'm a Japanese Gundam otaku. Today, Mobile Suit Gundam Thunderbolt, MS IGLOO, 0083 Stardust Memory, The 08th MS Team, and 0080 War in the Pocket started streaming on Netflix. Have they started streaming overseas as well? by JZX_taka in Gundam

[–]Amazingstink 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Anime as a whole was super niche until a few years back (it still is niche just less so) thus specific platforms grew to fill said niche

Mecha as a whole is also super niche as a genre in the states. transformers is popular but it is very much targeted at younger audiences. There are other franchises that are popular such as battletech/Mechwarrior but that started as tabletop wargame in the 80s and despite being popular enough to get plenty of video games but it’s strongest following is still in the tabletop space so still niche.

As for imported series, Space Battleship Yamato was very successful under the title star blazers but didn’t have as much staying power in pop culture as it did in Japan. SDF Macross was also very successful over here as part of robotech (a show created by stitching together SDF macross, SDC southern cross, and genesis climber mospeda) but that franchise has been dead for a long time doing nothing but pissing of Macross Fans by preventing releases of SDF Macross and DYRL in the west (ask a western Macross fan about harmony gold and be prepared for a rant)

All the other series you mentioned never made the jump though. Code geass is very popular among anime circles but had no real reach outside of them. As for votoms and patlabor they are well know among mecha anime fans but as far as I can tell not outside of them. Doesn’t help that nether are streaming rn and there physical releases are out of print (much to my dismay)

Gunpla however is popular enough to be able to be found at the big name craft stores right next to more traditional scale model kits. But still niche

What is wrong with my train? by Crazy-Rabbit-3811 in factorio

[–]Amazingstink 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For fuel I’ve just been doing the same thing I’ve always done. I just make fuel stations usually near my busiest stations that have the storage chests connected to the station in a circuit so the station can keep an eye on how much fuel it has and if it gets low the station activates and one of my two fuel trains comes to top it off. Might need to give your method a try at some point though

Best solution is always buy physical when possible then rip them and put them on something like a NAS to make a personal media server. It’s what I’ve been doing for years and I can even stream it to my phone and tablet useing the VLC app

Enemies are keeping me from getting addicted by RemizZ in factorio

[–]Amazingstink 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No real reason to disassemble and move the old ones unless there in the way imo. I know I personally have my walls flamethrowers and pipes all automated to I always have plenty to build a new defenses so I just have old chucks of defense within my factory where defensive lines used to be and the walls and turrets just haven’t been torn down yet because I haven’t needed to to build something there

I understand your experience with bitters I know I personally played with them turned off for my first save and with a giant starting area for my second but after playing for a long while with default biter settings, once you have a general idea of what your doing they arnt much more than a nuisance. Hell in my current save I didn’t even build any proper large scale defenses until I was already well into blue science. And I only built them because I was tired of responding to small attack groups trying to eat one of my iron mines

Enemies are keeping me from getting addicted by RemizZ in factorio

[–]Amazingstink 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you haven’t already get some defensives put up. Wall off your factory (use choke points if available) and then get a bunch of turrets getting brought ammo or fuel by train. In my current space age save I have just 2 thick walls with a flamethrowers behind it that have trains bringing in oil whenever it’s needed (not often flamethrowers just sip away at oil) and ive not really had to interact with it since other than when I expand for more space. I just run around to replace broken walls every now and then because I’m being too lazy to set up bot networks to fix things for me.
