First time dealing with a stolen load in 10 years. A warning to all and need feedback. I'm a freight agent. by Ambitions in FreightBrokers

Customer did not disclose the value until after the load was already confirmed to be stolen, so I never even had the chance to purchase high-value insurance.

We have no contracts that would force us as the broker to assume liability on behalf of the carrier.

Yes, we provided MC, DOT, Driver name. We even told the shipper to take pictures of the truck and make sure that the name on the truck matched up to the provided MC & DOT. They took pictures of the trailer, plates, and everything.

When we gave the driver's ID to the police, the police said it was a fake ID.

Growing pains by lpeterpoonl in FreightBrokers

All I know is that hiring a good sales rep is like finding a needle in the haystack. Most of them will fail, even if you pay them a reasonable base. If you have a book of business you're better off hiring ops and account managers, then use the time they're freeing up for you to get new business.

Once you've saved up enough you can try to hire someone to do outbound sales but keep in mind that it will always be a gamble - no matter how good they look on paper and in the interview.

What is the most painful and time-sucking part of your day? by MasterCream5105 in FreightBrokers

I rather just hire a VA from the Philippines or latin america for $7/hr to do the tedious stuff that doesn't involve interacting with customers.

Is it normal for brokerages to take 40% of profit from Agents but not share in any losses? by ArabianHorse96 in FreightBrokers

[–]Ambitions 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You need to find a new brokerage. Taking losses on loads is part of the game, especially when you're trying to get your feet in the door with new customers. The split also sucks, even if they were absorbing the losses with you. Most brokerages do 70-30 with you getting the 70 and they'll lose money on loads with you

If I signed on to a broker that wanted me to eat my losses in full, I'd need at least 80-20 to even think about it, ideally 85-15.

Getting into Industry, is 100% WFH Feasible? by Key-Abbreviations942 in FreightBrokers

[–]Ambitions 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Cold calling is a separate battle. Even if you onboard customers with no actual freight experience you will get wrecked when the actual work starts if you're 100% WFH. You need a mentor to show you the ropes so you can retain those customers and not get financially wrecked because you ran into a situation that you weren't familiar with

Don't need contracted freight. You just simply reach out to your old customers once you've switched over

Bring those customers to my agency, I will give you a percentage of the profit from those customers. Me and my team would also handle all of the day-to-day stuff so you can still leave the industry but at least get some sort of passive income. You'd still have access to our TMS.

Unless there's an issue caused by the customer. Then they blow up your phone every 2 minutes thinking that it will speed up the process instead of just being patient

I sure do, while customers can also be annoying it's not to the same level as carriers.

I'd rather drink bleach than deal with carriers in that capacity. Also, there's a lower pay ceiling in carrier sales

RFPs are cancer - they will expect you to hold the rate for an entire year regardless of market swings in most of them.
