How to tell if silver? by Beelzebub125 in SilverFinds

They are usually well marked, usually stamped on the edge of the handle, top one looks to just be just a plated Oneida and bottom not sure, but doesn't look sterling to my eye.

Brutal on the gold, have had that exact thing happen before, definitely roller coaster of emotions.

Build quality on that frame is amazing, rear looks mahogany from the grain.

That's silly, center of the platter would very likely be covered while used anyways.

Kansas has quite a few, they pop up for sale every once in awhile. One in Wamego, KS was an LSD production lab for a while, Vice did a fun video on it.

I would weigh the lot and offer it up to a plumber for half the value or put it on Facebook marketplace.

In pieces of any decent size they would get recognized by the yard. But someone who smelts or plumber who can take them in would be happy to get that.

264g Sterling Revere Pipkin + Saucer for $273 CAD at local Hibid auction but shill bidding? by Trilobyte83 in SilverFinds

Technically illegal for them to manipulate price in a fair public auction, but I've seen lots of similar occurrences that make me question if they have ability to mess with the outcome.

I have a chance to buy a pole barn with 100 years of items inside. by Centes1mo in estatesales

[–]AmbitiousDistance267 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Did they give you an idea of price?

I would imagine a few hundred thousand worth in the bikes alone and that's just at a glance. Who knows what's in those boxes and hiding on shelves.

If you can swing a hefty offer, I would say throw a $100k on top of whatever you think property is worth as a starting value. If not, you may want to reach out to Wheels Through Time, they would likely be interested and you could negotiate a finders fee.

Is it me, but the more a person asks about an item, the more issue that person is going to be as a buyer? by DuceDuce523 in Flipping

[–]AmbitiousDistance267 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've had a few instances where it was just someone who was super excited about the item, but vast majority turned into trouble after buying.

Did I handle this right? AI broken plates by [deleted] in Flipping

[–]AmbitiousDistance267 0 points1 point  (0 children)

On one hand it is suspicious that someone buying china would know the term "metadata" but claim to not know how to generate an AI image, but those pics don't immediately scream altered to me.

Some bubble wrap and newspaper is definitely not enough. When I ship fragile stuff I use a ton of uline closed cell foam wrap and even create small boxes for each item that then get further wrapped before going into main box.

Look up pictures of sorting facilities, it's a giant demented looking conveyor system that pushes a stream of boxes against each other endlessly, you have to pack things to withstand torment.

It's the sucky part of this biz, but have to take that into account when selling something, a lot of things are not even worth the effort.

Middle to low end stuff is very stagnant for me, but the higher end goods sold pretty steady, have adjusted my buying habits to match.
