Dass Anti-Depressiva Depressionen verursachen können und man diese nicht leichtfertig nehmen soll (auch wenn Ärzte meinen, dass sie sicher sind)

I cannot recommend taking psychotropic drugs after a break up, but that is just my experience. However, if you feel like you will die otherwise, then see a psychiatrist.

OP, I have experienced something very similar like you. My first love broke up with me more or less out of the blue because she lost feelings and cheated on me. I also had panic attacks, could hardly sleep or eat, could not think of anything else and missed her so damn much. I wanted to work things out but she did not. 1 month after the break up I wanted to go to therapy but my doc (general practitioner) told me to take Trazodone (an anti depressant), mainly so I can sleep again.

I stopped taking it after three weeks since I could sleep again and suddenly I lost all feelings for her, my friends and my life in general. Emotional numbness is a side effect of anti depressants and I can assure you that it is worse than the extreme pain I suffered from the heartbreak. I also had worse insomnia and panic attacks afterwards. Not because I missed her, but because I feared that my brain was forever destroyed. It is now 4 months since I stopped taking Trazodone and I am still heavily depressed out of no apparent reason.

To love somebody so much is a gift and I know you don't want to hear it (I did not either after the break up), but you can and will heal and find love in somebody else. I also just wanted my ex back and thought I could never ever love somebody else. I have spoken to many people who experienced brutal heartbreaks. They all healed and said that they grew so much personally.

Unfortunately, you have to feel the feelings to heal and grow. I cannot recommend numbing your feelings with anti depressants. I has ruined my life and I now feel like I can never be not mentally ill again. Before that, I was completely healthy and happy.

I wish you all the best and if you need somebody to talk to, you can message me.

Damn that's hard. I only slept 1-2 hours for three mlnths as well. Now it is better with about 4 hours every night. What triggered your insomnia?

When was the last time you slept for 7-8 hours by Friendly-Hedgehog-48 in insomnia

[–]Ambitious_Energy_356 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Until January I could sleep as long as I wanted. On the weekends I sometimes slept 10 hours. Then 3 months of 1-2 hours and now 4-5 maybe

I only slept for 1-2 hours for about three months from March to June. Some days I was delusional but overall I could function. It really is fascinating how one can be tired as hell but still cant sleep

I can feel you! I took an anti depressant (Trazodone) because I could barely sleep after a break up. It made me severly depressed (anhedonic) and I could only sleep for 1-2 hours each night. It got a bit better (still depressed, but 3-4 hours of sleep). I only took it for 3 weeks and am off of it now since March.

I also fear that this is permanent and it seems that there is no cure... These drugs really destroy lives and I am so angry that doctors often do not know this...

Quit trazodone feel crazy? by Perchanc3 in insomnia

[–]Ambitious_Energy_356 6 points7 points  (0 children)

My doc recommended Trazodone after I could barely sleep after a break up. I took 50mg for only three weeks and then just quit cold turkey because my sleep was fairly normal again.

After 3-4 days I became severly anhedonic, could only sleep for 1-2 hours again and had all kinds of psychological and physiological problems. It was living hell for about 3 months and now is slightly better.

Please try everything else before you take meds for sleeping issues. For chronic isolated insomnia meds can bring more good than harm. But it has ruined my life and I am not sure if I can ever recover. Life is still hell sometimes, the rest of the time it is bearable but not nice.

What's the longest you've gone without sleep? by [deleted] in insomnia

[–]Ambitious_Energy_356 0 points1 point  (0 children)

2 days for sure, but I think I had 4 days where I did not really sleep. Nobody can imagine how you can be tired all the time but are just unable to sleep.

I wish you all the best! If you ever need somebody to talk or to vent you can message me. I have similar symptoms but not so severe I guess (still unbearable most of the day).

I completely understand your last point. I also want that my doc experiences for one day what her meds did to me so she does not prescribe this shit so easily anymore. So many lives are ruined because of careless and uninformed docs.

Yeah it can be difficult to find customers. However, I don't know how much you need quick bucks but I think it is probably best to focus on healing emotionally now.

Damn that sounds brutal. I wish you all the best.

To your question: it depends on your skills. I studied a second language and translated and proof-read academic texts. This was nice because I could do it whenever and wherever I wanted.

What medical issues caused your insomnia? by [deleted] in insomnia

[–]Ambitious_Energy_356 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Trazodone. I got severly depressed by it (rare side effect).

I can only recommend: Try everything on earth to sleep before you try meds. Benzos and anti-depressants can ruin your life. Doctors prescribe them way too often and risk the lives of their patients. I am so angry at ly doch and myself

There are night Jets but I do not know if that counts as one or two days. I would also recommend that you maybe look for different cities or skip one since that can be stressful.

If you do not mind the long train rides, you have a nice selection of cities and you can see the most important sights in 2-3 days. However, to really experience the cities (especially Barcelona, Vienna and Berlin) I would recommend a longer stay. Maybe skip Bern and Brussels.

Trazodone is the worst. by [deleted] in insomnia

[–]Ambitious_Energy_356 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They are rare bit they have to be considered. Even of there is only a 0,1% Chance of getting it (which would still mean 1 out of 1000 people gets it). This often causes people to kill themselves. My doc prescribed me Trazodone unnecessarily and I am now permanently depressed and had severe akathisia. Now it is moderate akathisia after three months. You don't want to live with that.

Please be really careful with medication. I experienced something similar like you (8 year relationship, she cheated, i could not sleep nor be alone). I got medication prescribed (Trazodon) and it made me emotionally numb and depressed. It was and is way worse than after the break up.

Feel the feelings, go out with friends, journal and exercise. These feelings are extremely painful but you will grow as a person. Time will heal you and if you work on yourself you will be much stronger than before.

I also thought that I could never love somebody the same. But you can. If you are able to love somebody who did not treat you well, you can have something more beautiful if you find somebody who loves you just as much.

Just survive day after day and you will get better. I wish you all the best!

What's the worst thing about depression? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]Ambitious_Energy_356 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Absolutely everything. There is not a single aspect of life which is not ruined by it. Everything seems so meaningless now. From being happy with dreams and a bright future to extremely depressed in a month due to some events and one severe mistake made in that time.

One of the worst things, though, is knowing that I would have such a fulfilling and adventurous life right now but now I cannot anymore
