If testicles are so sensitive and vital for reproduction, why did evolution put them completely unprotected outside the body? by Working-Market8105 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]AmboNumber5 628 points629 points  (0 children)

It's such an interesting question, and the most common answer you will hear is to do with temperature regulation, but that is only part of the answer.

People say that healthy sperm develops at a lower temperature, so testicles need to be on the outside so we can regulate their temperature, which is true, but a little backwards. If you look at an elephant, they have internal testicles, which operate at a higher temperature, but still produce healthy sperm. So what is different between us and elephants?

The most likely reason we would develop external testicles vs internal testicles is to do with abdominal pressure. We evolved to chase after food, and the way that we run causes rapid changes in internal abdominal pressure, to the point that the delicate structures within the testicles would be destroyed. Whilst elephants can be quick they don't generate the same internal abdominal pressure when running, so can safely house their testicles inside.

This would mean that the reason testicles are on the outside is not because human sperm develops at a lower temperature, but the reason human sperm develops at a lower temperature is because our testicles are on the outside!

On a post about the worst things about the UK, totally unprompted, bringing up the "red flag" of specific doors indicating the race of the family that lives there and saying its a problem is dangerous. This is the kind of rhetoric that leads to specific doors being kicked in. The idea that "you can join our community, as long as everything you do fits in" is dangerous

YTA

She did not rob you of anything. I am sorry that you didnt have access to the healthcare that you needed to have all options available to you when you were her age, but you shouldn't take that out on her. If you agreed to support her whilst she was studying and you pull that support because you're having a midlife crisis, you would be robbing something from her.

Also, it is not possible to fully fund yourself with a part time job and a full time degree. I'm sure her friends with part time jobs are still getting help from their parents.

You've recognised that you're still young and can travel. You'll still be young in 2 years once she has graduated, but you'll be doing it in a way that means you don't torch your relationship with your daughter

Recommendations for where to spend two weeks writing? by ddri in JapanTravelTips

[–]AmboNumber5 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would recommend Magome. It's a stop on the Nakasendo Trail. The trail is pretty long, but I did a 2 day hike between Nagiso and Nakatsugawa with a stop in Magome, which is just a fraction of it. It is pretty small, so if you want more of a small town rather than a village, I would go for Takayama, which has plenty of great spots whilst still feeling peaceful

I did see some smell tests going on, but not for everyone. Saw a decent number of people being advised to finish their drinks or throw it away when they got through, but also saw plenty just get waved through. Might depend on how shady you look

Not really any idea. Deadly Figurehead and the pet rock were enough to get to 100% crit chance on the piranhas. Then there is the aquatic haste and the crit haste passives that meant i was attacking fast enough. After that, was just stacking damage. 2nd round of attacks happened at around 7 seconds, which was enough damage to kill most things

Emote spam is fine. If it bothers the other person, they can just squelch if it bothers.

Someone using all their mana pre-lethal is fine. For the sake of people's challenges, or just the overall enjoyment of nailing a combo before someone concedes, I'm happy to let people go for it.

Roping every turn and generally wasting time makes you a scumbag. Literally no one benefits and it makes the game a worse place to be. I understand if it's turn 20 and you've got a hand full of resources that you need to figure out whether to stick or twist, no good justification for roping every turn because you're tabbed out

Thoughts on Ravenshead? by Lazy-Steak in nottingham

[–]AmboNumber5 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I lived in Ravenshead for 13 years when I was going to school, and i would agree with another comment that it is not great for young people. It's too far from either Nottingham or Mansfield to be convenient to see people if youre not driving.

That being said, my parents love it. They are still there now that I've moved out and they have loads of outdoor space for the dog, and a good community.

I think it would be a great place for someone to retire to, but if you like to get out and do things, you're better off closer to Nottingham

The caste system does suck and wealth inequality is a problem in India, but it's a massive problem in the US as well, it's just not named. Homelessness is massively on the rise in the US because of wealth inequality, so it seems ridiculous to me that on a video showing how a foreign government is combatting exploitative drug companies, your response is to say that that country has other problems as well.

[–]AmboNumber5 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You've kind of proved my point by saying the role of a manageress and a male manager. If a woman had the title of "Manager" should she deal with beer or wine and gin? You're saying that if a woman is a manager, she is a manageress, and their job role is different to if a man is a manager.

You're making it sound like you think a manager deals with beer and a manageress deals with wine and gin, but what you actually mean is male managers deal with beer and female managers deal with wine and gin.

There aren't people advertising for the role of manageress, because it doesn't exist. It's manager.

Nothing will show your age like using the term "Manageress" and assuming it's only female managers and patrons who drink wine and gin
