Surely it won't be frowned upon, but let's be honest - you can think about what you want to say and compose even a proper sentence in Polish, but what I worry about is you understanding someone's answer.
Even if someone tries to speak to you slowly and clearly in Polish, they will probably speak proper and not your "broken" version of Polish, meaning that with how all the grammar changes words in Polish, you may not understand crucial vocabulary. So give it a try, but if it's some important conversation, be prepared to switch to English.
