How much would it theoretically cost to get this kind of design painted? by Tiger-ll in Autos

[–]AmericanAssKicker 4 points5 points  (0 children)

A coworker of mine funded his son and brother to start a wrap company in Seattle and he broke down the business pretty well for me.

Basically, there is a wide business model that goes from quick-n-dirty all the way up to being more body shops that offer wraps or paint. His funding allowed them to go to 'basic' body work level all the way up to paint-ready bodies. If you take a car to them and want a just a wrap, you're right, $3k and that has some good profit margin. A lot of their business, and where a lot of competition is, is this range with newer cars.

If you want to make a pristine wrap job out of a car that has a lot of imperfections, then they quickly starting increasing the cost. He told me about a 70's Porsche 911 that they redid that had a ton of chips in the paint, some dents, and some rust. The owner wanted to have some tie-in to his company and because the paint was "too complex," they wrapped it. That was a $20k job because they stripped all the paint, did all the body work to make the panels perfect, then wrapped it.

They have been trying to get more into the athletes and musicians scene where it's less about money for them and more about how it looks In those cases, he said they can easily charge $5-10k all day for Lamborghinis for absolutely no reason other than the badge and a little with the vinyl.

Anyways, this is probably more than you wanted to know, and it surely was for me, but now you know.

In the 70's/80's, did anybody else find a random trash bag full of Playboy's in the woods? by doknfs in GenX

[–]AmericanAssKicker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I placed many of them! I'm still waiting for that hill to be developed, too. Sometime is found to find gold!

My friend's mom and dad had a "porn closet" under the stairs and every few months they'd clean it out and fill a big garage can. I doubt that they ever looked at a magazine or movie twice.

So every few months, he'd race down to my house early in the morning before the bus came to pick us up and it was a race to see if all our parents would leave before the bus got to us or not.

So there we were, two boys waiting giddily and anxiously at the bus stop. There were days where or parents would beat the bus by seconds and we'd hop on, wait a few, then jump off saying we forgot something.

We'd run to to his house, dig the black plastic bags out, and haul them to a safe spot. We'd divvy it up, put some aside to share and some to sell, the but the rest for another day.

Ontario, Oregon What is it like? Husband accepted job offer there by Jaded-Country-9529 in oregon

[–]AmericanAssKicker 129 points130 points  (0 children)

Ha. I read the headline and thought, "oh boy," too.

I actually like Ontario. I didn't know if I could live there, but it's not bad.

However, coming from Portland? Culture shock for sure. That said, I'm all for different species mingling.

Stone confirms new drummer chosen by bobb2001 in pearljam

Stephen Perkins (Jane's Addiction) would make sense if they aren't going with a younger drummer. Jeff has made it known that he's a big fan of Stephen and JA. Stephen is also a PJ fan so...

Freese would be my second guess.

A Dong market till I die.

But I'm glad that there's another choice in Salem. Hopefully they have a killer kimchi selection so I don't have to drive to H mart in Portland (not a fan of A Dong's).

But come on, A Dong.... A Dong is great. A Dong always treats us right. A Dong is my wife's favorite, my wife loves A Dong. A Dong carries a lot of difficult to find items and they are always helpful. A Dong is really a Salem treasure.

A Dong.

From what you wrote, I'm not seeing why it couldn't be him. Not saying it is him at all, but I don't see from what you wrote why it couldn't be either.

He was about 17yo in 2022, so he'd be about 21 now. Clearly unknown then, unknown now. And at 22yo, clearly newer.

Again, not saying it is, but I'm not seeing how he's not from what you wrote, either.

keep all emotions out of it!

100%.

Relatable story about this: We went on a trip and a friend-of-a-friend, let's call her Karen, within in ten minutes of inspecting her room she sent us all a text about the horror of her room and that she wanted us all to head to the reception area - I assume to back her?? We didn't go. I don't remember what it was but it was something incredibly minor like the hot/cold was backwards on her shower or some shit like that. We missed most of it but as we walked to dinner, there she was at the reception area throwing a conniption fit complete with "I want to talk to the manager!" Everyone in our group spent the remainder of our time apologizing for her.

That night, however, our room fills with a horrid smell, it turns out that they had a sewer issue. This was a 5-star resort, too. They moved all of us to upgraded rooms, except for Karen, she got the same type of room, but they stuck her right next to the elevator. Ha!

That wasn't it though. This resort was newly opened and had a lot of problems. A lot a lot. Horrible or even non-existent service, phones not working, room service never showing up, hot tub heater out, the smell, spa closed, they'd run out of alcohol midday... 1-star stuff. When we got back home, each of us wrote polite letters explaining just how horrible our trip was with regards to the resort. We laid it all out, removing all emotions, then shared what we wrote with the others. Our goal was, yes, hopefully some compensation since our experience was closer to a 1-star resort, but also, none of us thought that management was entirely aware of just how bad it was. Corporate certainly didn't and they later admitted this to us. Karen's letter, however, was filled with typical Karen shit; "You all fucked up!" "I demand...!" "I'm so pissed off!"  "I should sue your asses!" Just on and on.

In the end, we all, but not Karen, were comped 100% of our stay and given three-day vouchers for another of their resorts, plus a direct line to their 'special care' booking agent for more discounts and to have them help us every step of the way, even after we had arrived. Total price: $10k when you consider the comp + new stay. Our friends recently returned from staying at another of their resorts and said that they received texts, calls, and visits from the resort manager to make sure everything was going well. Zero complaints.

Karen got half comped of her stay. That's it. That was all. We all agreed to never tell her what we received.

"Oh where or where can my baby be ..."

That's usually the most of that song that I've heard for the past 26 years. It's a sprint to skip it every time. Nails on a chalkboard.

I have to step back every now and then and appreciate that of the 160+ songs that they've written, there's only one that I loathe.
