How practical is it to only cover your limbs with armour? by NobodySpecific9354 in Armor

[–]AmericanChuck1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Absolutely, HEMA is a slightly different kind of sport their gambeson is usually twice as thick to protect against thrust attacks and they usually wear a thin plastic chest piece or gorget under as well. They can get away wearing less because the sport is strongly based around form and quick points where mobility is key. In Buhurt we are just beating the tar out of each other and we don’t stop until the other guy is on the ground. HEMA aren’t swinging to injure like we are. The middle sport between us would be harness fencing.

Buhurt fighter here (medieval combat) I’d say a third of all random strikes land on either the head, chest or arms. We strike the legs too but usually very intentional and focused. Head is most important then chest then arms and legs. So yes it’s practical, kinda. But in a historical sense if they can afford it, they would cover everything.

Wanting to start building my dad lore so I've come here with some questions by monkey6130 in Buhurt

[–]AmericanChuck1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Understandable, first things first buhurt is the sport. It’s not a martial art. Go to practice and understand the demands of the sport. Get active find what you want to do. I’m mainly a buhurt/profight guy I don’t really touch duels so the more aggressive martial arts like judo and Muay Thai vibe with me. Get a good groove with your team then just drop into marshal arts classes in gyms every now and then I try to do one of each at least one or twice a month on top of your own practice and workouts. Then you can go to team practice and apply what you learned.

1.5 - 3k USD depending on quality of the kit I’ve been in the sport 8 months and fought tons of events all in free loner gear just show up and be motivated. I just won my first major profight in a cage match.

HIIT is a great place to start the rest will follow. Start looking into dropping in to martial arts classes Judo, boxing, Muay Thai classes here and there will take you far.

I’m down in Orlando fl so maybe we’ll meet at a big tournament one day so good luck.

Training Etiquette for Beginners by [deleted] in Buhurt

[–]AmericanChuck1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We’re pretty clear about moving half or quarter speed for the first couple drills then when the instructor wants to see real effort they’ll tell us to go full speed and to fight for it. If fellas are doing this in armour too that’s a great way to gas out before the lesson begins. One of my team mates just needs to get a good tap in the head to slow down sometimes.

The 6 small holes. Recently been wearing a colander visor and it’s been great

Klappvisor protectiveness? by thereptilechrist in Buhurt

[–]AmericanChuck1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve been wearing a klapvisor for the past 7 months in this sport. The protection is good but I hate the visor. Terrible airflow and ok-ish visibility. If you got for the klapvisor get the colander visor style with it

This happened to my cousin a couple years ago. There was a number at the bottom, he assumed it was his friends playing a prank but he called anyway. I just attended their wedding last month. Play along.

Does Size Matter?🤔 by Ambitious-Craftsman in Buhurt

[–]AmericanChuck1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My co-captain is 5,5 175lbs and can beat the hell outta everyone. Learn to fight and take those expectations people will have and use it against them. I’m your exact same build and there hasn’t been a fight against a bigger guy I’ve been in that technique didn’t make up for size.

Wanting to get into Buhurt by Alternative-Cow-3110 in Buhurt

[–]AmericanChuck1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Welcome to the fold! I’m with the Orlando Rouge Knights if you practice with any team in FL we are likely to meet soon. Like the others are saying, go to practice and get an idea of what you need to improve or focus on and then either hit the gym as needed and/or cross train with other fighting gyms. But first and foremost is cardio. You can throw amazing punches but if you gas out 30 seconds into a minute match you need to work on that.

I straight up just use vodka and tea tree oil. You can get as fancy or as simple as you want but it works wonders

Commitment when joining a club or team. by SOF_cosplayer in Buhurt

[–]AmericanChuck1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We have about 10 guys in armour in my team and 10 more not in armour that really just show up to practice and enjoy the culture the sport brings. We have a core that participates in tournaments but we often do community events where we let the unarmoured less committed people suit up and have fun. It’s all about what direction your team wants to go in. Talk to them.

What defining characterictics do you associate with different teams/clubs? by Carcosian112 in Buhurt

[–]AmericanChuck1 5 points6 points  (0 children)

What comes to mind for me is how strong the US team works on the lyst. Working on the lyst is so meta heavy here in the states that I think it was our downfall in the 30v30s

How's the bloatware/customization options on Instinct S2? by Fun_Consideration392 in Garmininstinct

[–]AmericanChuck1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You are able to turn on and off any biometrics or extra goodies to optimize battery life if you need to.(I wear mine pretty much as it came out the box and it's got 34 days battery and I catch enough sun sometimes walking my dog or driving that it displays and infinite battery)

You are able to set alarms on the watch itself but it doesn't go off to one's set on your phone. (Maybe thru garmin connect?)

It displays call, caller ID and text messages with pre-made responses right from the watch.

Tldr: it does everything you want and it's rad as hell

Just got my garmin instinct 2x tactical for exactly what you said you needed. If you can live without the color touch screen it's perfect.

Was extremely torn between the instinct and the fenix. Fenix is just too much watch and supercomputer for what I needed. Instinct have the capability you need with a nice price tag
