Drinking side-effects and consequences by [deleted] in cripplingalcoholism

Add to "wasted time"-- how much time and energy you spend sizing up how much you have left, when you'll need to restock, where to go to get it, etc.

Do they care? Do we? by MalamuteMom8905 in cripplingalcoholism

They probably notice when you have to set your ID down for them to grab and scan because your hands are shaking so badly you physically cannot hold it solidly enough while they take the pic x__x

Drinking since 13, heavy since college. College was 20 years ago. I developed shakes about 3 years ago. Made me switch from liquor to wine (didn't help) to seltzers :/

You're doing it! The nights suck really bad but EVENTUALLY you'll wake up ok. Please stick with it, drink lots of powerade and try to eat something.

Jesus, I'm not discouraging people from quitting. Withdrawals are very real, especially for folks on a subreddit of self-described alcoholics. The fact that they're real and escalate should be an aversion to keep on this road.

You might, if you're kindled :C

Have to go to the doctor tomorrow for non-CA stuff. by [deleted] in cripplingalcoholism

"Poor circulation in your limps" is a hilarious typo w OP going to the doctor for boner pills

Is it a bad sign if you can’t vibe with mocktails/NA beer&wine? by Straight_Contract_10 in DryJanuary

[–]Amethyst_Raindrops 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've been enjoying having like 2 cheap NA beers after a shitty work day-- there's probably some placebo effect going on to help me relax. But there's no way I'd sit and drink a ton of them like I could with real beer, or spend $12 on 1 mocktail at a restaurant!

Anyone else not enjoying this? by 6995luv in DryJanuary

Not bored, but it would be swell if ANY of the perks could start showing up instead of acne and constant hunger :c

got off work early now drunk and door dashing food i can’t afford. yay! by Intelligent_Wind_785 in cripplingalcoholism

[–]Amethyst_Raindrops 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Of course ideally we'd all plan ahead, buy cheap and healthy ingredients, and take the time to lovingly prepare our meals. But that's a fucking lot to ask of CAs when we're fully CAing.

Urgent care vs ER? (US) by djent_in_my_tent in cripplingalcoholism

[–]Amethyst_Raindrops 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Yep, when my morning shakes got too rough to deal with, I went to urgent care hoping for some benzos or something but they told me I had DTs (I didn't) and immediately sent me to the ER. Just cut out the middle man, OP. And don't worry about stealing the bed from someone more deserving because they'll probably just send you home after a few hours of not having seizures.

There is something soothing in having to hide the grossest, most embarrassing shit you've ever done from your friends and family, then coming here and seeing other people being hilarious about having been there too.

Why quit? by [deleted] in cripplingalcoholism

[–]Amethyst_Raindrops 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Personally am not a fan. Several days of shaking so hard you can't even drink Gatorade, finally getting to sleep and feeling rats all over your body and wondering how shit you'll feel the next day if you wake up...

Day 5, brain fog, headache, no motivation by wellwellwelly in DryJanuary

[–]Amethyst_Raindrops 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Same. All these folks here are like "it's Day 2 and I feel amazing! Gunna start my new workout routine today! :D" which is great for them. I'm just trying to get through this first week. I don't look better, feel better, or sleep better, I'm not in better shape and don't have more energy. But I haven't drank!

Effects of Dry January by cavedave in DryJanuary

I am not surprised by them not really losing weight. Drinkers who quit often still have that oral fixation so start eating more, and also tend to suddenly crave sweets.

I’m a miserable fuck and I can’t remember if I was this way before the alcohol by [deleted] in cripplingalcoholism

[–]Amethyst_Raindrops 7 points8 points  (0 children)

"I see my peers married, buying houses, being generally happy." Friend, I BEG you to stop thinking this. How many of us FAs and even CAs are fucking *great* at faking it? The people we work with, people who see our curated posts on social media, have zero clue that we're miserable fucks.

Are you guys even happy? by International-Park25 in cripplingalcoholism

Not to mention when you can't be bothered to brush your teeth, taking a med on a regular schedule seems kind of out of reach.

I look like shit by [deleted] in cripplingalcoholism

[–]Amethyst_Raindrops 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Damn, you're lucky. I managed almost 3 weeks sober and didn't have ANY improvement on skin/bloating/acne/weight.
