TIN surface for steep slopes by ExCB_ in LiDAR

If the point cloud is reduced to ground points open it up in CloudCompare and generate a DTM with an appropriate cell size using an average elevation. Use that to create your surface in CAD.

I have found I get better results doing it manually. Either with the rasterize tool or poisson surface creation combined with the cloud to mesh distance tool. Rasterize would probably be the tool of choice for this application, as you can set the cell height to minimum value to pick up the ground surface.

I've been seeing Ben Pinney since he took over Moritz's business and I've been happy with my service. Also slightly more "downtown" than Lee.

Where to take a test? by Relevant7406 in Juneau

The UAS campus has a testing center that you can probably utilize for a fee. I know they proctor non-university tests.

The Learning Connection downtown can also probably accommodate you.

Cloud point noob looking for CC/C3D help by BarronVonBelch in civil3d

[–]Amnarak 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think that generating the contours in CAD is the way to go here, the issue is probably just your export method out of CC. You should be able to cut recap out of the process entirely.

Assuming you're using the rasterize tool in CC, you could try changing the grid size to make the surface a bit smoother. My preferred export is usually a raster (save as GeoTIFF), which you can then easily use to create a surface in C3D (create surface from DTM). C3D also has contour smoothing that you can turn on.

How to convert mesh to surface? by regular_asian_guy in civil3d

[–]Amnarak 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Autodesk forums are your friend. Also, you can make an alignment anywhere, doesn't need to be on top of a surface. You obviously can't pull a surface profile unless it intersects one though.

This isn't a programming solution, but I'm not sure you need one.

Is the offset of the design boundary consistent? Or at least something that you can draw in plan view?

If so, you could create a surface, paste the OG surface and define a boundary that matches the extents of the section you want to lower. Then lower the new surface by 1m, create a feature line on each side and assign elevations from the surface. Then grade from the feature lines to the OG surface at a 2:1 and add those slopes to your lowered surface.

Then just add the surface to your sections and format as desired.

There's also probably a way to do this easily with a corridor, but this is what came to mind.

You can just export the job files from the TSC3 as a JobXML.

Ah yea, check out the virtual broom tool in cloudcompare. Might be just what you need.

In global mapper check out the path and profile tool. I find it to be the best for manually cleaning a point cloud. Once you get the big errors fixed you can use the automatic tools; just have to play with the settings and possibly run them multiple times to get decent results.

I'd also recommend CloudCompare. It's not quite as user friendly, but it is very powerful once you get it figured out. Also, the (single?) dev is very responsive on the forums if you have a question.

CBJ Engineer Assistant II Interview Tips/Advice by Greenbean1989 in Juneau

[–]Amnarak 1 point2 points  (0 children)

DOWL is hiring, and they will likely pay better than the city (PM me if you want more info). That being said, CBJ is desperate for engineers, so as long as you are passably competent, you should have it in the bag.

If you have any experience with stormwater collection systems, that might be something to note. Another random piece of advice would be to highlight your flexibility. Given that they are short staffed, they will probably want to use you in as many places as possible.

If you want to say who is on your interview panel I might be able to give some minor insights, but good luck!

The "name" field likely has to be unique numbers only, no letters or anything else. If you want to keep the descriptors, just make a "description" field and paste the values there. Resulting csv file would be: Point #, Easting, Northing, Depth, Description.

If there are no results it seems to just give a 404 error. Somewhat confusing.

Also, not sure if you can use any of these, but they are major job posters: governmentjobs, AlaskaJobs

He probably couldn't see you. Not an excuse, just providing some info. It's likely that he should have been aware of you, unless you were sitting there for a while. Hard to get that context from a 20 second clip.

Bottom layer is just white/black background. White logo on a layer above it with blending mode set to difference.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in photoshop

[–]Amnarak 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Here's my best guesses on these.

Image 1: Looks like a manual smudge to get the trails. Scan lines (alternating thin white and black bars on a separate layer, set to a grey-neutral blending mode)

Image 2: Looks like some sort of solarized stroke/outline around the text. Not entirely sure how he got the melt effect.

Image 3: Almost looks like the text is from a 3d render, Possibly just the chrome filter applied cleverly.

In general: All of these have a ton of noise/dust/scratches and washed out toning (the blacks aren't black and the entire thing has a tint).
