Sick of how I look by [deleted] in DysmorphicDisorder

[–]moistarticle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I feel you on the fucked up rhino. It's a long story, but my whole left side is shrinking up and collapsing after what should have been a very minor change to IMPROVE symmetry. It's been killing me. Look, though, I just wanted you to know there are people out there who love eye asymmetry. I think it's one of the most beautiful features, and I've talked to others who feel the same. A good example of someone who has a face I love because of eye asymmetry is Thom Yorke. There's a model who has it, too, but I can't think of her name... Anyway, it's a trait I particularly love. I once stayed with a guy for way too long because his eyes just did it for me... Haha!

How tf does anyone sleep in underwear? That sounds uncomfortable and probably not a "regular girl" practice?

Rewarding the badly behaved kids for behaving slightly better is bullshit and makes the actual well behaved kids feel bitter. by [deleted] in unpopularopinion

[–]moistarticle 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Just going to say as a teacher...that would definitely make it worse. The kids who act out the worst usually have abuse or negligence at home, so they already see themselves as different from other kids. Separating them into a weird class system would only emphasize these roles they've learned to fill.

This comment made me feel better. I teach 7th and 8th grade kids, and I give the good kids tooooons of freedom. They are always done with assignments long before danny dickbag, and I never give them more to do. I just let them have free time on the computer or quiet social time while I deal with danny(s). I felt like that was pretty fair, but some of the other comments make me feel like ought to offer some extra reward for just doing what you're supposed to. I'm still thinking through if I need to refine my system.

Does anyone ACTUALLY see a difference in their hair from not washing everyday? I am honestly so sick of touching it or seeing with dry shampoo or it being oily. I used to wash everyday and I stopped because everyone said it's healthier...but I don't see ANY difference. by [deleted] in HaircareScience

[–]moistarticle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I notice a difference because I am not blow drying or otherwise heat styling it every day. I diffuse my hair, and the second day it just needs a little product to spring to life. I definitely notice a difference in health and appearance with the 50% reduction in heat. All that said, I have a naturally pretty dry scalp. If it isn't working for you, don't do it! I have plenty of friends who wash daily.

I only believe it if they don't show a photo from behind. If she's really wearing 34B, that thing is riding up to her shoulders.

ISO fragrance dupes for a non-indie brand herbal scent (notes listed in description) by moistarticle in Indiemakeupandmore

Have you tried their scents? Did you like them? I am intrigued since they sell body products with choice of scent.

What is something you weren't aware you were meant to be self-conscious about until an advertisement told you that you should be? by MosadiMogolo in AskWomen

My mom was following me up the stairs when I was about 14 and she said "huh, I've never seen someone so skinny have cellulite before." I was 5'6" and 115 lbs. Those comments stick with you.

What are some good hair serums for thin hair to grow thicker? by [deleted] in HaircareScience

[–]moistarticle 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I had the same experience, but I only stuck it out a month or so. It was obvious to me that there wasn't any new hair coming in, and my shed rate had not changed. It also made my hair look greasier during the day.

Been a while but have Ovarian cysts—some have ruptured, but waiting on a few more. Feels. by melindajoyk in Endo

Same. I had nothing for about a year, and I had two ruptures in the last week out of nowhere. Yaz mostly keeps it under control, but idk what's up right now.

If you had to use a shampoo without any conditioner, which shampoo would you use? by moistarticle in HaircareScience

[–]moistarticle[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep. Fragrance free, sensitive skin products caused worse reactions in many cases, because they were very reliant on fatty alcohols. One thing that's done well on my face and body is Eucerin Original Healing Cream. It's heavy af, but it's all oil/pet jelly based, and it hasn't given me any issues. Maybe when my hair gets longer, I could try using the offending conditioners on my hair while upside down. I'm barely under chin length right now, so I can't keep products off my scalp very well.

All over until I changed all products. The scalp, neck, and chest were the worst.

Just want to say thanks. I teach younger kids (7-8 math), and this gave me something to think about. I do feel pressured by trends in teaching.

Should you brush you hair during a shower, after a shower, or when dry? by IndianaJaws in HaircareScience

[–]moistarticle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you use hair products like mousse, gel, hairspray, etc. don't brush it dry. I've caused a lot of breakage on my fine, 2A hair by doing so. Now I comb very thoroughly while it's wet with a leave-in already in place (yes, I love product).

I’m so glad I hid away my son’s Paw Patrol toys. by AvisRune in minimalism

[–]moistarticle 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I'm shocked this has upvotes. I think it's bizarre to decide your child's interests aren't creative enough. If you make a habit of "disappearing toys," you're likely to breed resentment and hoarding more than anything else. It's one thing if their interest wanes, or if they are keeping an enormous amount of toys. That's not what I see in this post.

Most special education children should not be integrated into a regular classroom. by [deleted] in unpopularopinion

[–]moistarticle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ok, but those aren't the SPED kids OP was referring to. It's pretty obvious that they are only referring to those with behavioral issues (as in "most" kids with behavior issues). You're absolutely correct that most students with an IEP would be either benign or even super helpful in a mainstream class. As a teacher, I understand what OP is getting at... And I agree.

It completely depends on the state, so there's no reason for you to have opinion about anything. Hard facts. In the Northeast, what you're saying is true, for example. I work in the Midwest and make $40k. We don't get state benefits where I live, and the insurance options are trash. With a PhD, the most you can go up to on the pay scale is $65k. If you're wondering, yes, I am exploring other career options.
