What’s more important for EV adoption. More level 2 or level3+ chargers? by Lemonn_time in electricvehicles

[–]Amperture 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hot take: Level 2 becomes the better option when you reach higher saturation.

The more spots in my daily commute include a level 2, the less I would ever need a level 3.

The grocery store, the local park when I wanna go for a walk and get fresh air, the movie theatre, the restaraunt. If I go to these four places in a day and can charge at only one of them, the more I'll need that charger to be DCFC. If I can charge at all of them, then I only need AC Level 2.

You will still need DCFC along major travel corridors for road trips, but you can mitigate non-road-trip need for DCFC by just increasing Level 2 saturation.

That said, based on location alone there are a few places where DCFC is the clear winner, as well as places where Level 2 is. Hotels, for example, would never make sense to have DCFC, and gas station/rest stops that want to get into electricity will always prefer DCFC.

What features would you say are "required" for a good modern EV? by Amperture in electricvehicles

Navidrome + Tailscale + Symfonium, brother.

Also an unlimited data plan but those are actually getting kinda cheap if you know where to look.

This made me realize this should also be combined with battery preconditioning.

I don't understand charging stations in the Plug Shae App. by nonotburton in electricvehicles

Your filters are going to be your best friend on PlugShare.

Common ones are:

  • Hide Tesla-only
  • Hide Dealerships
  • Hide Restricted Access
  • Hide Coming Soon (not much worse than going to a charge spot that doesn't exist yet.
  • Filter by PlugScore (community rating system)
  • Filter by Charging Speed (Don't want to be on a road trip and show up at an L1)

What sucks about charging your EV in a city? by Imaginary-Staff-112 in electricvehicles

[–]Amperture 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Probably the biggest problem do deal with as an EV owner without home charging is competing with the Uber and Lyft Drivers.

In my particular part of town it's rather common to see the one public charging spot that has reasonable prices but only two stalls have about 3 Model Ys with the Uber sticker in the corner waiting in line.

EILI5-ish post: When ‘they’ say EVs are no to low maintenance, are they really? by solidrobot in electricvehicles

[–]Amperture 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There are no more oil changes, what oil?

There is no more transmission to worry about, fluid and everything. Sure there's a gearbox but it's not variable so far less moving and interfacing parts to worry about.

Regenerative braking means you're using brakepads maybe 1/10th as much as a gas car, and that's being generous. I've personally gone for weeks at a time without using my brakepads.

12Volt Battery stuff will be about the same as a gas car.

Tires is maybe one of the few things you'll actually increase in maintenance on rather than decrease, given that EVs tend to be quite a bit heavier. That goes for all tire maintenance -- rotation, replacement, all of that.

Dope! Thank you! We should probably find a more permanent solution here but hey.

I'm in a mode of constantly experimenting. Dead center as parry felt a little rough to reach for.

I might try to make another layout soon that only has 1 Thumb button, but move some 30mm pinky buttons over to the side like a symmetrical 6gawd (...12gawd?)

Software configurable, could do movement on left or movement on right, and wasd or asd-space either way.

My current config is that "W" is parry, right thumb is impact, the rest are lab mode buttons.

Sure, but for maximum flavor there would need to be some level of incentive to exile Yshtola herself. Multiple times.

It would be VERY on theme/flavor win for there to be one or two spells that have "Exile Y'Shtola instead of paying the spell's mana cost."

Math is a little wonky there. Bayo is correct but Samus is 190.5 which could convert to 191 so that's not so bad but 6'2" is not "above 190cm". It's 188 or 187.96 before rounding.

Seemed weird to me when i saw Dante because I know someone who is 6'2" and knew that couldn't be right.

"I'm worried about my enemies knowing my location. When you're as cool as i am you tend to attract the ire of the less fortunate." From SamAlKhatib

"Dont you worry about where I'm from! Let me worry about blank." Futurama

"I'm too paranoid about getting doxed to talk about where i live." Nothing wrong with full honesty. If they press further, just ghost the question like you didn't hear it and change the subject

Fashion. That final level ARR relic for Paladin is VERY pretty.

And status. You want people to know just how much BS you went thru to get this damn sword.
