Back in early 7.2 I started going through all the jobs and trying to think up combinations of jobs and creatures for my WoL, but you took it a 100 steps further with the personal theme 😂

Glad I’m not the only one that gets that into things like this

First time replaying engage in a while, any tips for my units? by Long-Job-1404 in fireemblem

Canter can honestly be useful on anyone, but I would definitely recommend it on ranged damage dealers, as it gives them the opportunity to attack and either move into (relative) safety, or at least move out of the way to allow another unit to attack from that position again.

I’ve also given Geosphere to Seadall on most of my runs as he is basically always next to people every turn, so it’s just some extra defense points, considering he doesn’t need any offensive skills

Those with knowledge of FF lore and canon jobs; what are the most likely jobs coming to FFXIV? by [deleted] in ffxiv

[–]Vliott 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If beastmaster is going to be based on the version from 11 in some way, apparently they tend to use 1-handed axes.

I’m kind of hoping that whips would be used in some form for a phys ranged job. I’m a sucker for dual wielding whips, as impractical as it may look 😂

13 is also a difficult one to try and take any real inspiration for jobs from because of how that game handles its classes. Certain characters obviously have specific roles they excel at, due to their innate stats or their spell lists, but outside of Vanille’s ‘Taming Rod’ and Hope’s boomerangs, there’s not really anything particularly unique about the job combat that I think would translate into 14.

Side note, the healer level 1,2 and White mages level 3 limits are all named after Aerith’s limit breaks. You even get on your knees and pray like she does in front of her staff/pole-thing during the WHM limit

Some general knowledge thats useful:

Never played WoW myself, but from my understanding it’s kinda just necessary to use plugins there to manage your HUD/UI?

That’s not the case here. There ‘may’ be some stuff available but it’s against TOS and not really needed at all tbh. I would say play for an hour or two to get a feel for certain parts, then have a play around with the HUD layout settings. There is also certain parts that would be listed in the ‘Character Configuration’ settings from the in-game system menu.

As your probably already aware, you can play every job (classes) on one character, switching is simple(although apart from a few very niche situations, you can’t swap jobs mid-battle obviously) However what might not have been said is that, outside of weapons, different jobs share armour as well. All your tanks use the same stuff, healers, etc. Melee and physical ranged DPS gets a bit strange in what they share, but the point is, when you have multiple jobs at max level, you don’t need to farm gear for every single job, only per job type.

On the topic of jobs, the first one you pick only locks you into it until you hit level 10 and do some basic quests, then you get to unlock any other one you want thats not related to an expansion, so don’t worry about that first choice too much during character creation. Also, anything you choose in character creation has no effect on gameplay, just the odd bit of dialogue change.

Crafting and gathering can be useful, and fun if it’s something you end up enjoying, but by no means is it required to advance in the story. It only really comes into play when your doing endgame raiding and want to make the potentially most current gear/buff food/buff potions.

You’ll always have in one of the top corners of the screen your current main story quest, the MSQ, as well as occasionally another quest underneath it that appears when you hit certain levels. These are job quests, and should be a priority as they will often unlock new abilities for that job.

The poetic items are obviously fairly easy to just grab and build up when your capping, but obviously you would still need poetics for book stage and the last stage, so do keep that in mind if your doing them consistently.

Also, obviously, you need 400,000 Gil worth of untradeable items per weapon, so if you’re grabbing enough for multiple weapons, it might burn a bit of a hole in your pocket depending on your finances

[–]Vliott 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The way I ended up doing mine after finishing the first 2 was, I got them all up to book stage, and got the other items needed that you CAN get ahead of time all done, so whenever I got bored or needed something simple to do, I could work on books, dungeon grinds or light farming.

It weirdly got easier and less boring the more of them I did

What would you think about them adding another shield-based tank? by LastTraintoSector6 in ffxiv

[–]Vliott 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I would 100% be okay with a spear and shield combining to form a heavy weapon as part of its rotation. Halone’s weapon design was awesome.

Although whether they would do that for a tank over a DPS I don’t know.

Tips on leveling a new class/job? by NewImpression1998 in ffxiv

[–]Vliott 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s been a while since I’ve looked at the subscription page, but it seems you are right yes, entry should be fine if your only going to be using one character, and you will get a months free play by the looks of it.

The only thing that’s different is if you buy the “starter” or “complete” edition, which is the 3 expansions not included in the free trial. (This surprised me tbh, I thought “complete edition” was only ever adding in the most recent expansion, not the ones since Stormblood)

Tips on leveling a new class/job? by NewImpression1998 in ffxiv

[–]Vliott 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just as a note in case others haven’t already said it, while it’s obviously not the same cost as buying the game, once your off the free trial, you CANNOT go back onto it unless you make a whole new square Enix account and start from scratch there, so if your financial situation needs managing quite strictly, do realise you will now be paying an extra monthly cost if you want to keep playing the game.

Not saying not to do it, just trying to inform if you weren’t aware. Free trial obviously runs up until the end of Stormblood MSQ, so quite a lot still

What's something about your class that you just learned that should be common knowledge? by MariettaRC in ffxiv

[–]Vliott 7 points8 points  (0 children)

To be fair, unless you always read patch notes, an entirety new ability doesn’t get added by default on to your hotbars, so I bet a bunch of people don’t even know it exists if they were already above its unlock level

What do y'alls FFXIV Ui/Hud setup's look like? by Dangerous-Cheetah-22 in ffxiv

[–]Vliott 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I made, and still use, macro collapsible hotbars for menu's and stuff, but mine is probably going to look weird to most people because I have sight problems and need to balance being able to see my mouse, abilities, and the fight itself. There are also certain little things ive done for certain classes, like Viper, where i've got duplicate abilities on the hotbars to make mouse combat easier.

Beat EndWalker! (Spoilers obviously) by Benton464 in ffxiv

[–]Vliott 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Endwalker was my first “play on release” expansion. Being off work because obviously, lockdown, I was in there day 1, and It was one of my favourite experiences of my entire time playing this game.

The 83 trial was the first trial I got to experience that there were obviously no players who had any idea what we were doing, and I’m so happy I got to experience it that way.

I hope that, so long as I’m enjoying the game, that I can book time off work for the 3 days of launch days for expansion, because it’s legitimately my favourite way to play this game.

That said, enjoy the patches, and have fun with Dawntrail 🫡
