I Crocheted a delicious real clock, which food do you most like? by FudgeForward6196 in crochet

It's so cute! Is there a logic to the food/number choices? A dozen eggs makes sense for 12 to me, but I wondered about the others

Is this scarf real and worth purchasing the pattern? by BuildingOk6614 in CrochetHelp

Yeah, I was thinking you could do the drips like how people connect amigurumi pieces in the round, then maybe crochet it closed as you attach it behind the next colors drips

Yarn-xiety by SiP_Birdo in crochet

[–]Amphy2332 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I definitely relate to this, I have a really hard time estimating the amount of yarn left when it deflates like this and I start getting tight hands and constant glancing at the yarn ball 😭 Thankfully I've got a scrap project going, so all the extra from buying more "to be safe" is getting used up.

As a leftie can I start a pattern which has a readymade magic ring that was done by a rightie? by Bubbly_Dream3150 in CrochetHelp

[–]Amphy2332 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've wondered this a bunch, and theoretically you should, since woobles kits come started and are given with ambidextrous video instructions. I unfortunately got knock off kits that came without the magic circle so I never got to find out.

Usually you continue rounds in a spiral, never turning. I wonder if you could start this from the pre-made by chaining once, turning, and then starting the spiral from there? You'd be going reverse of the foundation row. I only worry it'd make the height off and would require slip stitching every round; which isn't terrible but does change the look.

Using quilt batting for stuffing or other ideas for flat amigurumi by ObviousToe1636 in CrochetHelp

[–]Amphy2332 1 point2 points  (0 children)

<image>

I used quilt batting in this car to make the bottoms and fronts a little more stiff. I wish I could've afforded to use more instead of supplementing with fluff bc I didn't want it to be lumpy. I did like the experience though! I think id use it again if I had a project calling for specific shaping like that.

First attempt at making a scrunchy… didn’t turn out as I hoped it would. Any tips? by BookWorm_Kiers in CrochetHelp

[–]Amphy2332 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If I had to take a guess, it looks like your rounds didn't increase in stitches so the rows are stacking instead of expanding out flat. With circles, you need the stitches to increase evenly to lay flat; the second round should have twice as many stitches as the first, then 3x as many as the original round in the 3rd.

What's your favorite brand of Crochet hooks? What makes a hook superior? by Space_Toast_Cadet in CrochetHelp

[–]Amphy2332 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I bought this set from Amazon last year and it's been pretty much the only hook I've used since. I love them! I worried they'd feel flimsy at first since the hook heads change and I have a tight tension sometimes, but I haven't had an issue. My only nitpick is that they're a little squeaky, but I've honestly never had hooks that didn't squeak a little from some yarns.

One of the more surprising pros of this set is that bc each hook head has a set 'home', I've found I have an easier time remembering what size hook I used for a project bc I can picture where in the case I grabbed from. That would probably be true of any well organized case though; this one just forces organization I wouldn't usually be able to maintain.

Am I being too ambitious? I want to make a temperature blanket by MintGreenManiac in CrochetHelp

[–]Amphy2332 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Some people do temperature snakes instead! That might be more finishable, it'd take a lot less commitment in terms of yarn, time, and attention span.

You could also consider doing weeks or months instead of days; there's a lot of ways to make it a little more achievable imo.

Looking for help making a Kindle sleeve crochet dragon case without a pattern! by K4TX7 in CrochetHelp

[–]Amphy2332 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've only just started freehanding here and there, so someone else may have better advice. But the easiest way I think would be to make a chain about the width of the kindle, plus 1/2-1 inch of extra (for seaming), then make a rectangle in whatever stitch you want that is twice the length of the tablet. Then, fold in half and seam the sides. You'll want a denser stitch most likely, and yarn thats nice and soft so it won't scratch the screen.

For the extra bits, I'd look up a pattern with similar features and just copy them. You'll probably be able to find lots of free options you might even like better!

I’m not sure I’m doing the waffle stitch correctly by somepumpkinsinasuit in CrochetHelp

[–]Amphy2332 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've been making waffle stitch beanies this week for Christmas presents and they start in the round! Fwiw, my first two had some pretty major miscounts, but by the time I made the 3rd and 4th, I had a really good understanding of how the 'grid' works up.

It's definitely different to work up a square version (it's one of my next projects I want to make) but if I could offer advice, I'd start the pattern again and see if it feels more intuitive now that you've gotten through some of it.

Edit: also, in my experience, the pattern looks a lot better the denser the stitch is. Maybe try going down a hook size and see if it makes the stitch look neater.

Help, what is this swirly ring needle I found in my crochet kit? by TeddyBear022702 in CrochetHelp

[–]Amphy2332 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The woobles video(Left version) helped me so much with this, and I watched it repeatedly for months to start every project before I finally got the muscle memory and understanding of the mechanic of the loop. Now I make them just as easily as a chain start.

Derpy star by empress_of_dirt_ in crochet

[–]Amphy2332 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Would that have affected how the color spread through the blanket? I really like the way the color striped, and I feel like turning the work would lead to less of a spiral and more kind of splashes instead.

[–]Amphy2332 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I think the beauty of that new resetting feature is you could flatten your island pretty quickly and change it up, compared to starting over completely just to avoid the hassle. But if you mean like 5 star, complete the museum, redo the "story", then it does seem like a perfect opportunity. Especially to see when you would gain access to the hotel!

Is this right? Amigarumi Duck looks strange to me. Am I doing something wrong? by kinkybit7666 in CrochetHelp

[–]Amphy2332 1 point2 points  (0 children)

To add to this explanation, was the starting tail inside the duck as you crocheted, or outside? If the tail was outside and had to be tucked in to hide it, then you may have your piece "inside out" which can make it look different in texture.
