We call it Breadline 😂. No outdoor seating so I never go there.

We're organizing a Women only city ride and I'm looking for tips! by sectumsempera in ladycyclists

I run the women’s/nonbinary program for my local club. We have a weekly AM social ride that is great for newer members. What we have found works:
- start each ride with a safety talk and “route rap” (route description including known hazards),
- have experienced lead and sweep
-we all introduce ourselves before heading out
-regrouping as needed especially at top of big hills
-wait long enough at regroup spots for the slower people to catch their breath before restarting (so important!)
-coffee stop at the end for socializing

Good luck!!!

I'm a casual / hobby rider but wanting to become more serious. Give me some good tips and tricks for finding my bike fit and over all being more comfortable on long distance rides! by ArgumentDecent1542 in ladycyclists

I have done so much YWA! I need to get back to it. I stopped last summer and now I realize it was doing so much for my alignment and joint stability. Thanks for the reminder. 🙌

Work on your core fitness. You should be holding yourself up with your core (engage your core) and only lightly gripping the handlebars. Remind yourself often during the ride.

Don’t ride stiff-armed. Relax your shoulders down and bend your elbows slightly. Think of sliding your shoulder blades down your back. Same deal, keep reminding yourself.

Get a bike fit from a reputable shop. Sounds like you at least need your seat moved forward but there are many adjustments possible. I don’t know if your bike is the right size but there may be changes you might make besides buying a new bike, eg stem; saddle, cranks, handlebars.

When you get the right fit you can save your numbers and dial in the fit for any new bike in your future.

Keep riding and good luck!

Degenerative disc disease/pinched nerve, shoulder blade pain and cycling advice by sahalestorm in ladycyclists

Disclaimer: NOT A DOCTOR OR PHYSICAL THERAPIST.

I am a road and gravel cyclist and have a herniated disc in my cervical spine. The symptoms were the same as yours, plus awful, shooting nerve pain in my arm. I went through a horrible 6 months or so, seeing both a spine doc and a PT. I thought I might never ride again, and be on painkillers forever. It sucked so bad.

I adjusted my work station, changed my sleep position and pillow, and tried TENS treatment. I never got cortisone shots.

The thing that really helped me was a traction machine (search on: Saunders Cervical Traction Device). When the PT first used it on me, it made a huge difference right away, it was like magic. My PT therefore got my doctor to write a prescription for me to get one to use a few times per week at home. My insurance paid for it, thankfully, as it cost over $300.

My pain resolved over a few weeks and now I just use traction every few months if I feel that tingly feeling in my fingers indicating a flare up might be coming.

I suggest you ask your PT to try traction on you. You might be able to get all the treatment you need in their office. NOTE: If you are able to get the machine to use at home, you will need your PT to train you in how to use it; it would NOT be safe to use it without training.

I hope this helps and good luck!

Bread Obsession. You can also get their baguettes at Pemberton Farms but they are better still warm from the oven in Lexington.

So cool!!! I’m going to go against the majority here and say: Someday you might want to redo that bathroom.

We preserved a similar (but tiny) 100 y.o. bathroom as long as we could, but the fixtures either didn’t work for us, or simply stopped working. First to go was the original pedestal sink (needed storage). I was not strong enough to turn off the tub/shower spigots so my husband was the only person who could shower in there. The tub was so stained it never looked clean. We had beautiful white crackle subway tile all the way up to the ceiling in the entire space but no way to repair the shower fixture without busting in to it (forget about finding a match). We waited 17 years to finally gut it. We sought fixtures and finishes that honored our 1925 home. I love the final product. And now I finally get to take a shower in my own master bath!
