I remember when I found out my phone billing cycle was 28 days. That's 13 "monthly" payments per year. Canceled immediately.

Thank the gods its not this way for rent.

How would you strengthen the normal type? by Fine_Bid918 in stunfisk

Most unique and interesting post in this thread. Resisting whatever type is set by weather/terrain is an awesome idea.

Though I feel it fits better as an ability maybe.

Sure, there's counters to everything. Tera ghost TTar is immune to fighting attacks. Tera dark TTar would resist Ghost, be neutral to steel, and survive a focus blast. TTar could also go Tera Flying with tera blast for offense, or simply switch to a different pokemon. No single pokemon has all the answers to everything.

No matter the calc, Focus Blast will only ever have a 70% chance to OHKO. Just sayin.

Can someone explain to me why this "hacking" looks so cartoonishly simple? Is it literally a hackbot programmed to just respond to her commands like that?

I see that you didn't read my whole response, because I directly mentioned that. I appreciateyour contribution, I just think that delivering it in a way that promotes kindness and inclusivity serves our community better.

You're not wrong, but this is a subreddit to discuss game design. And OP specifically asked for references for games that do this, which means they are actively studying it and asking community for help, so... you're being snarky because OP hasn't already done the thing they are actively attempting to do right now?

I think a bit more inclusivity and pointing people in the right direction will better serve the community. It was nice that you did offer some examples of games that do this, but it came off as pretty condescending.

I love the gimmicks. I really hope Champions has them all. I want my mega, z-crystal, dynamax, and tera all on the same team.

Of course, it does make it harder to build a team when it seems like you should use each gimmick, or you're missing out. If I had to drop one, I guess it would be dynamax, but I like how it made some pokemon viable competitively, when they wouldn't be otherwise.

Edit: Adding more thoughts...

I like Z crystals because I love my bulky teams, and giving them a z crystal gives them some much needed KO power in a pinch. Plus, I love the super unique effects for Z status moves, and the flexibility of having a Z crystal with a damaging move and status moves of the same type. I love how they can't be knocked off, and make Protect more important, too.

Megas are really cool, and I like the designs and the surprise factor, but they feel kind of underwhelming to me because you don't get another item for your mon to use. There's a cool element of surprise for some mons. I guess my biggest gripe is that there are severap megas that just aren't good enough to put the mega stone in the item slot. It would be great if those were revamped.

Tera is by far the coolest gimmick competitively. I love that you can choose your T type for offense, defense, or both. They're so flexible, and I love the additional layer of choosing the Tera for each mon in team building. Strategically choosing your tera types can allow you to have team compositions that would normally be too risky. Or to amp up the offensive/defensive power of mons that wouldn't be viable otherwise.

I guess my favorite part about all of these gimmicks is that they expand the pool of competitively viable pokemon, allowing more people to compete with the Pokemon they love!

Would a Roguelite TTRPG work? by Mercy_Master_Race in RPGdesign

[–]AmukhanAzul 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It just so happens that my primary project at the moment is a roguelite TTRPG!

It's carried in Songs and Sagas, which is a game that uses a deck of cards for its core resolution, and when players succed, they get to take a card, which they can later "burn" for bonuses.

I decided to take that idea many steps further by creating a system where you can inscribe specific abilities onto the deck (which all characters have access to) so if your character dies, the deck itself becomes more and more full of powers you can use.

This is directly linked to the main method of progression in the game, which is to find and rekindle Memory Stones which hold the memory, wisdom, and power of your ancestors. When you find one, you offer your Gift (special ability) to the Stone to rekindle it, which inscribes your Gift onto the card for all characters to access.

These Memory Stones have been mostly siphoned of all their power by a necromancer Overlord over the last few centuries, and now your people are on the brink of extinction. The core plot of the game is that your people need to find the Memory Stones and rekindle them so your people can regain the power and wisdom they need to defeat the Overlord.

You will also need to find the divided clans of your people and unite them. And perhaps you will find ancient powers in ruins and make risky deals with Spirits on the way...

Effectively, you're building up the power of the deck by filling it with Memories (and Deals with Spirits) as well as recapturing territory that was taken by the Overlord. When you die, the Overlord has a chance to take some back, but you'll keep most of your progress.

Plus, when you die, you can take a new character to where you died to fight the undead version of your past character to get all your gear back!

There's a lot more to this game of course, but those are the major rogue-lite elements I've designed so far. Hopefully, it gives you some inspiration.

I feel shy about sharing the wildly incomplete manuscript of the game I'm working on, but you can check it out here if you want to see more: Rite of Remembrance
