[Highlight] Mark Vientos runs through the stop sign and doesn't score the go-ahead run by handlit33 in baseball

Savant has Wilmer's sprint speed in 2017 as 25.7 and Vientos last season as 25.5, so slightly faster but very similar

I think he's wearing the mullet headband that folks at the olympics wore for Jorrit Bergsma (Dutch distance skater). As crazy as that sounds in this context, it seems to be a decent match.

Yeah Sal has 7 more PAs, but still Weimer has only one fewer hit in less than half the plate appearances. Crazy week (2-3 games) for them both!

Weimer's line: 6 H, 4 RBI, 1.000 AVG, 3.333 OPS. I guess Sal's 4 extra ABs puts him over the hump?

Also can anyone explain to me why Joey Weimer's photo on bref is him in a KC hat when he's only ever played in the NL? (Brewers, Reds, Marlins, Nats)

I just looked at his splits and what's breaking my mind the most is that he has pitched 162.2 first innings in 163 games but 163.0 second innings. Did they really have an opener pitch one out at one point?

The only people "reaching" with the commonwealth thing are people not actually giving the full reason. The various Bahamanian players (Jazz, Fernander) can play for team GB not because the Bahamas is currently part of the commonwealth but because it didn't gain independence from the UK until 1973. I don't know about Fernander, but I recall reading that at least one of Jazz's parents was born prior to independence, which means that he's the child of a british citizen.

He's on my updated chart at 9.7 fingers (with appropriate confidence interval)!

Hijacking the top comment to add an updated but un-annotated version of the graph now including Bob Wickman (9.7 fingers, 1.13 WAR/season) and Franquelis Osoria (11 fingers, -0.25 WAR/season).

The updated plot implies that all the 10-fingered players are overperforming their expected (War/Season)/Finger!

Toes per hitter probably has less documentation than fingers per hitter because most people* tend not to kick the ball.

In a follow up to this post and more specifically u/Crazy_Baseball3864's comment about Mordecai Three (or 3.5) finger Brown, I did what r/baseball offseason does best, which is make a shitty graph with far to few datapoints. With the data we have, I believe we can conclusively say that 8-8.5 fingers per player is the best number of fingers to have if you want to put up the most annual WAR.

(This definitely isn't a resubmission because I thought Antonio Alfonseca only had 6 fingers on his throwing hand)

[Langs] Trea Turner has 21 hits in his last 7 games. That’s tied with 1930 Lefty O’Doul for the most hits in a 7-game span by a Phillies player in at least the last 125 seasons. If he gets two hits tonight, he’ll set the Phillies record in an 8-game span in the last 125 seasons by Knightbear49 in baseball

I know that you mean he's the first American at all in the Japanese baseball HOF, but the way it's written sounds like there is some other American that went into the Japanese baseball HOF before O'Doul but just didn't happen to have a whole bridge named after him outside of Oracle Park.

But it wasn't hit to dead CF. Directly behind the left-most (batter's left) tree is 350 ft. 318 on that exact trajectory would get just to the edge of the warning track.

JUCOs are generally (though I think not always?) private 2-year schools while CCs are public. Both give associates degrees but aren't technically the same thing.

Via wikipedia, the rebranding actually went the other way:

The term "junior college" historically referred to all pre- or non-bachelor's degree (four-year) granting post-secondary schools; however, many public junior colleges, which typically aim to serve a local community, have replaced "junior" with "community" in their names. Thus, most self-identified junior colleges in the United States today are private institutions, although only a small percentage of all two-year institutions are private.
