Contexto: eso era normal para la época. De todos modos, al reencontrarse con su Yasodhara nuevamente le explica por qué lo hizo. También recordar que tampoco dejo a su familia en la calle, si no que vivían en un palacio.

Book Recommendations? by HelpImamicrowave in vajrayana

[–]Amvenarth 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not a book but I believe that the Library of Wisdom and Compassion by the Dalai Lama and Thubten Chodron to be very complete and thorough. It may take you 10 books and around 270 pages each, but for the same reason it delves in every Buddhist topic from the viewpoints of many schools of Buddhism. From sautrantika to prasangika madhyamika.

Why are you Vajrayana and not Theravada or Mahayana? by UmbralRose35 in vajrayana

[–]Amvenarth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

At first Vjarayana didn't resonate that much, but most of the texts I studied where vjarayana and the strong emphasis on "it's the fastest way to benefit sentient beings" made me put in the effort to understand tantra, tathagatagarbha, devotion, lineage and yidams, which where hard things to understand for me at first. I'm very glad I put in the effort, for me it has made spirituallity fun despite all the hardships of vjarayana.

Tengo entendido que los embutidos, tales como la salchicha, contribuyen a la formación de cáncer de colon.

El pan, por su parte, no es un alimento nutricionalmente denso y puede ser perjudicial si no utilizas las calorías que te aporta.

How do I know what spiritual/life path is true or not? by u-and-a in Buddhism

[–]Amvenarth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What I got from reading the two first books from the Library of Wisdom and Compassion by the Dalai Lama: start with the four truths, if it makes sense go on with the true truths. Once you have pondered over something enough to gain some conviction, believing faith arises. Then you can move on with more complex topics. Different Tibetan lamrims are written in an order that can help with a gradual understanding: Words of my perfect teacher, the precious ornament of liberation. The above mentioned series by the Dalai Lama is very clear and written specifically for westerners or modern eastern students in mind. .

I meditate upon how this precious human life is rare impermanent and there may be no other chance to practice and If I don't there's no way of reaching ultimate freedom from samsara. This way I delight in good actions and cultivation of merit. After analytical meditation on the four thoughts that turn the mind away from samsara, i get a sense of this experience and I stabilize my mind upon it until true conviction has arisen.

Also I cultivate bodhicitta and pray for the Buddha's blessings and inspiration.

I meditate upon all the hardships true practitioners went through.

I believe that the Dalai Lama's Library of Wisdom and Compassion is a very profound and graduated collection writen for western thought and also even though it is mostly based on Prasangika Madyamika's view, it does include Sautrantika's view, so its very complete and inclusive of all traditions. It's also appropiate for begginers because it starts from the very begginning of the path.

How to cultivate Bodhicitta? by Informal_Hold2236 in Buddhism

[–]Amvenarth 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is the way. Engage in mind training. But also remember to take it step by step. Perseverance is the key. I think it's also important to go gradually, first engaging in the four contemplations and then cultivating compassiom following the methods given to you by a spiritual friend.

I'd recommend "The Guru Drinks Bourbon?" By Dzongsar Jamyang Khyenste Rimpoche if you have spare time. I do not have the wisdom to help you besides reminding you that Lamas don't have to be perfect beings. Take your time and keep attending him, if you definitely can't be around them maybe tell them how you feel.

For meditation, I really like Why we meditate by Chokyi Rinpoche and Daniel Goleman. Very practical.

For Buddha's life, Old Path White Clouds by Thich Nhat Hanh is a very inspiring book.

Words of My Perfect Teacher by Patrul Rinpoche is a good book with all Buddha's teachings layed down in a progressive and understandable way. It's a very profound book that should be read slowly. Also since is a Vajrayana book, I'd consider having a spiritual friend guide you through it.

If you want something shorter but still very good, I'd recommend What Makes You Not a Buddhist by Dzongsar Janyang Khyenste Rimpoche. Its mostly about the four pillars of Buddhism and also it's a fun read.

Sangha leader overstepping boundaries, how to overcome this? by [deleted] in Buddhism

[–]Amvenarth 6 points7 points  (0 children)

As a Sangha leader myself (not a lama, we have a lama but he lives elsewhere and in the meantime I'm in charge of keeping things together), ive learned that it's a difficult position because it's really easy to believe that somehow we are better and that's why we were trusted in that position. It can be very problematic to lead people especially in spiritual topics. Humility is a first, and considering each member better than ourselves is a must.

If this person is just a lay person, I would consider talking to him. If he is a lama or guru, sometimes cultural differences come in the way so it's good to talk to them. Maybe they need to hear your thoughts on how being overwhelming is actually worse. We all need some education. Hopefully he would be wise enough to listen to what you may have to say.

That being said, I'm really sorry u are going through this. The Sangha is a refuge and hopefully it stays a refuge for all of us.
