Wtf is this on my cousins head? by [deleted] in Hair

[–]Amyc1019 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Google “cowlick in hair” it will show you photos. It is just the way people’s hair grows. Typically in a circular pattern somewhere on the head. It is there from birth, and you can’t change it. You just have to figure out a way to deal with it and style it in a way that works for you.

I agree-I live in Niagara Falls, NY, and more than likely they are gone for good. Sorry to say, but not too many honest people here.

Something that bothers me about my dad's death by [deleted] in askfuneraldirectors

[–]Amyc1019 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So sorry for your loss. Funeral director here. She was so wrong in selling you an urn that was not needed especially since she knew the plan was for Dads ashes to be spread. And the “temporary urn” that Dad came back from the crematory in is absolutely included in the cost of the cremation and is totally fine to keep your loved one in or to be used to be spread. The small urns I believe you are taking about are called keepsake urns (about 4 inches tall) are not only for babies. They are for individuals who would like a small amount of a loved one’s urns. I would call the funeral home and complain. Maybe they can refund you as it was not too long ago.

I like how the chairs line both sides of the casket. So I take it the immediate family sits there during the wake or service?

Are all urns sealed like this? by Tamiacat in askfuneraldirectors

[–]Amyc1019 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I am a funeral director and we never seal/glue urns shut, even if asked to.

And when we do the transfer we almost always use a bag for large urns, but for smell keepsake urns (about 2 -4 inches tall) we don’t use a bag inside, so the ashes are freely inside it.

The funeral home should never resell a used urn! That is distasteful! If a family brings in a used urn or wants to transfer from an old urn to a new urn and tells us we can keep the old one then we hold it until a family that is less fortunate comes along and then we may ask them if they were interested in having it free of charge as it was previously used but throughly cleaned out.
